This year marks the fifth year of Kildare Ministries. You may be aware that Killester was established by the in 1955. The Sisters actually set their first convent up in in the late 1800s and over their history, established and governed many schools across and interstate. In their recent history the Sisters spent a number of years considering the future of their schools and made the decision to establish a new governance structure. This process was quite involved and required the Sisters to apply to the Vatican in order to ensure the new body had the permission to operate as a Catholic organisation. They received approval and five years ago launched the new organisation, now known as Kildare Ministries. In doing so, the Sisters have handed over authority and schools to this group which comprises of Sisters and lay people. In the coming weeks we will celebrate the fifth birthday of Kildare Ministries in the school. The strength of Kildare Ministries is that it is carrying on the work of the Brigidine Sisters with the same emphasis of welcome to all, especially the most vulnerable. Hospitality - Welcoming All Killester Swimming Sports

Our annual House Swimming Carnival was held at Noble Park Aquatic Centre on Friday of last week. The weather conditions were near perfect for the day, it made even the teachers feel like they wanted to dive in the pool and swim!

Some of us did take the plunge and took part in the staff vs student race, alas, the students took 1st place again… dare I say it’s becoming a trend. Thank you to Emma Neville, Peter Cherrington and Penny Curtis for their efforts... Next year we hope!

It was great to see the girls dress up in their house colours, we had some very creative costumes! Thank you very much to all the house leaders involved from Years 7-11, who assisted their Year 12 house leader in filling their teams for the day. But a special thank you goes to the Year 12 house leaders: Acacia Quinn (Brigid), Joanna Guelas (Romero), Cynthian Thai (Mackillop) and Serena Fitzgerald (Chisholm) who were the ‘go to’ girls in both the lead up to the day, and during the carnival. Thank you so much girls, you did a great job with your teams.

Thank you to all of the Killester staff who completed a whole range of jobs on the day, without your assistance the carnival wouldn’t be pos- sible.

A special thank you also to the PE team: Peter Cherrington, Emma Sadler, Michel Kennedy, Emma Neville, Sam Campion, Troy Brodie and Georgia Kann who were instrumental to the smooth running of the day.

Congratulations to Romero, another victory! Romero has now won swim- ming in 2017, 2018 and now 2019. The final house swimming scores are listed below:

Chisholm: 232 Mackillop: 499 Brigid: 513 Romero: 705

Well done to the following students who broke past records set: Bethany Forster, Trudey Nguyen, Charlene Bun, Mitsuki Otaka, Anna Vrondou, Lorraine Becker, Linh Thuy Nguyen. You will find your name in the record book in 2020!

As well, a huge congratulations goes to the girls who were named year level champions and received a sash. These girls accrued the greatest amount of points in their year level. Congratulations to: Tracey Nguyen (Year 7) Mitsuki Otaka (Year 8) Lorraine Becker & Melinda Lao (Year 9) Linh Thuy Nguyen (Year 10) Amy Ong (Year 11) Bethany Forster (Year 12)

The SCSA swimming sports is coming up on March 21st, we look forward to seeing the girls swim again!

Hospitality - Welcoming All VCAL Incursion: Start Smart A Year 7 Student Perspective of Transition Financial Literacy

On Thursday the 14th of February, Julianne from the Start Smart program run by the Common- wealth Bank came to our school. She spoke to the Year 11 & 12 VCAL students as part of our Nu- meracy outcomes about how to save money and how to make money. She made us think about what we need to save our money for in the future. We discussed buying our first car (petrol, registra- tion etc ), traveling - (passports, accommodation etc). We spoke about goal setting. Hospitality - Welcoming All Easter Egg Donations Music News

All students are asked to donate ONE EASTER Commitment to our music groups EGG each for the annual fundraiser raffle. All of our music groups require special people. Students who are willing to put themselves out a little for the greater good of the whole school Please give eggs to your Homeroom teacher or community. All of our music students do that, some participating in three Student Development Leader different ensembles.

Our choirs lead our liturgies really well and provide that extra lift as we gather together. Our bands provide great entertainment at assemblies, lunchtime concerts and all contribute to our major concerts. It is a bit disappointing when some students choose to opt out of rehearsals at certain times. There will always be circumstances where this needs to happen but a decision to "just leave it for a while" often leads to that student never picking up an instrument again. As educators and parents, I feel the message of commitment needs to be gently put in front of our girls to remind them that it takes hard work to achieve success. A choir/ band is no different to a sporting team. It needs everyone pulling their weight and striving for musical excellence. A balanced school life is really important and music provides a great outlet for stress and anxiety.

Band and Choir Rehearsals All of our ensembles are now underway with the last group, our new Year 7 Vocal Group due to start next Monday February 25th at lunchtime in KMO6. The Senior Vocal group has moved its rehearsal to Thursday lunchtime in OMO3. I would ask all girls to make sure they are in good communication with their choir/band directors to ensure that rehearsals are well attended and run smoothly. These are great skills to take into the workplace as you enter adulthood. Be good communicators.

For parents/guardians of students:

2019 Student Residential Address and Other Information collection notice

This notice is from the Australian Government Department of Education and Training (the department), to advise you that the department has requested that your child’s school provide a statement of addresses, in accordance with the Australian Education Regulation 2013 (Cth) (Regulation). A statement of addresses contains the following information about each student at the school:  Student residential address (not student names)  Student level of education (i.e. whether the student is a primary or secondary student)  Student boarding school status (i.e. whether the student is boarding or a day student)  Names and residential addresses of students’ parent(s) and/or guardian(s)

Schools generate a record number for each student for the purposes of this collection, which is also provided to the department.

Purpose of the collection This collection is routinely used to inform Commonwealth school education policy, and to help ensure that Commonwealth funding arrangements for non-government schools are based on need, and are fair and transparent. On 20 September 2018 the Government announced that it will implement a new, improved capacity to contribute methodology used in the calculation of the Commonwealth’s needs-based funding arrangements for non-government schools. This follows a review of the existing socio-economic status (SES) score methodology by the National School Resourcing Board. Further information about the review and the Government’s response can be found here: https://www.education.gov.au/review-socio-economic-status-ses- score-methodology. The information collected in the statement of addresses will be used to refine the new capacity to contribute methodology and may also be used in school funding calculations from 2020.

Use and disclosure of personal information Your personal information is protected by law, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Any use and disclosure of your personal information relating to the statement of addresses will occur in accordance with the Regulation. Your personal information may be used by the department, or disclosed to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), for the purposes of SES score policy development, reviewing SES score methodology, calculating SES scores, Commonwealth school education policy development (including school funding), or where it is otherwise required or authorised by law. For example, your personal information may be provided to the ABS for statistical and research purposes, which includes data integration projects such as the Multi-Agency Data Integration Project (MADIP). Further information on the MADIP can be found here: http://www.abs.gov.au/websitedbs/D3310114.nsf/4a256353001af3ed4b2562bb00121564/9099c77cb979d55 8ca258198001b27a0/$FILE/MADIP%20iPIA_2018.pdf. The department may, from time to time, carry out audits of school submissions. In the event of an audit, contracted auditors may seek to compare a school’s statement of addresses with student enrolment information held by the school. These contractors will not use the information for any other purpose. The department may also be required to disclose your personal information to its service providers, including the Australian Government Department of Jobs and Small Business, for the purposes of the provision of information and communications technology (ICT) support services to the department.
