Bospop 2016 was a festival for music lovers for all different styles and by the stunning line-up there were also many bands to spot or to rediscover. Petrus – The Weather God was utmost good humored and so it was a real sunny and well-tempered festival-weekender. The freaks who were to stream in masses were celebrating a hellish hot, peaceful day and night party. By Markus Hagner, Markus Hagner Photography. Midas and band-friends was having the honor to open on the big, main-stage and was immediately getting the action started by his hooky pop-rock. Next were the local protagonists from Weert – rock band Vido who were joined by the orchestra Sint Antonius. A real first top-notch on the second stage in the huge tent. From the very first tunes all the sixties and seventies music devotees were attracted to celebrate a sensational show by the theme of Joe Cocker meets Procol Harum.

  • The Waterboys –
The Waterboys – Where The Action Is (43:30, LP, Cooking Vinyl, 2019) Wo nimmt der Kerl diese unbändige Kreativität her? Treffender Titel seines neuesten Werks: „Where The Action Is“. Die stilistische Vielfalt des Vorgängers „Out Of All This Blue“ wird abermals, kondensiert auf 45 Minuten Album-Länge, unters Volk geworfen. Langeweile kommt da nicht auf. Pub-Rock, Punk, Folk-Balladen, eine Prise Soul, viele zupackend poppige Melodien und oben drauf noch ein Märchen. Der Opener und Titelsong ‚Where The Action Is‘ kommt sofort auf den Punkt und nimmt uns Fans mit zurück in selige „This Is The Sea“ Zeiten. Die Hommage an Mick Jones (neeiiin, natürlich der Andere, der von The Clash) ‚London Mick‘ legt dazu noch ein Schippe Punk auf. Mit ‚In My Time On Earth‘ gelingt Scott eine seiner eindringlichsten Balladen seit langer Zeit. Wenn er singt: „And the man on my screen is an actor and a fake. Yet he preens like a golden superstar“, weiß man sofort, wer gemeint ist. ‚Ladbroke Grove Symphony‘ hat diese ganz spezielle Klasse, die der berühmte ‚Glastonbury Song‘ ebenfalls hat. So eine Nummer schreibt man nicht alle Tage. ‚Take Me There I Will Follow You‘ entzieht sich jeglicher Kategorie. Spechgesang, Soulpop-Chor, Hip-Hop-Beat und die eine oder andere Verrücktheit. Scott wirft alles in einen Topf. Zum Schutz Ihrer persönlichen Daten ist die Verbindung zu YouTube blockiert worden. Klicken Sie auf Video laden, um die Blockierung zu YouTube aufzuheben.

  • Sovereign One Sheet
CHRIS MURPHY SOVEREIGN Los Angeles may be the City of Angels, but it’s the haunt of many a King and Queen of the music scene, too. Among the kingdom’s chief Lords of the Strings is the unassuming yet wildly prolific violin master Chris Murphy, whose latest full-length album, Sovereign, tips its crown to the rise and fall of the mighty and the meek in a 13-song cycle of tuneful Americana-inspired vocal arrangements and bustling rhythms from Celtic to Kansas City to Hill Country. Joining Murphy in this celebration of his subjects—wily wenches, the prison of desire, longing glances into the valley of hope—is a robust council of roots, rock, and world music royalty. The names read like an invite to a coronation: British art-rock giant Brian Augur; Elvis Costello drummer Pete Thomas; Cuban percussion great Walfredo Reyes, Jr.; sax colossus Dana Colley of Morphine; and Iggy Pop bass man Hal Cragin, are among the first guests to arrive. Cover art by Eric Stoner As befits a court so replete, Murphy’s electric guitar throne is no jester’s chair, either, National Street Date: June 30th, 2021 boasting Blues Traveler titan Chan Kinchla, along with John Mayer/Lucinda Williams alum Doug Pettibone, and Nate LaPointe (Bobby Womack, Cubensis). Also, in attendance at the Friendly Folk Records ball is L.A. art-punk bass icon Mike Watt (The Minutemen, fIREHOSE, The Stooges, Porno www.friendlyfolkrecords.org for Pyros) and the elegant Jenny Conlee of The Decemberists, who offers arch accordion on “Your Guess Is As Good As Mine.” Even primo percussionist Steven Hodges (Tom Waits, ALBUM: SOVEREIGN, music and lyrics by Chris Murphy Mavis Staples) drops in for a spell, as does old-timey stalwart Bruce Molsky on “Pear Inspired to produce music in spite of the pandemic lockdown, Blossom.” The much-loved Lord of Bluegrass Tim O’Brien mans-up on the mandolin and American singer/songwriter/violinist/mandolinist Chris Murphy sings gorgeous harmony on Murphy’s “Boxed In” and “Your Guess Is As Good As Mine”.

Final report on Huntly branding project (Room to Roam) Jacques Coetzer February –July 2008 February – March. Gathering impressions by engaging with the community : In early February I arrive with my family and settle into Huntly town life. I am introduced to Claudia Zeiske, director of Deveron Arts, Donald Boyd, Huntly town coordinator and members of the Aberdeenshire Towns Partnership, as well as Sheila Waterhouse of the Aberdeenshire Council Arts Development . I embark on a schedule of one-on-one meetings with some key figures in the town in order to gather views of the town’s identity: Hilda Lumsden-Gill of the Huntly Community Council, Douglas Forrest (architect), Ron Brander (Ramblers club), Bill Dean (Deans’s shortbread factory), Kevin Shand (RB Farquhar), Euan Shand (Whiskies of Scotland), Roy Young (Nordic ski tutor), Pat Scott (Huntly Express), Moira Ingleby (Conservative Party representative), Joanna Strathdee (Scottish National Party representative), Fiona Manson (Huntly Tourist Association), Anne Hyslop (Gordon Primary), David Sherriffs (Huntly Business Association), Patrick Scott (Historian), Philip Morrison (Rizza’s Ices) and Malcolm Bruce (Liberal Democrat Party representative). My family and I receive a welcoming letter from Mr. Alex Salmond, Scottish first minister. An article that explains the principles of the branding project is published in the Huntly Express and prompts members of public to introduce themselves to me and my family and share their views and ideas about the town’s identity. Casual conversations at various social functions and interaction at the school, where our children are involved, shine some light on people’s opinions about the town’s multiple identities.
