Five candidates have been chosen to interview for the vice president for Student Affairs position, and interviews will begin next week. The search for the position began in in February when Shirley Stewart, former acting vice president for Student AffiUrs, resigned. 4'nette Drake, director of Eastern's Health Services, has served in the position while the search for a per- manent replacement was performed. The position was advertised in the Chronicle of Higher Education and on Eastern's Web site. There were 51 candi- dates who applied for the position. Mona Davenport, director of Eastern's Minority Affairs, is serving as the search committee chair for the position. "At Eastern lllinois University, we are looking for an individ- ual who can build upon our current strengths with innovative, successful strategies as we shape our funue," Davenport said. "In short, we want to have a program that will serve as the benc:lunuk ofsuccess for other regional public institutions." Interviews will begin next Tuesday and conclude April 28. It is anticipated a new vice president will be named in May with the chosen individual beginning woik Aug. I.
