Ev Song Capsules THE WEATHERMAN LP – SONG CAPSULES "I KNOW" "Go out on my own, something that I gotta do" It’s never easy to start from scratch. I knew this would be the 1st song on my album when I made it early in the recording process. "If you build it they will come"-Field Of Dreams "MR SLOW FLOW" My first single…I really wasn’t trying to fit in when I made this song. Being fresh off Capitol Records where they were trying to mold Dilated Peoples into Pop hit makers, this is my “Fuck You” record. Real dark, clever wordplay and heavy cuts. Basically the original energy of what people were attracted to me for in the first place. Back to square one. "Party Time, Excellent!" -Wayne Cambell "LETYOURSELFGO" feat THE ALCHEMIST & PHONTE This was supposed to be for The Alchemist & Evidence Album (A&E) coming next year. This is one of Al's best beats to date. (Bold statement) My verse is really about starting all over in life and letting myself go, hence the title was born. I just came off tour with Little Brother and had learned that Phonte could really sing, so we sent him the song hoping he would write a hook of that nature, when we got it back it was completely different than we imagined, but was crazy fresh. "It’s A Keeper" -Fat Bastard, Austin Powers "DOWN IN NEW YORK CITY" This is my version of Notorious B.I.G.'s, "Going Back To Cali" I’m born and raised in L.A. but my parents are both from NY and I’ve been going back and forth my whole life. I also had been waiting to work with Jake One for a long time. "What a better place than here, what a better time than now" -Zach De La Rocha "A MOMENT IN TIME" feat PLANET ASIA Nothing like memory lane. Asia and I are the same age off by a couple months. Our stories and upbringings are very different, but the song is so cohesive because we come from the same era... "Memories Like The Corners Of My Mind, Misty Water-Colored Memories..." - Barbra Streisand "ALL SAID & DONE" feat KOBE My second single. Dj Khalil is a monster when it comes to the beats. When I went to see him to hear tracks he said, “I don’t wanna play you a bunch of different beats…I made this one for you.” I said “GREAT” and got the hell outta there quick before he changed his mind! "Wrap It Up, I'll Take It" -Fabulous Thunderbirds "PERFECT STORM" feat RAKAA-IRISCIENCE & MADCHILD Rakaa came up with the hook and concept. I didn’t wanna have a title track, so this is the closest thing. Coincidentally I had produced an unreleased song for Swollen Members with the same title, so I thought I could tie it all together by doing the song with Rakaa and Madchild. "It Never Rains In Southern California"-Tony!Toni! Tone! "CHASE THE CLOUDS AWAY" My Mom passed away two years ago.. I was stuck in a depression for the whole first year after. Then early one morning I woke up feeling ok. The sun was out and I figured maybe I chased the clouds away. I sat my girlfriend at the time down in front of my Pro Tools and showed her how to record me. "Today Was A Good Day"-Ice Cube "NC TO CA" feat DEFARI, RAPPER BIG POOH & JOE SCUDDA This was an off day on The Dilated/Little Brother/Defari Tour. Funny when you don’t try sometimes the best work happens. Defari and I reppin’ CA...Joe Scudda and Big Pooh reppin’ NC. I made the beat. (Shameless plug!) "HOJ rolling with Ev, take a toke'' -Rapper Big Pooh "EVIDENCE IS EVERYWHERE" Just a nice little one verser. It’s an album; it’s nice to have songs that dip in and out quick. "Evidence"-pronounced (Ev-a-din-s) –Webster’s Dictionary "THINGS YOU DO" Everywhere I go people have a very opinionated feelings about what I do...good and bad. This is me speaking in third person repeating different things people have told me about myself over the years. This is a performance favorite. ''That's Hot!"-Paris Hilton "LINE OF SCRIMMAGE" feat SLUG This song is gonna turn the underground upside down. Slug over an Alchemist beat? This doesn’t happen everyday. Slug came up with the rhyme pattern and I followed suit. "1st and goal"-John Madden "BELIEVE IN ME" feat RES The cat you love today gonna be a different rapper tomorrow. I feel I’m building a brand that’s gonna stay consistent with what I establish it as. Having Res on the song is crazy. She does what she does as well not a formula chaser, somebody to get behind and believe in. "Pleasebelieveit"-Snoop Dogg "BORN IN LA" feat CHACE INFINATE & SICK JACKEN Three different sides of LA; three different outlooks; three different ethnicities. This is gonna be a L.A. anthem. "To live and die in L.A." -Tupac "I STILL LOVE YOU" This is for my Mom-Jana Taylor. I love her and miss her a lot. I found an interview she did on television in the late eighties. I wanted to end the LP with her voice. "Dunno what you got till it’s gone" –Joni Mitchell.
