GENERAL INFORMATION OF THE COUNTRY Official Name: Republic of Peru Area (Km): 1.285.216,20 km2 Coastline (km): 3080 km4 Location: It is a country in the West of South America. The Pacific Ocean borders its coast and borders Ecuador and Colombia to the North, Brazil to the East, and Bolivia and Chile to the Southeast. CaPital: Lima is the capital and the largest city in Peru. It is in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, in the central part of the Peruvian coast, with views of the Pacific Ocean. Together with the seaport of El Callao, it forms an adjoining urban area known as the Metropolitan Region of Lima. With a population of almost 12 million approx. (2017), Lima is the most populous metropolitan region in Peru and the third largest city in Latin America (behind São Paulo and Mexico City). Weather: The climate is temperate subtropical. The average annual temperature is 18.5 to 19°C, with an annual maximum of approximately 29°C. In winter, from June to September, temperatures vary between 12 and 19°C. The lowest temperature recorded historically is 5°C. Spring has temperatures between 17 and 23°C. Its climate is characterized by the absence of rain, with a high level of humidity and persistent clouds cover. Work Plan – 2018 Trampoline Gymnastics Senior Pan American Championships 4 Exchanges houses: In Lima, the Miraflores neighborhood is full of money exchange houses, as it is the neighborhood where most tourists prefer to stay. It is in Av. Jose Larco where good part of them are located, for that reason there is not much variation in the quotes there. The famous Larcomar Shopping is located in this avenue. We also have other recommended exchange houses at Av. Canaval y Moreyra 223, San Isidro and San Felipe Residencial, Jesús María (passing the Japanese Peruvian Theater). Capital Exchange Exchange Houses – Miraflores (Av. José Pardo) Tourist places to visit: Plaza de Armas, Catedral de Lima, Plaza de San Martín, Mirador at the Hotel Bolívar, Miraflores, Parque del Amor, Distrito de Barranco. Plaza de Armas de Lima – Lima’s Center Work Plan – 2018 Trampoline Gymnastics Senior Pan American Championships 5 Larcomar - Miraflores Finance Center – San Isidro Jockey Plaza Shopping Center - Surco Parque del Amor - Miraflores PoPulation: 32.162.184 habitantes. Languages: The official language is Spanish, but other different native languages are also spoken, such as Quechua and Aymara. Work Plan – 2018 Trampoline Gymnastics Senior Pan American Championships 6 Weather: Unlike other equatorial countries, Peru does not have an exclusive tropical climate; the influence of the Andes and the Humboldt currents grant a great climatic diversity to the Peruvian territory. Currently, in the city of Lima we are in the winter season, so temperatures range between 14° (min.) And 18° (max.). It is recommended to come with comfortable clothes, coats and various garments that can protect the routine changes of temperature for the athletes. Geography: The country is located in the intertropical zone of South America between the Line of Ecuador and the Tropic of Capricorn. It is the twentieth largest country in size on Earth and the third in South America. It has an enormous multiplicity of landscapes due to its geographical conditions: the valleys, the plateaus and the high peaks of the Andes unfold to the West towards the desert coast and East towards the Amazon. It is one of the countries with the greatest biological diversity and largest mineral resources in the world. The country has fifty-four hydrographic basins, most of the Peruvian rivers drain from the Andes to one of the three hydrographic slopes of the country. In one of these basins is born the giant Amazon River, which, with its 6872 km, is the longest and mightiest river in the world. Peru contains 4% of the planet's fresh water. Gastronomy: Peru is one of the countries with the best gastronomic menu worldwide. From various dishes recognized by chefs, world cuisine and gastronomy committees to professional chefs such as Gastón Acurio, Javier Wong, among others, who are part of our impressive poster as one of the main weapons our country offers to the whole world. Taking as examples some typical dishes such as ceviche, arroz con pollo (rice on chicken), pollo a la Brasa (grilled chicken), also counting on Chinese, Japanese and African fusions in various dishes such as arroz chaufa (peruvian fried rice), anticucho de res (marinated meat in a special seasoning based on ají panca (peruvian red pepper), skewered on a cane stick and grilled) and the famous makis. And ending with some of the most delicious desserts of Peruvian culinary culture such as mazamorra morada (the base of purple corn), arroz zambito (rice with brown milk) and refresco bandera, the chica morada (soda). Work Plan – 2018 Trampoline Gymnastics Senior Pan American Championships 7 Currency: The official currency is the Nuevo Sol (New Sun), but, it is customary to speak Soles instead of nuevos Soles. Exchange rate of the US dollar: PEN 3.27 x USD $ 1 (the rate varies according to the day). This is a country where the economy favors tourists with US dollars, which is also the easiest currency to exchange in banks and exchange houses. The tickets must be in good condition, without stains, clean and whole. As a main recomendation, change your money always in the exchange houses. They may seem strange and improvised, we know, but that's the way they are. Plaques saying "Money Exchange" usually show the places exchanging money and your hotel or guide can also indicate good places for that purpose. The quotation in the big centers changes very little from one exchange house to another, something of 1 or 2 cents of new sun. Therefore, even if you do not get the ideal quote, you should not lose more than 1 or 2 soles per 100 dollars. Before making the change, always ask if the house applies an additional rate on the final value. At the airport it is normal, but outside, this rate is usually not charged. Exchange bureaus are usually open at least from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week and a good part of them are open on weekends as well. It's strange, but as a security measure, some exchange houses seal the notes before delivering to customers. The seal is small and does not interfere with anything, it only guarantees that the note is true and that the change was made by them. Even the Nuevo Sol being the currency of Peru, some tourist places can accept Dollars as a form of payment.

I am sincerely greeting all the participants and guests of great gymnastics festival. The capital of Azerbaijan, our native and hospitable Baku opens its doors to the participants of the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics. It is not the first time when Azerbaijan hosts prestigious international sports events. Warmth and hospitality of our people, multiculturalism and tolerance peculiar to us, enabled our country to become sports capital of the whole region. A leadership of Azerbaijan gives all possible support for the development of sports and physical culture, international sports and Olympic movement. A new stage has commenced in history of Azerbaijani gymnastics since 2002 and this harmonious sports discipline got a new development impetus. 2003 remained in our memories as the year when the first World Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics was held in Baku. The World Cup series were organized in Azerbaijan for three years in a row. Already in 2005, the strongest gymnasts of the planet - the participants of the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships gathered in Baku. This event became the first World Championships in Olympic sport discipline not only in Azerbaijan but on the whole region. In 2007, 2009 and 2014, Azerbaijan hosted new major competitions – the European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics. In 2015, the events in 6 gymnastics disciplines took place within the framework of the 1st European Games.

  • Sports News Roundup November 03
Sports News Roundup November 03 Baseball Baseball can help in the relations between the US and Cuba, said Ben Rhodes, Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications in Barack Obama's administration . Quoted by The New York Times, the senior official said there is much support for that sport be part of the opening between the US and Cuba, although the persistence of the economic, financial and commercial blockade is a serious obstacle to be eliminated by the US Congress. Baseball is a revered institution in both countries, and to the extent that the bonds between the two peoples and deepened rebuilding bridges grow, Major League Baseball has a key role. According to the Times, the Obama administration and the MLB work to create a completely new system to facilitate exchanges and contracts for Cuban players who would not be obliged to leave their country, the Cuban agency Prensa Latina highlights. In that sense, the paper said contacts in New York between a Major League attorney, Dan Halem, and Cuban officials to express interest in reforming the existing regulations in the sport. He added that several American executives also traveled to Cuba last October to examine the fields and other facilities and determine if MLB players can play in Cuba next Spring. The New York daily noted that baseball and the Obama administration will have to overcome a maze of rules and procedures, which would be finally paved if Congress removes the blockade laws. In recent weeks, the Times said, MLB, supported by the White House, requested a license to do business with Cuba through the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Treasury, an agency responsible for enforcing sanctions imposed by the U.S.

Dr. James Naismith, the creator of basketball, participated. The first exhibition Homeshow, an exhibition show that took place after the team put on shows in other communities around the Northeast, took place in May of 1905. The touring and the Homeshow is a tradition that continues throughout the history of the Springfield College Gymnastics team. The first full-time Varsity Men’s Gymnastics coach was Louis C. Schroeder (class of 1912), in 1915. Schroeder was succeeded five years later, in 1921, by Leslie J. Judd; a position he held until 1956. Judd is widely considered a father of modern Gymnastics. Under his leadership, the varsity gymnastics team attained international fame. Perhaps the greatest contribution Coach Judd made to the team was the world-famous Living Statuary of Youth or the Tableaux. Women’s gymnastics became an intercollegiate team in the 1963-64 school year, and was coached by Diane Potter.
