We are ready at last to set sail for the stars.” Carl Sagan RESUMO Os gêneros Psalmopoeus Pocock, 1895 e Tapinauchenius Ausserer, 1871 são revisados, e a maioria das espécies são redescritas, chaves taxonômicas para a identificação de espécies são propostas e mapas de distribuição são apresentados. Tapinauchenius é composto pelas espécies: Tapinauchenius plumipes (C. L. Koch, 1842), Tapinauchenius latipes L. Koch, 1875 e Tapinauchenius sanctivincenti (Walckenaer, 1837). Tapinauchenius cupreus Schmidt & Bauer, 1996 é sinonimizada com Tapinauchenius latipes, e Tapinauchenius brunneus Schmidt, 1995 e Tapinauchenius gigas Caporiacco, 1954 são consideradas sinônimos-júniores de Tapinauchenius plumipes. Tapinauchenius concolor (Caporiacco, 1947) é considerada “nomem dubium”. Tapinauchenius elenae Schmidt, 1994 e Tapinauchenius subcaeruleus Bauer & Antonelli, 1997 são transferidas para Psalmopoeus e as novas combinações Psalmopoeus elenae (Schmidt, 1994) n. comb., e Psalmopoeus subcaeruleus (Bauer & Antonelli, 1997) n. comb. são estabelecidas. Psalmopoeus é composto por 14 espécies: Psalmopoeus cambridgei Pocock, 1895, Psalmopoeus ecclesiasticus Pocock, 1903, Psalmopoeus emeraldus Pocock, 1903, Psalmopoeus intermedius Chamberlin, 1940, Psalmopoeus irminia Saager, 1994, Psalmopoeus langenbucheri Schmidt, Bullmer & Thierer-Lutz, 2006, Psalmopoeus plantaris Pocock, 1903, Psalmopoeus pulcher Petrunkevitch, 1925, Psalmopoeus reduncus (Karsch, 1880), Psalmopoeus victori Mendoza, 2014, Psalmopoeus elenae (Schmidt, 1994 ) n. comb, Psalmopoeus subcaeruleus (Bauer & Antonelli, 1997) n. comb, e duas espécies novas: Psalmopoeus sp. nov 1 e Psalmopoeus sp. nov 2. Foi efetuada análise cladística com 45 táxons e 84 caracteres utilizando o programa TNT, com pesos iguais (L= 180, Ci 41, Ri= 67) e com pesagem implícita (K weight = 4.909, L= 184, Ci=41, Ri= 66). As duas metodologias usadas recuperaram Tapinauchenius e Psalmopoeus como monofiléticos e grupos irmãos dentro de Aviculariinae. Palavras chave: Tarântulas neotropicais, Psalmopoeinae, Selenocosmiinae, orgão estridulatorio, sistemática. ABSTRACT The arboreal tarantula genera Psalmopoeus Pocock, 1895 and Tapinauchenius Ausserer, 1871 are taxonomically reviewed, the majority of the species are redescribed, taxonomic keys are proposed for species identification and maps with distribution of the species are presented. Tapinauchenius has three valid species: Tapinauchenius plumipes (C. L. Koch, 1842), Tapinauchenius latipes L. Koch, 1875 and Tapinauchenius sanctivincenti (Walckenaer, 1837). Tapinauchenius cupreus Schmidtt & Bauer, 1996 is synonimized with Tapinauchenius latipes, and Tapinauchenius brunneus Schmidt, 1995 and Tapinauchenius gigas Caporiacco, 1954 are considered junior- synonyms of Tapinauchenius plumipes. Tapinauchenius concolor (Caporiacco, 1947) is considered “nomen dubium”. Tapinauchenius elenae Schmidt, 1994 and Tapinauchenius subcaeruleus Bauer & Antonelli, 1997 are transferred to Psalmopoeus making the new combinations Psalmopoeus elenae (Schmidt, 1994) n. comb., and Psalmopoeus subcaeruleus (Bauer & Antonelli, 1997) n. comb., respectively. Psalmopoeus is composed of 14 species: Psalmopoeus cambridgei Pocock, 1895, Psalmopoeus ecclesiasticus Pocock, 1903, Psalmopoeus emeraldus Pocock, 1903, Psalmopoeus intermedius Chamberli, 1940, Psalmopoeus irminia Saager, 1994, Psalmopoeus langenbucheri Schmidt, Bullmer & Thierer-Lutz, 2006, Psalmopoeus plantaris Pocock, 1903, Psalmopoeus pulcher Petrunkevitch, 1925, Psalmopoeus reduncus (Karsch, 1880), Psalmopoeus victori Mendoza, 2014, Psalmopoeus elenae (Schmidt, 1994 ) n. comb, Psalmopoeus subcaeruleus (Bauer & Antonelli, 1997) n. comb, two of them newly described: Psalmopoeus sp. nov 1 and Psalmopoeus sp. nov 2. Cladistic analyses for 45 taxa and 84 characters were carried out with TNT program, with equal weights ( L= 180, Ci 41, Ri= 67) and under implied weighting (K weight = 4.909, L= 184, Ci=41, Ri= 66).The two used methodologies recovered Tapinauchenius and Psalmopoeus as monophyletics and as sister groups inside Aviculariinae. In this study, we investigated some non-peptide small molecule constituents of Hormurus waigiensis venom using LC/MS, reversed-phase HPLC, and NMR spectroscopy. We identified adenosine, adenosine monophosphate (AMP), and citric acid within the venom, with low quantities of the amino acids glutamic acid and aspartic acid also being present.

Koch, 1841) (Theraphosidae, Aviculariinae) is a very rare, colorful and small tarantula found in the Atlantic Rainforest in Bahia and Sergipe. The original description of this species was based on a single female and no illustrations of reproductive organs were presented. After we collected several specimens identified as I. seladonium, we decided to redescribe this species and discovered that the male, previously described as belonging to this species, was misidentified by MELLO LEITÃO (1923). Thus, in this paper the male of I. seladonium is newly described and the reproductive organs of male and female are described and illustrated in detail. Notes on the behavior and natural history of I. seladonium are presented based on the observation of live specimens in the field and in captivity. An immature of I. seladonium was observed constructing a hinged retreat with silk and little pieces of bark, a behavior not previously seen for other Aviculariinae.

The Tapesia Campus is home to 296 species of fauna and 38 species of flora. Among the animal species, of mention is the incredible arachnid Lyrognathus saltator, the common Tarantula, which is found nesting among our vast expanse of greens. These numbers reveal the rich biodiversity of the Campus which summon for both admiration as well as protection and conservation.

Abstract The genus Avicularia Lamarck 1818 contains the oldest mygalomorph species described. It’s taxonomical history is very complex and for the first time it has been revised. A cladistic analysis with 70 characters and 43 taxa were done. The preferred cladogram was obtained using the computer program Pee Wee and concavity 6. The subfamily Aviculariinae contains the genera Stromatopelma, Heteroscodra, Psalmopoeus, Tapinauchenius, Ephebopus, Pachistopelma, Iridopelma, Avicularia, Genus 1 and Gen. nov. 1, Gen. nov. 2, Gen. nov. 3 and Gen. nov.4. Aviculariinae is monophyletic, sharing the presence of spatulated scopulae on tarsi and metatarsi, juveniles with a central longitudinal stripe connected with lateral stripes on dorsal abdomen and arboreal habit. The synapomorphy of Avicularia is the presence of a moderately developed protuberance on tegulum. The genus is constituted by 14 species: A. avicularia (type species), A. juruensis, A. purpurea, A. taunayi, A. variegata status nov., A. velutina, A. rufa, A. aymara, Avicularia sp.

Two new species and some additional information were added in 1921 (Vol. XXII) in an account of the Spiders of Barkuda Island in the Chilka Lake. I have to thank Mr. H. Chennappaiya, Zoological Assistant in the Madras Government Museum, for assistance in working out the additional material, mostly sent by the Indian Museum, Calcutta, whj.ch is dealt with in this paper. Mygalomorph spiders are popularly regarded as poisonous, but authentic records of their bites seem to be rare. The effects of bites of t.wo species, Macrothele vidua and Haploclastus' nilgirinus, are described below (pp. 73 & 81). Family OTENIZIDAE. Genus Heligmomerus Simon. The specimen recorded in the first series of ' these notes, and stated therein as possibly introduced into the Botanical Gardens at Sibpur near Calcutta, was probably indigenous, as a well-grown female of the genus has since been found on the ground floor of the Museum House, Calcutta, and a number of smaller ones have been sent from Serampore by Mrs. Drake. In the absence of'males the species cannot be adequately defined. The species described as Acanthodon barkudensis in the second paper mentioned above, proves on further examination to have the tibiae of the third pair of legs of the female excavate above and must, therefore, be transferred to this genus. In the male this excavation is, however, obsolete-which suggests that Idiops bikaricus, described from a male only in the first paper, may perhaps also belong to th~ genus.
