6 7 RESEARCH STUDENTS ACTIVITIES

One of the main activities of the European Faculty of Law is to perform research activities in various fields of law. Many professors invite students to co-operate with them when conducting research, which offers numerous students the possibility to expand their knowledge and get a sense for this kind of work. Research is conducted through the following internal Research Institutes and Centres: • Institute for Management of Real Estate, • Comparative Law Centre, • Intellectual Property Centre. In 2007, all three institutes were already registered in the evidence of research organizations with the Slovenian Research Agency. The faculty also closely co-operates with the following research institutes: • Institute for Constitutional Order and , • Institute for International Law, • Civil Law Institute, and • Institute for Legal, Economic and Financial Analysis of the European Faculty of Law.

The Student Council of the European Faculty of Law consists of student representatives. It discusses and gives the competent authorities of the Faculty an opinion on the Statute of the Faculty, providing advice on all matters relating to the rights and obligations of students. It adopts and implements a programme of extra-curricular activities for students of the Faculty, in collaboration with the community of students. The Student Council currently has 10 members. The office term of the Student Council is one year. Students of the Faculty through elections elect Student Council members. Elections are generally conducted in the second half of October.

The Student Council is responsible for the motivation and support of the students on their study path. At the same time it also does not neglect the importance of extracurricular activities through which students can gain additional knowledge and strengthen their friendships outside of school. In recent years the Student Council has carried out a number of activities among which the most important are the annual visit to the Constitutional Court and the National Assembly, a number of round tables on current issues, sports and recreational competitions, student picnics, tours to the European institutions, final trips and charity campaigns of collecting school supplies for children from poorer families. Last year the Student Council helped students to establish the ELSA Nova Gorica association and in collaboration with the Career Centre EVRO-PF was and is responsible for raising awareness of students about all kinds of employment opportunities, forms of additional education at home and abroad, and the prospects of the integration of students into the labour market after completing their studies.
