Feel the embrace of breath‐taking music that transports you from your theatre seat straight to Ireland. Celebration brings together our very favourite songs from the journey so far–songs that have created an incredible bond with audiences all over the world. Experience the power of the uplifting anthems You Raise Me Up and the soaring harmonies of Danny Boy. Celtic Woman is an all-female Irish musical ensemble conceived and created by David Kavanagh, Sharon Browne and David Downes, a former musical director of the Irish stage show Riverdance, In 2004, Downes recruited five Irish female musicians who had not previously performed together: vocalists Chloë Agnew, Órla Fallon, Lisa Kelly and Méav Ní Mhaolchatha, and fiddler Máiréad Nesbitt, and shaped them into the first lineup of the group that he named "Celtic Woman", a specialty group. Downes chose a repertoire that ranged from traditional Celtic tunes to modern songs. The show was meant to be a one-time event held in Dublin, Ireland, but multiple airings on PBS helped boost the group's popularity. The group has sold over nine million records worldwide. April 11, 2016 Media Contact: Savannah Whaley Pierson Grant Public Relations 954-776-1999 ext. 225 Jan Goodheart, Broward Center 954-765-5814 Celtic Woman Celebrates No. 1 World Music Album, “Destiny” “CELTIC WOMAN: THE DESTINY TOUR” COMES TO THE BROWARD CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS ON APRIL 28 FORT LAUDERDALE – Irish music sensation CELTIC WOMAN celebrates its brand new album, Destiny on its 85-city North American concert tour of the same name that comes to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. Destiny dominated the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s World Music Chart for seven weeks after its January release – their ninth record to hit No. 1 in a decade-long career, a true testament to the ensemble’s enduring popularity. Celtic Woman will perform songs from Destiny on its tour that launched from Nashville on March 4 and continues through early July. The performances honor Ireland’s past, while bringing a contemporary musical edge to songs old and new in a way that also reflects the vibrant, modern nation that Ireland has become. The Destiny Tour features an entirely new production showcasing vocalists Mairéad Carlin, Susan McFadden and newest member Éabha McMahon along with Celtic violinist and founding member Máiréad Nesbitt, accompanied by a group of equally talented musicians and dancers. Destiny CD/DVD (Manhattan Records) is Celtic Woman’s tenth CD and first of all-new material since 2011’s Believe. Destiny features a fresh fusion of traditional Irish music and modern songcraft, including the Waterboys classic “The Whole of the Moon,” Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire,” from The Hobbit film, Mutt Lange’s “Walk Beside Me,” Brendan Graham’s “Sometimes a Prayer Will Do,” and the popular video game theme, "Skyrim." In 2016, as Ireland commemorates the Irish Rebellion of 100 years ago that led to its nation’s independence, Celtic Woman offers a rousing version of “Óró sé do bheatha ‘bhaile,” an anthem closely connected with the 1916 Easter Rising.
