A party where Capote spent $16,000. What if you threw a party and everybody came? That is exactly what happened when 540 of Capote’s nearest and dearest showed up at the Grand Ballroom of New York’s Plaza Hotel. Let’s make that happen again, 50 years later, at the grand Cathedral Hall of the University Club, on Friday, April 21. Club members will join Marines, sailors, and civilian significant others at a reception in the Library at 6 p.m., and dinner in Cathedral Hall at 7 p.m. Mess Night is a long-cherished tradition in which members of a military unit gather to salute each other, the unit and recent actions. A light- hearted side of the event will be on view when military personnel are cited for violating the Rules of the Mess. Mess Night is the perfect opportunity for Club members to show their appreciation in person to the Marines, the sailors and their significant others. In a more tangible manner, the Club asks members to further exhibit their appreciation by sponsoring two or more military personnel.
