GEORGIA ENGEL TO STAR IN GERSHWIN'S "TIP-TOES" AT BAM

George and 's 1925 musical comedy TIP-TOES, starring Georgia Engel, will be presented in BAM's Helen Carey Playhouse, March 21 through April 8, in the Goodspeed House production .

TIP-TOES features music by , lyrics by Ira Gershwin, • and a book by and . The production will be di­ rected by Sue Lawless with choreography and musical staging by Dan Siretta. Costumes are by David Toser, lighting by Peter M. Ehrhardt, and musical direction by William R. Cox.

Georgia Engel, best known for her role as Georgette on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show, " stars in the role of Tip-Toes Kaye, a hoofer determined to catch the man of her dreams, played by Russ Thacker. The cast features Bob Gunton, Jana Robbins, Haskell Gordon, Michael Hirsch, and Ronn Robinson.

The Goodspeed Opera House is the only theater in America dedicated to the preservation of the heritage of the American musical. Past Goodspeed productions seen in New York include MAN OF LA MANCHA and SHENANDOAH. On Broadway, Goodspeed is currently represented by ANNIE and WHOOPEE.

Mrs. Joan Mondale will attend a special benefit performance of the Geo­ rge and Ira Gershwin musical TIP-TOES, starring Georgia Engel, on Friday evening, March 23, at 8pm. The evening, which Mrs. Mondale is co-chairing wiht Governor Hugh Carey, is a special benefit for Eubie Blake. All proceeds from the performance will go towards BAM's future programming as per Mr. • Blake's request. Following the performance there will be a dinner dance in BAM's Lepercq Space featuring the Peter Duchin Trio. Members of the TIP-TOES cast including Georgia Engel and Russ Thacker will join Mrs. Mondale and members of the benefit audience afterwards. Also expected to attend are: Arthur Sulzberger (New York Times), Rupert Murdoch (New York Post), Mr. and Mrs. Ben Sommers of Capezio, John Currier, president of the Arrow Company, Leonard Lauder of Estee Lauder, Paul P. Woodward, president of Revlon, and Herman Badillo.
