Overtime wins and losses appear in both the W and L columns, as well as the OTW and OTL columns in a team’s conference record. Shootouts will only occur if a conference game remains tied after the lone overtime, which is now 3-on-3, with the shootout winner earning two points and the loser getting one point, the same as an overtime win and loss. THIS WEEK’S GAMES NCHC NEWS & NOTES Thursday, Feb. 25 DOWN THE HOME STRETCH: Only two weekends remain in the regular *Denver 5, at Colorado College 1 season with six teams having only two games left, while Colorado College and Denver have an extra series to make up next weekend. All remaining Friday, Feb. 26 games are against a team’s rivalry/travel partner, with CC and DU, as well *Miami at Western Michigan, 6:05 p.m. ET and Miami and Western Michigan, playing home-and-home series this *No. 2/1 North Dakota at No. 11/12 Omaha, 7:07 p.m. CT weekend, while North Dakota and Omaha, along with Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State, are splitting up their final home-and-home series over Saturday, Feb. 27 two weekends. *No. 6/6 St. Cloud State at No. 10/10 Minnesota Duluth, 7:07 p.m. CT TV: CBS Sports Network PENROSE CUP DOUBLE UP: North Dakota secured its second straight *Colorado College at Denver, 7:07 p.m. MT Penrose Cup with a 7-1 win over Omaha last Saturday, after also winning the title in 2019-20. UND earned its fourth NCHC regular-season Sunday, Feb. 28 championship overall, the most of any NCHC team (St. Cloud State has *Western Michigan at Miami, 2:05 p.m. ET (TV: CBS Sports Network) three). This is North Dakota’s second time winning the Penrose Cup back- to-back, also winning in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Along with SCSU’s three AST EEK S ESULTS Penrose Cups, Denver is the only other NCHC team to win the regular- L W ’ R season title (2016-17). The Preseason Media Poll was correct in predicting Thursday, Feb. 18 UND to repeat, as the Fighting Hawks received 27 of 28 first-place votes (poll on page 8). *Colorado College 2, at No. 8/8 Minnesota Duluth 1 Friday, Feb. 19 FROZEN FACEOFF SEEDING IN SIGHT: With the NCHC regular season set to conclude next weekend, seeding for the upcoming NCHC *at No. 2/1 North Dakota 4, No. 9/10 Omaha 1 Tournament is taking shape. North Dakota has locked up the No. 1 seed Saturday, Feb. 20 with the Penrose Cup title, but seeds 2 through 8 are still to be decided. The Mavericks clinched the league title and MacNaughton Cup on the final night • FOUNDED 1951 • of the season with a 4-1 win at league runner-up Bemidji State.
