The leading French multihull design firm of Van Peteghem / Lauriot Prévost (VPLP) are working with BMW ORACLE Racing’s design team in developing its new mulithull boat for the America’s Cup Deed of Gift match, the team confirmed today. Firm principals Vincent Lauriot Prévost and Marc Van Peteghem are integrated with the BMW ORACLE Racing core design team for the project. VPLP are the lead designers in conjunction with the BMW ORACLE Racing team, led by design coordinator Mike Drummond. BMW ORACLE Racing’s Michel Kermarec heads up the performance prediction and appendage design. “We are enjoying working with and learning from the vast experience of VPLP in multihulls,” Drummond said. “The French multihull community, in general, are leaders in these yachts and we are benefiting greatly. When we first looked at a multihull in the event of a Deed of Gift challenge, we were impressed with the record of the Groupama series of racing multihulls. Franck Cammas and VPLP designed yachts have been breaking speed records and leading this field, so VPLP was the natural choice.” Vincent Lauriot Prévost affirmed, “We are delighted to have been chosen by BMW ORACLE Racing to design the new multihull for the 33rd America’s Cup. The America’s Cup 2007: The Nexus of Media, Sport and Big Business A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts in Mass Communication Jared Peter Grellet ___________________________________________________ University of Canterbury 2009 ABSTRACT Over the past twenty years, the America’s Cup has grown into a significant media event in the New Zealand public sphere. This thesis focused on the New Zealand print media coverage of the 2007 regatta in Spain, analysing how different newspapers framed their coverage of the event, before interviewing the journalists who provided the stories to understand the constraints under which they worked. The analysis recorded and coded all stories relating to the America’s Cup in four of New Zealand’s daily metropolitan newspapers between April 2, 2007 and July 15, 2007. This thesis found that although the America’s Cup had shifted from between a competition between nations as the role of big-business increased, the New Zealand print media continued to focus on Emirates Team New Zealand, even though a significant number of New Zealanders were competing for foreign-based entries. The role of big businesses, including the New Zealand Government, went largely unreported in the New Zealand print media. Interviews with the journalists would suggest that their main role in Valencia was to report the racing, with limited time outside of this to report on other aspects of the event. 1. Charlie Crist’s signature. Marine industry executives and organizations are opti- mistic about it becoming law. Crist, who’s voiced past sup- port, has until June 1 to approve the bill. If so, it then becomes effective on July 1. The boating provision is one of 34 measures in the Jobs for Florida Bill (CS/SB-1752). The marine portion keeps the sales and use tax at 6 percent but places a first-ever cap of $18,000 on boat buys — regardless of size and price tag. America`s Cupper "Alinghi" Strahlende Siegerin Baubericht von Heinz Schmalenstroth Zurückblickend auf den Bau und die Segelerfahrungen meines ersten Cuppers FRA-46 (MODELLWERFT 10 und 11/2002), ein Modell des französischen Herausforderers "Le Defi" und hinsichtlich der schon laufenden Vorbereitungen auf den America´s Cup 2003 in Neuseeland, regte sich der Wunsch nach einem Modell der aktuellsten IACC-Yachtgeneration. Aber welches Boot sollte es werden? Diese Fragen stellte ich mir im Frühsommer 2002 als ich die ersten Berichte zum "Louis Vuitton Cup", den Ausscheidungsrennen zum America's Cup 2003, im Internet verfolgte. Zuerst tendierte ich zum Siegerboot vom "Team New Zealand", dem Cup Verteidiger. Aber ich bekam hierüber wenig Informationen. Schließlich nahm ich alle Herausforderer unter die Lupe, dabei fiel mir besonders der als Top Favorit gehandelte Schweizer Herausforderer "Alinghi Challenge" auf. "Alinghi- Challenge" war ein europäischer Herausforderer, der zu den Mitfavoriten zählte, Jochen Schümann war als einer der besten deutschen Segler mit im Boot und das Outfit der "Alinghi" mit dem roten Logo gefiel mir ausgesprochen gut. Zudem fielen die entscheidenden Rennen um den Cup zufällig auf den geplanten Fertigstellungstermin meines Modells. Sollte die "Alinghi" gewinnen, was damals überhaupt noch nicht vorstellbar erschien, dann könnte ich einen echten Treffer landen und mein Modell wäre brandaktuell. Die IACC Yachten Auf Betreiben der Konstrukteure und um zu gewährleisten daß alle Herausforderer mit den gleichen "Waffen" kämpfen, wurde der veraltete Zwölfer ab 1992 durch einen neuen, modernen Bootstyp abgelöst, die International America's Cup Class. Die Boote dieser Klasse folgen einer engen Formel, in der die Länge, die Segelfläche und die Verdrängung eingehen. -

SHIPWATCHER NEWS SPECIAL EDITION PRESENTATION TH 36 AMERICA’S CUP PRELIMINARY RACES & PRADA CUP AUCKLAND 2021 SHIPWATCHER NEWS 36TH AMERICA’S CUP – AUCKLAND 2021 THE AMERICA’S CUP The first America’s Cup race was held in 1851, when the yacht America, representing the New York Yacht Club, defeated the Royal Yacht Squadron in the race around the Isle of Wight in Great Britain for the 100 Pound Cup. The syndicate that owned America gave the trophy to the New York Yacht Club, with the famous “Deed of the Gift”, outlining the competition we now know as the America’s Cup. The America’s Cup is still the oldest international competition in the World. The first challenge for the cup from English yachtsman James Ashbury in 1871, racing against the entire fleet of the New York Yacht Club. This led to great dispute about whether or not the methods of competition were fair. All competitions following would be match races. Following challenges were sporadic, and the competitors constructed innovative vessels to defend or attempt to win the Cup. No challenger was ever successful, and the Cup remained in the hands of the New York Yacht Club. Sir Thomas Lipton of Ireland made his first challenge in 1899, followed by four more unsuccessful trials between then and 1930. During Lipton’s final challenge, the J-Class yacht rules were introduced for the Cup. After World War II, the expensive J-Class boats lost their popularity, and Cup officials adopted the 12-Metre rule beginning with the 1958 Cup. New York Yacht Club would keep its grasp on the Cup, but not for much longer.
