WATERMELON NOTINI €4.50 Perfect for the summer months this non-alcoholic version of the classic martini incorporates freshly muddled watermelon, lime juice and watermelon syrup. Served up with a wedge of watermelon it is a sure fire way of quenching one’s thirst. SUNRISE TO SUNSET 4.50 € The combination of juices used in this delightful cocktail is the inspiration for its name. Combining orange juice, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, a touch of grenadine and topped with white lemonade this sweet temptation is too tantalising to resist. VIRGIN COLADA €4.50 The classic Pina Colada, minus the alcohol! This classic cocktail tastes just as good without the rum. Blended with ice this concoction of pineapple juice, lime juice, cream and coconut syrup is perfect for relaxing during a warm summer’s evening. MIDLETON VERY RARE €26.50 Midleton Very Rare Irish Whiskey is Ireland’s most exclusive whiskey. Only a small number of casks of the finest distillates are hand-selected by the Master Distiller at the Midleton Distillery each year. The distillery is situated in Midleton, County Cork, less than thirty minutes from here. It is owned by Pernod Ricard. Located alongside is the Old Midleton Distillery which was established in the early 17th century. KILBEGGAN 8 YEAR OLD €8 Kilbeggan is a light and soft single grain whiskey that is made from white corn at the Cooley Distillery in County Louth. This used to be known as Greenore and is very popular with drinkers looking for something easy going, delicate and smooth. Imagine an all-corn American whiskey matured in refill casks. JAMESON BLENDER’S DOG €11.50 This is a blend of both grain and pot still whiskeys that have been aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels. Apparently three different spirit types are used in the grain and pot still element and four different barrel age profiles. According to Irish Distillers this ‘delivers butterscotch sweetness with a prickle of spice and tannins. Making whiskey requires a fair deal of science, but blending is an art.’ HAKUSHU DISTILLER’S RESERVE €11 A perennial favourite and a must-try for anyone interested in discovering Japanese whisky. Hakushu is owned by Suntory, founders of the first Japanese distillery, Yamazaki. The original Hakushu distillery was built in 1973, with another distillery building called Hakushu Higashi (west) added in 1981. YELLOW SPOT €11 This is the recreation of an old brand that once was partnered by Green Spot and Blue Spot whiskeys. The pot still content in Yellow Spot is medium weight, similar to Green Spot but aged for at least 12 years. Interestingly, it is drawn from three types of casks. Ex- bourbon and sherry casks are supplemented by some Malaga casks that previously held Pedro Ximenez wine. These PX casks add a good bit of weight, body and flavour, giving an extra dimension to the whiskey. Yellow Spot still retains some of the signature freshness that Green Spot has but offers a definite step up in quality and complexity. REDBREAST 15 YEAR OLD €15.70 A sumptuous single pot still whiskey with a great degree of ageing, Redbreast 15 is richer, earthier and stronger than its 12 year old sibling. An essential part of any whiskey-drinker’s education. POWERS ‘JOHN’S LANE’ SPECIAL RELEASE €12 A revival of the old style of Powers once made at the old distillery off Thomas St in Dublin. This is a no-age statement release which has been aged predominantly in ex-bourbon casks with a small amount of ex-oloroso sherry barrels. BUSHMILLS 10 YEAR OLD €7.70 This has been the standard single malt release from Bushmills for many years and is drawn from triple distilled malt that is aged in both bourbon and sherry casks. The sherry cask influence is very subtle (less so than Black Bush), and the overall taste is quite light and delicate. This is more about good bourbon casks maturation and it has a creamy, yet light mouth feel along with some crisp barley, warm vanilla and gentle pepper and spice flavours. • 90Th ANNIVERSARY of SUNTORY WHISKY
Press kit 90th Anniversary *L’art japonais du whisky depuis 1923 th 90 ANNIVERSARY OF SUNTORY WHISKY e Art of Japanese Whisky, an art of heritage and innovation On the road to its centennial, the House of Suntory Whisky marks its 90th anniversary of whisky making. Inspired by heritage and innovation, this richly experienced House dared to make Japanese Whisky a reality by tirelessly reinventing whisky to create a true form of art. It has been 90 years since founding father, Shinjiro Torii, built the first whisky distillery in Yamazaki, Japan in 1923, where this new “art of whisky making” was born. In 2012, Japanese whisky made another global breakthrough with Suntory being named Distiller of the Year for the third time in three years. For the past year, the global progress of Suntory Whisky has been nothing less than outstanding. To highlight, global shipments of e Yamazaki increased by 24% while e Hakushu increased by a remarkable 187%. None of this success has happened by chance. The same meticulous effort will be present throughout all of the ambitious projects to come in 2013. 1923 - 2013 Suntory Whisky, a legacy of three generations of innovators It all began with a man who dreamed of making a true Japanese Whisky to complement the Japanese palate. The visionary, Shinjiro Torii, established Japan’s first distillery in Yamazaki on the periphery of Kyoto. The quest was then handed to his son, Keizo Saji, who sought to create a unique taste and establish a second distillery in Hakushu, located deep within the forest of Japan’s Southern Alps.
