32 The Jewish Observer, February 2001 REPORT FROM EREIZ nsROEL Miriam Zakon Speaking Up For the Wall The Regular Mispallelos at the J(osel Find Their Voice

How far is it from the Kosel HaMaaravi to the Israeli Supreme Court building? By car, when traffic is light, the trip takes about ten minutes. In history, close to two millennia separates the ancient stones of the second Beis HaMikdash from the stunning stone and glass edifice built in the past decade. Spiritually, the distance between the holiest spot on this earth - site of the Akeida (the binding of Isaac), of Yaakov's dream, of two Temples - and the home of modern-day Israel's bastion of secular ;ustice seems almost unbridgeable. And yet, on this balmy day in , about sixty men and women sit in a gleaming courtroom in the Supreme Court building, waiting for justice, hoping for justice, wondering if justice is possible in this place, at this time. At issue is the Wall.
