Curated tours of Over 50 years of Expert knowledge and SCANDINAVIA EXPERIENCE INSIDER TIPS WELCOME TO HAMAN SCANDINAVIA'S NEW FIT BROCHURE

We are proud to present the 2021/22 edition of Haman Scandinavia's FIT Brochure. Over the years, summer has always been the most popular time to explore Scandinavia and the Nordic countries. Now, we see a changing pattern where winter is competing with summer to be the most popular season to visit the region. What's more, tours are increasingly being requested during autumn and spring - periods where there are fewer tourists, but the landscapes are breathtakingly beautiful. My personal favourite time to explore the region is autumn: the sparkling colours, the clear sky, and healthy air combine to make a fantastic experience.

Scandinavia and the Nordic countries also present some very attractive products for the upmarket or selective traveller. For example, our new product Sweden Deluxe includes time in Stockholm, a night train to Lapland, a stay in the famous Treehotel with a visit to the Arctic bath, and a stay in an Art Suite in the Ice hotel. This luxury tour creates an unforgettable experience in Lapland.

In this brochure, you'll find a range of tours for every type of traveller. Feel free to get in touch with our specialized team of Scandinavia experts. They are always eager to help! Anette Karlsson

Text from Visit Norway CAPITALS

Copenhagen Arguably Scandinavia's most stylish capital city! It shines in every season, and you will fall in love with it the second you arrive. Go for rides on Tivoli or visit the very instagrammable Nyhavn!

Oslo Oslo is the perfect starting point to explore the majestic fjords of Norway. There's really no bad time to visit Oslo, but it is most lively during summer, when all the

Stockholm Whether you are strolling through the old town (Gamla Stan), visiting the ABBA Museum or just enjoying a traditional Swedish fika - Stockholm has got something for everyone.

Helsinki The sauna capital is a wonderful place to visit throughout the year but it's especially gorgeous during the festive season, when the city is dressed in Christmas lights. INSIDER GUIDE

Jana Bohn, manager of Haman FIT, discusses her favourite places in Scandinavia: Scandinavia really is an all-year-round destination, with an abundance of things to do in every season. I believe there is something for everybody here. It doesn't matter if it's the magic of the Northern Lights or the stunning hikes that drew you to Scandinavia, when you get here, you will easily find a thousand more reasons to visit again!

BERRY PICKING & NORTHERN LIGHTS IN AUTUMN Did you know that Autumn is the best season to see the Northern Lights? The nights have come creeping back and winter is not quite there yet, so you can enjoy the natural phenomenon without having to spend the whole day in darkness! Also, it is less crowded than it is in the dephts of winter and locals will have more time to engange with you, should you have any questions.

The leaves have already changed colour and illuminate the breathtaking nature in a golden glow. It is truly one of the most stunning seasons to visit Scandinavia. So if you have the chance, plan your Autumn trip to one of our beautiful countries.

Another great thing about Autumn, is that you can participate in the berry and mushroom picking! Head out there into the wild, and collect blueberries, chanterelle mushrooms and if you're lucky you might even spot a cloudberry or two.

NORTHERN SCANDINAVIA THROUGHOUT THE SEASONS

The North of Scandinavia (especially Swedish and Finnish Lapland) is one of the more unique and special places you can visit on this planet. There is truly no bad season to visit, because each time of the year JANA'S TOP TIP! showcases another side of this everchanging landcape.

My personal tip, is to visit a place in two different seasons if you have ONLY FOR THE BRAVE the chance. ENDLESS DAYS During the summer months (May to August), the sun does not completely set. This is the famously called the Midnight Sun. It is a natural phenomenon also known as the Polar day when the sun is fully visible over the horizon at 00:00h. Due to this, summer days become endless and life slows down.

At the northernmost parts of Finland for example, the sun remains up for 60 days straight. In Svalbard, Norway, there is no sunset from April 19th to August 23rd, and this is one of the most uninhabited regions in Europe.

The North Cape of Norway is the northernmost point in mainland Europe and the Midnight Sun lasts for 76 days. Also, the best (and most romantic!) locations to see the "no sunsets" are on the west coast of Norway, in the Arctic Circle.

SPOT THE LOCAL WILDLIFE Scandinavia is the territory where a number of big majestic beasts live. The indisputable king of the Scandi forest is the moose, which happily greets respectful hikers in Sweden, Norway and Finland. The same with reindeer, which can be found eating moss and berries before the winter returns in the far north. They're precious animals to the Sami community.

Around the Dovre National Park in Norway, you can go on a guided hike to spot the magnificent musk ox. This impressive creature is a symbol of strength for the country. On the other hand, Finland, close to the Russian border, is the perfect destination to lodge a few nights and wait safely to come across a brown bear.

On the island of Svalbard, taking a boat trip close to the shore can result in the experience of a lifetime, if you're are lucky enough to spot a polar bear. Off the coast, whales and orcas love to come close to tourist boats to show off their tails and pose for a perfect picture.

Also, not so much beasts but still majestic are the sea eagles, which are eager for a snack in the fjords, and puffins that fly around the Icelandic coast. INSIDER GUIDE

Marta Aizpurua, one of our Sales & Operations Consultants, talks about the magical Scandinavian summer: Scandinavia in summer is truly a paradise: Endless days basked in the light of the Midnight Sun and festivals like Swedish Midsummer are some of the truly unforgettable memories you'll take home. Breathtaking fjords, windy roads that are itching to be explored, and an abundance of wildlife are lying at your feet! So, what are you waiting for?

COMBINE TOURS As a team of experienced incoming agents in Scandinavia, we are able to help with your client's needs. One of our top recommendations is to combine tours and make the most out of your visit to the north of Europe. The cosmopolitan Nordic capitals and the Norwegian fjords are the most popular destinations during summer. However, you can't miss the opportunity of checking out the sunny Arctic North while here.

Just choose two of our tours, and we will combine and adapt them for you. My personal favourite combination: Historical Fjords exclusive & The Lofoten and Vesterålen

MARTA'S TOP TIPS!

Whether you're craving an adrenaline kick or if you're looking for a relaxing getaway - you'll find it all in Scandinavia. And Summer is one of the best seasons to do it.

Historically, life in the fjord valleys used to be very isolated. That was until new ways of transportation other than by boat arrived and with them, visitors interested in the fjord way of living. In the valleys, serenity is the main feeling. It is the perfect destination to disconnect and truly recover. Locals here always had to produce their own goods and look after their farms to be able to survive, and this is still the case, most things are still locally sourced and made. It can't get any more sustainable than this!

ACTIVITIES

Winter provides some of the very best activities! Whether you're into snowshoeing, snowmobiling or an Aurora dinner cruise, Scandinavia has got it covered. INSIDER GUIDE Julia Leiter, one of our Sales & Operations Consultants, discusses her favourite season, the arctic winter: Freezing temperatures, endless snow-covered landscapes, and the spirit of the Northern Lights: Welcome to the Scandinavian winter wonderland! Pack your thickest coat, woollen underwear, and cosiest socks to experience this extreme season. In my opinion, it's one of the best times to visit!

ARCTIC ACTIVITIES

Winter provides Scandinavia with an array of unique activities that simply cannot be left off your itinerary! These activities are the absolute best ways to immerse yourself in Scandinavian culture. Discover your inner polar explorer as you speed over forest paths and frozen lakes on the back of a husky sledge! There's really nothing quite like the feeling of driving your own sledge and being a dog musher. If you don't feel comfortable with that, worry not, as you can enjoy the ride sitting on the sledge as well. The husky teams can reach speeds of up to 30km/h, but a much calmer experience awaits you in a reindeer sledge. Marvel at the breathtaking scenery while sitting in a cosy chair wrapped in fur. If you've got the need for speed, do not miss out on a snowmobile ride.

My personal tip is Electric Snowmobiling in Finnish Lapland, where you can enjoy your ride without the smell of gasoline or the loud noise of the motor. Bonus: You're also not disturbing any wildlife, and you might even get lucky and spot wild reindeer or a moose on your way!

LIFE IN DARKNESS

Life during the Scandinavian winter is shaped by the seemingly endless hours of darkness.

This unique atmosphere reveals the calm and mystery in all of our JULIA'S TOP TIPS unique winter destinations. It might take some time to get used to the new schedule - but believe me, once you are, you will appreciate the long nights that are filled with cosiness, hot drinks next to the bonfire, HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR HOLIDAY and some amazing activities. Make sure your sightseeing aligns with the small hours of daylight, so you get the most out of your trip. Combine your Northern Lights hunt with one or two activities. Northern Lights can never be guaranteed but fun The darkness also unveils the stunning (and very famous) natural and excitement can! Two of my favourite tours are Meet phenomenon: the Northern Lights. Scandinavian winter is filled with Rovaniemi and Alta Borealis! unexpected surprises that will never fail to amaze you.

PEEK INTO MY SUITCASE Some key items that I always have in my luggage when I pack for an arctic adventure are woollen underwear and socks, an extra SD card for my camera, a good pair of boots, and my thermos that I can fill with tea.

Rovaniemi is officially Santa's home base. And this is clear from the moment CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS IN SCANDINAVIA your plane touches the tarmac. All the Scandinavian countries have different festive traditions. Let's dive into some of them: Enjoy the most special Christmas with Santa, who will let you in on all his secrets. You might not see Rudolph and NORWAY - GOD JUL his red nose, but you can hop on a reindeer sledge and let them pull you Are you ready for Juletiden? Make yourself cosy and enjoy the through an arctic winter wonderland. Christmas period, while the children are impatiently waiting for Julenisse (Santa Claus)! The streets are filled with charming Christmas Is there a better way to spend markets and small Christmas nisser (mythical kobolds). Christmas? Risengrynsgrøt, a sort of rice pudding, is prepared for lunch on Christmas Day. There are even some families who leave a portion of risengrynsgrøt outside their door so the barn gnome, a nisse, has something to eat on Christmas as well. Traditionally, Norwegians serve ribbe (pork ribs or pork belly), lutefisk (cured cod), or pinnekjøtt (dry- cured lamb ribs) for Christmas dinner. Many Norwegians allow themselves to have a juleøl, a malty beer that is sold from November onwards. God Jul!

SWEDEN - GOD JUL Christmas is certainly a very special time in Sweden. On December 13th, you may see thousands of young Swedish girls dressed in long white gowns. Their hair will be decorated with a wreath of glowing candles, and each will hold a lit candle in their hand. Accompanied by sweet chants from children dressed as gingerbread men, elves, or stjärngossar, the so-called Lucia's wandering from house to house to give out saffron buns. On Christmas Eve, Swedes prepare the Smörgåsbord, a buffet offering all traditional Christmas dishes. These are, for example, Christmas ham, pork sausage, Gubbröra (egg and anchovy mixture), several types of fish, and Vörtbröd (rye bread). God Jul!

FINLAND - HYVÄÄ JOULUA! Welcome to the country that has declared itself to be the official hometown of Joulupukki - Santa Claus! High above the Arctic Circle, you find his official residence where you can visit him and his elves all year round. On Christmas Day, however, Santa is a busy man and brings presents to children all across the country. In the meantime, Finns enjoy the day by decorating the Christmas tree and by taking a traditional Christmas sauna. It's traditional to have porridge with a hidden almond inside. The person who gets it is considered to be the luckiest one on the table - and has to sing a song. Traditionally, Finns serve Christmas ham, rosolli salad (beetroot), and joulutorttu (pastries) for Christmas dinner. Hyvää Joulua!

DENMARK - GLÆDELIG JUL! The Christmas period in Denmark starts with the advent wreath, which consists of four candles. One candle is lit every Sunday in December. Typically, Danes serve duck or pork for Christmas dinner, accompanied with boiled or caramelized potatoes, brown sauce, and pickled red cabbage. When it comes to the dessert, prepare yourself for something rather extravagant: Ris á l’Amande. This famous Danish invention consists of creamy rice pudding with vanilla and almond slices, all topped with a delicious hot cherry sauce. But be attentive: only one bowl has a whole almond inside. The lucky one who finds it gets a prize! Before opening the presents, however, the whole family gets together to dance around the Christmas tree while singing traditional Christmas songs. Glædelig jul! INSIDER GUIDE Quentin Dessant, one of our Sales & Operations Consultants, discusses the festive season in Scandinavia: It is a special time in the whole world, but the festive season really comes to life in Scandinavia. Where else can you visit Santa at home and have green lights dancing above your head while you eat Christmas cookies?

NEW YEAR'S EVE IN THE NORTH Whereas the Christmas traditions might vary across the countries, there is one thing they all love on New Year’s Eve: fireworks! Enjoy the last moments of the year surrounded by fresh air before clinking glasses and saying cheers to the New Year!

One of my favourite tours is "New Year in the Fjords", which leads you through the amazing fjord scenery in southern Norway. You get to spend New Year's Eve in Flam - a true paradise!

QUENTIN'S TOP TIPS

FUN IN THE SNOW

The best thing about winter? The snow, of course! There's an abundance of activities that you can do in the white wonderland! My personal favourite? Snowshoeing! There's no better way to hike in winter, and it is truly one of the most magnificent things when you arrive on top and see the view.

CHASE THE AURORA You can't miss out on the thrill of trying to get a glimpse of the green lady! And if you do find her, it's better than New Year's Eve fireworks! I recommend doing an Aurora Hunt, where expert guides lead you to the top spots, and you can enjoy the Northern Lights without having to worry about driving through the snow!

CHRISTMAS IN ICELAND There are several Christmas figures around the world: We are most likely all familiar with our dearest Santa Claus and his helping elves. Icelandic mythology takes this to the next level. Have you ever heard about the 13 Yule Lads? Living in a mountain cave together with their parents Grýla and Leppalúði and the Christmas cat, they come down the mountain one by one between the 12th and 24th December. Back in town, their mission is to

find and fill the shoes of children that were put on the window shelves before going to sleep. On December 23rd, Icelanders gather to eat Skötuveislur, fermented skate. On Christmas Eve, families make laufabrauð, a bread with leaflike decoration. This is served during the Christmas dinner, which typically consists of hangikjöt (smoked lamb), rjúpa (rock ptarmigan), or hamborgarhryggur (glazed rack Quentin Dessant of ham). Gleðileg jól!
