We maintained our place amongst the top A Level providers in the UK with an overall 99% pass rate and our HE provision continued to grow rapidly, heavily steered by employers and in partnership with sector leading Universities. WorldSkills was again a source of pride, where at the annual WorldSkills UK Show in Birmingham in November we won seven medals, were highly commended in two categories finishing fourth in the overall league table and number one in Wales. In addition to this success, the 10-strong Wales shortlist for the WorldSkills finals in Shanghai in 2021, features 5 Cambria learners. INNOVATE. SUCCEED. PEOPLE People At the beginning of the year, Great Places to Work conducted a staff engagement survey on our behalf. Chosen because Corporate Social Responsiblity - 85% of its support of employees on maternity leave, (+22% above UK national average and +4% above BSLW) commitment to closing the gender pay gap, training schemes, and the number of women in senior leadership positions, Cambria was the only further education institution among the 55 ranked organisations. ANNUAL REPORT 2019 | 03 EMPLOYER OF CHOICE People ACTIVE CAMBRIA ROYAL SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF ACCIDENTS (ROSPA) PRESIDENT’S AWARD Active Cambria continued to support the college’s vision to engage all staff and students and encourage them to become active, healthy and mindful. During 2019 Active Cambria offered free fitness, wellness and health activities and advice days to everyone at the college, engaging and supporting our staff and students to change any bad habits into good ones. Both students and staff prospered from the opportunities given to them, such as reduced blood pressure, increased confidence, improved emotional development and weight loss. Once again in 2019 we were awarded the ROSPA President’s Award at gold standard for outstanding Health and Safety Management. The President’s Award recognizes organisations who have achieved the gold standard for 10 consecutive years and not only maintained the standard, but clearly demonstrated year on year improvements. Active Cambria also offered students hands on experience to develop themselves and their CVs through coaching opportunities, Duke of Edinburgh, various coaching awards, volunteering in the community and Erasmus plus projects. 04 | ANNUAL REPORT 2019 INSPIRE. CELEBRATING STAFF COMMITMENT People We celebrated and recognised the commitment of staff who have worked at the college for a large number of years as well as staff who have given over and above their job roles to ensure that our students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to succeed. Eleven individual staff awards and two team awards were presented in the categories of Achievement, Customer Service, Diversity, Leadership and Innovation. Seventeen colleagues also received long service awards for 25 years service. CUSTOMER SERVICE The staff at the Toybox Nursery were given a team award for their excellent customer focus both during and following a fire that happened a the nursery in June. They evacuated the children safely and effectively on the day of the fire and worked as a team to establish a temporary nursery at the Deeside 6th during the summer period ensuring that the children were settled and happy. They also worked together after hours and at weekends The Toybox Nursery Team towards the end of the refurbishment project to ensure that the nursery was ready for use in September. ANNUAL REPORT 2019 | 05 TEACHING & LEARNING Throughout 2019 the college continued to invest in and develop excellent teaching and learning. In July we held a Teaching and Learning Conference for our staff with Geoff Petty, one of the UK’s leading experts on teaching methods as our keynote speaker. We also appointed seventeen Teaching and Learning Mentors to support and develop the quality of teaching and learning within their directorate to share examples, new ideas and strategies relating to best practice. A Higher Education Conference was held aimed at building on the work of last year in developing the HE Ethos for Coleg Cambria. INSPIRE TUTOR AWARD Essential skills tutor Pam Mclean won an Inspire Tutor Award for supporting victims of childhood abuse and domestic violence. Pam Mclean runs an essential skills course with a charity, helping women from all across North Wales to overcome barriers through learning, and says she’s constantly inspired by their stories of survival. 06 | ANNUAL REPORT 2019 INSPIRE.     Promise of Performance MSc Sport Broadcast Journalism Cardiff Metropolitan University’s postgraduate MSc in Sport Broadcast is an intensive, practical skills focused, vocational course, designed to prepare you for a successful media career in the Sport Broadcast industry whether that be in sports journalism, technical production, or sports content creation. Our module content and teaching is relevant to a rapidly changing digital and multi- platform industry, and our aim is to provide the most realistic training environment possible. This is a master's degree course designed and delivered by sports journalism industry professionals to create practitioners of Sport Broadcast and prepare them to be industry ready for employment across all areas of sport broadcast journalism. Students will develop and master a wide spectrum of broadcast journalism production skills, learn to self-shoot and edit, sharpen their journalistic instinct and develop their editorial judgment. They will critically examine the reciprocal relationship between socio-political issues, modern media coverage, news reporting, marketing, communication and professional sport. Students will also study media law, and analyse and dissect how ethics, a sense of fairness, impartiality, accuracy and a robust knowledge of media law, broadcast regulations and broadcast rights play a crucial part in operating within the modern broadcasting landscape. The inclusion of a significant work placement module (60 credits) in this sports broadcast journalism degree offers the opportunity to work in our internal broadcast unit for a minimum of 15 sport-news production days and provides a second placement opportunity with one of our external sport broadcast production partners. We have placement opportunities with all the major broadcasters in Britain and further afield for students who are prepared to travel; plus all the production companies in Wales and the major sports organisations and their respective internal media departments; these include a number of Welsh medium placement opportunities.

    Chef Bryn Williams to open new veg-centric restaurant at Somerset House In Spring 2018, celebrated Welsh chef Bryn Williams is set to open his first London restaurant in a decade, located in the renowned arts and cultural centre, Somerset House. Bryn Williams at Somerset House will offer modern British dining, serving seasonal dishes where – although not necessarily vegetarian – the fruit and vegetable components will always take centre stage. With a relaxed and contemporary environment, Somerset House’s creative community will be at the restaurant’s core – reflected through the food, service and design. The restaurant will be Williams’ second London opening, adding to a portfolio that includes Odette’s in Primrose Hill, where he has held the position of Chef Patron since 2008. In addition, Bryn Williams at Porth Eirias, a beach-front restaurant, café and bar on the North Wales coast, opened in 2015. Coming from a strong chef pedigree working under the likes of Marco Pierre White and Michel Roux, Williams shot to fame as a sous chef in 2006 by beating several established chefs to cook the fish course for the Queen's 80th birthday celebrations on the BBC’s Great British Menu. Williams’ Somerset House menu will have a strong focus on sustainability, seasonality and provenance. Fruits and vegetables will be the stars of the show, with small plates including the likes of Rainbow carrots, hand-dived scallop, sauterne, and Pickled mooli, black garlic, raw apple, sage, Cumbrian beef. Seasonal mains are to include Roast young broccoli, olive tapenade, sage beignet, scorched Cornish mackerel, and Char-grilled leeks, Burke Brown egg, morel mushroom.

Under the terms of our new Charter, we are now required to publish an annual report for each financial year from the Remuneration Committee with the names of all senior executives of the BBC paid more than £150,000 from licence fee revenue in a financial year. These are set out in this document in bands of £50,000.

Being given 10% chance of survival at birth he defied the odds and is now an ultra athlete and world record holder. 2017 saw him become the 5th person in the world to complete the ‘Worlds Physical Fitness Challenge’ in under 24 hours. In 2018, he became a world record holder by lifting 1,000,000 kilos in under 24hrs. In 2019, he has his sights on even bigger goals.
