King is noted for her 39 Grand Slam titles, including 12 singles, 16 women’s doubles and 11 mixed doubles, and her victory over Bobby Riggs in the Battle of the Sexes match in 1973. King helped form the Women’s Tennis Association and has campaigned tirelessly for equal prize money for female players. She is an advocate for gender equality and social justice. The Windy City Open Women’s Leadership Luncheon celebrates and promotes influential women squash players and athletes who are leaders in all facets of their professional and athletic lives.
