Originally, College Park was known as Manchester and was renamed by Lula Roper who placed the name in a lottery. The affairs of College Park, Georgia are conducted by a Mayor and a Council consisting of four members. The daily operations of the city are run by the city manager appointed by and responsible to the mayor and council. More Facts The city has 853 properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. The College Park Woman’s Club is located in Historic College Park and is one of the oldest in Georgia. Also, the east-west streets(avenues) are named for Ivy League institutions and the north- south streets are named for influential College Park residents.
