[email protected] PREFACE 1 PREFACE During the late 1950's Yuri Verkoshansky was an unknown young coach and great admirer of Vladimir Dyachkov. Dr. Dyach- kov authored the first scientifically based training principles for the jumping events. In addition, he is also credited as the first to use weight training exercises in the prepara- tion of high jumpers1.
