Daily Set-Up Quick Guidelines

Check off your name on the schedule located on the bulletin board; Place Daily Eucharist Ministers signs on chairs in chapel: first two chairs on second row Check-In on the left side and place Lector sign on second row, first chair on right side

Minster Roles o The Lead Sacristan (LS) is responsibility for most daily mass duties. This role places the key in the tabernacle. The role determines the correct vessels and linens for the mass being celebrated and places them on the before the mass celebration. The LS role sets the preliminary count of unconsecrated hosts (see below) in the . The LS role turns of and off the audio system and chapel lights. Tabernacle Key LS Role is to access ciboria in tabernacle – Genuflect before you open and after you close the and Counting tabernacle. Doors o As you leave to go for mass celebration, close the door from the Arts & Environment workroom to the hallway; this is necessary since the room faces the reservation chapel. IF YOU CLOSE THE SACRISTY DOOR, IT WILL LOCK! SO BE SURE TO TURN THE LOCK FROM VERTICAL TO HORIZONTAL AND FLIP THE DOOR HANDLE!

Mass Clean-Up Wash the vessels Only the priest, or formally installed (e.g. Pastoral year seminarian) can purify the sacred vessels. (Fr. Augustine purifies the mass vessels at the altar during mass.) Otherwise, place the mass vessels with the linens by the sacrarium for the presider to purify. o After the purification of the sacred vessels, then you may wash the vessels. o Please confirm that the corporal has been shaken into the sacrarium. o Cruets & water bowl - Drain the water in the sink and towel dry o Priest’s paten - rinse it in the sink and towel dry . Chalices o Wash them with soap and water in the sink • Use only a couple of drops of soap on the sponge because It is difficult to rinse the suds off the vessels • Clean the inner and outer rim of the chalices and then rinse and towel dry. Be careful when cleaning, as rings have scratched the chalices in past cleanings • Place soiled linens inside the linen container. If any are unsoiled, use again • Close or flip the sacrarium cover/lid down Roman Missal and o Place Roman Missal back on cabinet shelf microphones o Return the priest microphone and the ambo microphone to sacristy after all masses

Tabernacle Key o Access ciboria in tabernacle – Genuflect before you open and after you close the tabernacle. Retrieve tabernacle key and return to work sacristy location Candles and Lights o Extinguish the two candles and turn off Chapel lights using the last button on left wall o Write the mass host count down on the clipboard for each mass celebration Lock-Up o After 8:30 am or 6:30 pm mass, turn off the sacristy lights and LOCK THE SACRISTY DOOR, and LOCK the A&E door. TURN OFF THE AUDIO SYSTEM BUTTON ON THE WALL BY THE CHOIR • After the 6:30 am Mass, please do not lock the work sacristy door! CLOSE THE SACRISTY DOOR, BUT BE SURE TO TURN THE LOCK FROM VERTICAL to HORIZONTAL AND FLIP THE DOOR HANDLE before you shut the sacristy door. The 8:30 am Mass ministers need to setup. AREA

Daily Mass Lector

Preparation If you are a cross-trained lector and serving as Cup 2, please arrive 20 minutes before mass to assist the LS for mass set-up. If you are lector only, arrive at mass 15 minutes early to allow time to review your readings and perform to perform other lector duties; check off your name on the schedule located on the bulletin board. ORDO o Review the ORDO (The Order of Prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours and Celebration of the Eucharist) book to determine that you prepared for the suggested reading identified for your day. It tends to only vary when there is a celebration of a major Saint and the presider may mention to use that reading. If using the major Saint reading, it corresponds to the calendar date of mass. o To determine the appropriate Weekday to use (cycle 1 or cycle 2): - For an odd year, cycle 1 Lectionary book is used. For an even year, cycle 2 Lectionary book is used. The New Year for the church begins with the Advent weekend. Responsibilities o Lectionary is located in the work sacristy on a shelf above the sink o Place the Lectionary book on the ambo in the chapel. Make sure to turn the Lectionary book to the appropriate page readings for the day. o Place Mass intention on top of the ambo in the chapel if start of new week or not present on ambo. Often the Monday mass minster will need to place the new week’s mass intention sheet on the ambo

Seat Assignment o Sit on the right side of the chapel, no further than the second row. and reading o When you come forward and depart from the ambo, bow to the altar and not the ambo! THE MICROPHONE WILL BE IN PLACE AND TESTED. ONLY ADJUST THE MICROPHONE IF NECESSARY. MOVING IT OFTEN CAUSES IT TO FALL FROM THE AMBOI!!! After Mass o Return the Lectionary to the book shelf in the work sacristy; Return the wireless microphone to the work sacristy
