Nrs Notes Q3 2017.Pdf Data are strictly embargoed until 08:59 Monday 18 December 2017 Notes about this Report This report shows NRS Average Issue Readership estimates sorted by publication group (daily newspapers, Sunday newspapers, general weekly magazines etc.) for two data periods, 12 months and 6 months. Virtually all publications are reported on the 12-month base*, but only those with a sufficient sample size are reported on the 6-month base. There are separate reports for All Adults, Scotland, Men and Women. This report also shows, for comparison, circulation figures (source: ABC, UK only figures www.abc.org.uk) for national daily and Sunday newspapers. NRS datasets in 2017 are a blend of NRS and AMP print data. Due to the different methodologies, the PAMCo Board have mandated that NRS and AMP data should not be compared for commercial or marketing purposes. This means that this report should not be compared with previous periods of NRS data. Average Issue Readership (or AIR) is the most commonly used estimate of a publication’s readership provided by the NRS. An “average issue reader” is defined as anyone who has read a publication within the interval between one issue and the next, in other words read yesterday for a daily newspaper, read in the last 7 days for a weekly newspaper or magazine, read in the past 4 weeks for a monthly magazine etc. About NRS Estimates The National Readership Survey estimates the number (and type) of people who read national daily and Sunday newspapers, newspaper supplements, and general and women’s magazines. The NRS is a continuous survey based on interviews with a representative sample of around 35,000 adults in Great Britain every year. The published readership estimates are used by publishers and agencies as a basis for buying and selling advertising space in newspapers and magazines. NRS provides readership estimates for some 270 publications. Further data from NRS The full NRS database is released to subscribers on a quarterly basis, for periods ending March, June, September and December. It contains a wealth of information about the type of readers that different publications have. A summary of these data can be found at the NRS website: www.nrs.co.uk, or alternatively, PAMCo. would be happy to assist you. • Notes About This Report
NRS Estimates of Average Issue Readership for latest 12 & 6 month periods Ending June 200 Media Release September 19th, 2005 For the first time, NRS is producing a set data for journalists and media commentators to help them identify and quantify changes in the survey’s readership estimates. These tables will now be updated every quarter, and will be available via email or via the NRS website (in the subscribers-only section) at www.nrs.co.uk. Notes About This Report This report shows NRS Average Issue Readership estimates sorted by publication group (daily newspapers, Sunday newspapers, general weekly magazines etc.) for two data periods, 12 months and 6 months. Virtually all publications are reported on the 12-month base*, but only those with a sufficient sample size are reported on the 6-month base. The first column is the estimate (in 000s) for the most recent data period, the second column the estimate for the equivalent period a year ago. The third and fourth columns show the difference in the estimates between those periods, expressed in 000s and as a plus or minus percentage change. It is important to note that – as with any other sample-based survey - NRS estimates are subject to sampling variation. If two independent samples of the population are interviewed – which is what NRS is doing each year – the estimates obtained from these samples may be different, but if the differences are relatively small, they may be due simply to sampling variation. Therefore, when making any period-on-period comparison, it is important to express it as a change in the readership estimate, rather than a change in the actual readership.

  • Reach PLC Summary Response to the Digital Markets Taskforce Call for Evidence
Reach PLC summary response to the Digital Markets Taskforce call for evidence Introduction Reach PLC is the largest national and regional news publisher in the UK, with influential and iconic brands such as the Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Sunday People, Daily Record, Daily Star, OK! and market leading regional titles including the Manchester Evening News, Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Mail and Bristol Post. Our network of over 70 websites provides 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, with over one billion views every month. Last year we sold 620 million newspapers, and we over 41 million people every month visit our websites – more than any other newspaper publisher in the UK. Changes to the Reach business Earlier this month we announced changes to the structure of our organisation to protect our news titles. This included plans to reduce our workforce from its current level of 4,700 by around 550 roles, gearing our cost base to the new market conditions resulting from the pandemic. These plans are still in consultation but are likely to result in the loss of over 300 journalist roles within the Reach business across national, regional and local titles. Reach accepts that consumers will continue to shift to its digital products, and digital growth is central to our future strategy. However, our ability to monetise our leading audience is significantly impacted by the domination of the advertising market by the leading tech platforms. Moreover, as a publisher of scale with a presence across national, regional and local markets, we have an ability to adapt and achieve efficiencies in the new market conditions that smaller local publishers do not.

  • Scottsih Newspapers Have a Long Hisotry Fof Involvement With
68th IFLA Council and General Conference August 18-24, 2002 Code Number: 051-127-E Division Number: V Professional Group: Newspapers RT Joint Meeting with: - Meeting Number: 127 Simultaneous Interpretation: - Scottish Newspapers and Scottish National Identity in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries I.G.C. Hutchison University of Stirling Stirling, UK Abstract: Scotland is distinctive within the United Kingdom newspaper industry both because more people read papers and also because Scots overwhelmingly prefer to read home-produced organs. The London ‘national’ press titles have never managed to penetrate and dominate in Scotland to the preponderant extent that they have achieved in provincial England and Wales. This is true both of the market for daily and for Sunday papers. There is also a flourishing Scottish local weekly sector, with proportionately more titles than in England and a very healthy circulation total. Some of the reasons for this difference may be ascribed to the higher levels of education obtaining in Scotland. But the more influential factor is that Scotland has retained distinctive institutions, despite being part of Great Britain for almost exactly three hundred years. The state church, the education system and the law have not been assimilated to any significant amount with their counterparts south of the border. In the nineteenth century in particular, religious disputes in Scotland generated a huge amount of interest. Sport in Scotlaand, too, is emphatically not the same as in England, whether in terms of organisation or in relative popularity. Additionally, the menu of major political issues in Scotland often has been and is quite divergent from England – for instance, the land question and self-government.
