It was created by Frank Spotnitz and produced by Amazon Studios, Scott Free Productions, Headline Pictures, Electric Shepherd Productions, and Big Light Productions. The series is based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Philip K. Dick. In a parallel universe, Germany and Japan divided the United States into the Great Nazi Reich in the east, with the capital of New York as the regional capital and the Japanese Pacific states in the west. These areas are separated by a neutral zone covering the Rocky Mountains. The series begins in 1962 and follows characters whose fates intertwine when they come into contact with newsreels and home movies that show that Germany and Japan are losing the war. The title of the series refers to the mysterious it is believed to have created the footage. The pilot program premiered in January 2015, and Amazon ordered a ten-episode season the following month, which was released in November. The second season of ten episodes premiered in December 2016, and the third season aired on October 5, 2018. The fourth and final season premiered on November 15, 2019. The flag of the Japanese Pacific States, part of the Empire of Japan Flag of Nazi America, part of the Great Nazi Reich The main setting of the series is the parallel universe where the Axis powers won World War II in 1946 after Giuseppe zangara killed United States President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933, which creates a series of events that include the Germans dropping an atomic bomb on Washington, D.C. The Eastern and Midwest of North America is a colony controlled by the Great Nazi Reich (GNR) under the aging Fuhrer Adolf Hitler. The colony, led by the Reichsmarshall of North America, is commonly referred to as Nazi America or American Reich, and its capital is New York. Western North America, now part of the Japanese Pacific states, is occupied by the technologically less developed Siova-period Empire of Japan, which assimilated its former American citizens into Japanese culture, although high-class ethnic Japanese are extremely fascinated by pre-war American culture. Japan's trade and science ministers work in the Pacific capital of San Francisco. The neutral zone covered by the Rocky Mountains serves as a buffer zone because of Cold War-like tensions between the German and Japanese blocs. Japanese rulers subject non-Japanese people to racial discrimination and less rights, while the Nazis continue to prey on minorities and to appease the physically and mentally ill. The excellent technology of the Germans is emphasized by the use of video phones and Concorde-like missiles for intercontinental travel. The views of many other countries, some of which have won, some of which have been executed by Allied leaders such as Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin, some of whom are doing well with American resistance, are shown in films collected by The Man in the High Castle. Starring Home USA, as pictured in the television series The Man in the High Castle. Although Denver is the capital of the neutral zone, Canon City is a major parameter. The German Reich also extends to Europe and Africa, the Japanese Empire includes Asia, and another buffer zone is present in the Urals, but most of the series is set in the former US and in Germany itself.
