Since 2002, the RSLC has been electing candidates to the office of lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state and state legislator. The RLCC has a strong track record of success in targeting resources to help build and grow Republican legislative majorities in all fifty states. In the 113th Congress, more than half of the members of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate got their start as state-level leaders. FUTURE MAJORITY PROJECT U.S. HOUSE U.S. SENATE The Future Majority Project (FMP) seeks to recruit, train and support candidates that better reflect the full diversity of America. We have exceeded FMP goals for 2014 by identifying 200 first-time candidates from diverse backgrounds and 300 new women candidates as part of the ‘Right Women, Right Now’ initiative. FMP will support these men and women as they run to grow the economy, support job creators and focus on ways to keep more money in the pockets of working families. The Future Majority Project is co-chaired by Governors Susana Martinez (NM) and Brian Sandoval (NV).     The People Shaping the Trump Administration Despite Running on a Pledge to ‘Drain the Swamp’ and Crack Down on Special Interests, Donald Trump Has Filled His Transition Team With Lobbyists and Others With Potential Conflicts November 16, 2016 – Donald Trump rode to the White House by raging about alleged rampant corruption in Washington and pledging to “drain the swamp.” Each of the five points in the ethics platform he issued in October focused on diminishing the influence of lobbyists.1 These included a promise to impose a five-year ban on former executive branch officials lobbying the federal government. Trump further promised to crack down on special interest-influence by expanding the definition of lobbyist to include consultants and others who trade on inside government information and expertise.2 But Trump’s nascent transition team, which will shape his administration, is swarming with lobbyists and other special interests. Many of the lobbyists are working for the transition on areas for which they currently are lobbying the federal government. Meanwhile, many of those who aren’t lobbyists appear to have potential conflicts of interest. Vice president-elect Mike Pence reportedly said on November 15 that the transition team would be purged of lobbyists, but the transition team has not made the point official.3 Even if true, that remedy would not address cases such as a defense contractor working on defense interests, or a lawyer for health care interests working on health care reform.     2018-02-27 JOHN C. OLIVER Eric Lidji: Today is February 26, 2018. I’m Eric Lidji with Linda Boxx and we are interviewing John Oliver at his office, downtown. One of the first things that we’ve talked to people about is trying to get a sense of their interest in the outdoors generally because it does seem like a lot of people came to this project with a love of the outdoors. So, I was wondering if you could start by talking just a little bit about, maybe, your childhood in terms of hunting, fishing, being outdoors, biking, any of those sorts of things. John C. Oliver: Well, I’ve been an outdoors person as long as I can remember. Both my parents were and- so in all aspects of the outdoors, that’s my passion, whether it’s hunting, fishing, or camping, or canoeing, or, in the old days, white water rafting. It’s what I enjoy most of all in life. Eric Lidji: Did you enjoy on this side of the state? John C. Oliver: Yes, I grew up about 15 miles north of here. I went away to school – college – and the service, but other than that, I’ve been here. Eric Lidji: So, is that how you ended up at the Conservancy? John C. Oliver: Yeah. In 1970, I heard about the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, and through some friends, I was able to get a job. Despite an unfavorable national outcome of the 2012 election, one thing remains absolutely clear: Pennsylvania is very much a Red State. Whether it’s measuring critical wins at the Con- gressional or State Legislative level, or the fact that we made more voter contacts than the 2004 and 2008 elections combined, it’s clear that our record-breaking grassroots campaign made the difference in very close races. Our work is far from over. As we prepare for the 2013 and 2014 elections, we must continue grow- ing our Party to remain on the cutting edge of political, communication and finance strategy. We will continue to identify and recruit qualified candidates and run aggressive campaigns to help them achieve victory.
