It has been 30 years since the Car Of The Year was born under the wings of GPI. The main concept of this event is to create the trend among society that automobile is a tangible matter for Thai people and to build awareness of automobile world. Car Of The Year has been travelling to its 11th year of the annual event. The concept was to promote Thailand automotive industry which consists of car parts industry, automotive assembly industry and other automotive related industry in order to elevate the quality to the world class standard and is reliable in the international environment as the perfect automobile production hub for Export. And to fulfill all segments of the motoring industry, the committee agreed to have an additional event which is the Bike Of The Year for the first time. However, if we look back at the earlier stage, GPI had presented the Car Of The Year award alongside with the Bike Of The Year award in 1981 and 1982 at the New IMPERIAL HOTEL, before GPI brought it back this year after a long suspended time. At the time, the Bike Of The Year was honorary presided over by General Chatchai Choonhavan, the Minister of the Ministry of Industry for the 2 consecutive years. It is already known that the Bike Of The Year was born under the good collaboration work among Grand Prix International Company Limited and other well-recognized organizations in the society namely the Society of Automotive Engineer-Thailand, the Thai Automotive Journalists Association and the Royal Automobile Association of Thailand (RATT).

Bike Of The Year 2010 marked the 2nd anniversary of the test ride event in finding Thailand’s best motorcycle. All motorcycle media had united together before agreed to divide the test into 2 sessions which are the Theoretical Session and the Test Ride Session. The Theoretical Session; each individual motorcycle will be judged based on its specification by the technical test team including faculty of teachers who are the master in motoring business. The judging criteria are based on the following topics namely performance, safety, equipment and special technique along with the environmental concern which is of interesting worldwide. For the Test Ride Session; GPI receives a good collaboration from various motorcycle business columnists and test riders. In order to rotate the test bikes equally during the execution of the test ride, these test riders are divided into a group of 4 persons each. This helps the scoring result to be at the highest accuracy possible. On behalf of the core organizer, Grand Prix International Company Limited has picked the Kangkrajan Circuit, Petchburi province as the test venue. There are two main stations to grab the most out of each bike. Those stations are determined to see how well the bike performs which includes acceleration test, handling test, nimbleness test, suspension test and braking test. An additional score will be given for the design as well. After the test of all 22 models is finished, each test rider group will have a meeting before submitting the scorecard to the central referees, which of course every step is being taken with honesty.

Once both tests from the Theoretical Session and the Test Ride Session are completed, the expert referees will combine the score acquired from both sessions and solve out for the Bike Of The Year. You can check the result on the next page. The result will be officially announced at the 31st Bangkok International Motor Show.

To stimulate the development of new product and technology for the utmost benefit of the consumer. 3. To create a database on new technology and product development for the sake of consumer in the motorcycle industry. 4. To promote and support the marketing business of the domestic motorcycle industry. 5. To promote and support the domestic motorcycle industry for export.

Judging Criteria The Bike Of The Year 2010 awards are judged accordingly to the specific motorcycle segmentation including domestic production for the local market and domestic production for export from January 1 – December 31, 2009. Thailand’s two wheels media reinforced to rate the greatest motorcycle for the event of the “Bike Of The Year”. This was another big project that gather Thailand’s motorcycle media co-organized with the big bro of motoring media, GPI Group for the 4th consecutive year of the Bike Of The Year 2012. The goal of the event is as usual, to promote Thailand industry and domestic entrepreneurs. Thank to the major Japanese brands for enthusiastically sending their bikes to the contest. This year was more special since a Chinese manufacturer had registered its products to the proving ground of Bangkok Racing Circuit, allowing the test riders to twist their wrist and rev the engine at no limit, making the activity even livelier.

GPI together with various motorcycle media organized the mighty Bike Of The Year and guarantee its ultimate performance. !!! This is one of the events that brought “two wheels” media to get together once a year in order to hand out an award to the makers of their supreme motorcycles under the name of Thailand Bike Of The Year. Grand Prix International Company Limited, as the leader in automotive media was still the main organizer of this 5th anniversary event. The Bonanza International Speedway was selected as the venue for this year’s test. Meanwhile, the committee agreed to register two additional awards in order to go in line with the market growth at that time. Thailand Bike of The Year, under the management of Grand Prix International Public Company Limited, was held consecutively for 8 years in a good collaboration with over 25 companies of motorcycle media, and the qualified committee of the automotive industry who gathered together and brainstormed their knowledges and proficiencies to find out the best motorcycles of each category. The objectives of the event were to support the Thailand motorcycle industry to develop products and technologies further to the world-class level, to boost up the growth in the motorcycle market, and to give the utmost benefits to the consumers on making a decision on buying motorcycles. The significant judging criterion covers performance, convenience, design, safety, environmental concern, and worthiness.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Before justifying, the committee and all concern parties had held the conference in order to rearrange the award titles to match with changes in market condition, and to find representatives of the committee who responsible for scoring. The award titles were altered to be in accordance with the market conditions and the consumer behavior which gaining more interest in Big Bikes. As a consensus, the committee agreed to add four more award titles for the Big Bikes as follows;

The additional award title for motorcycles manufactured in the country was Best Sport Bike Under 150 cc, which received a lot of attention from consumers, as well as, the big bikes which getting more popular and being provided with more choices. Thus, the award titles for Big Bikes were changed to Best Big Bike Under 500 cc. and Best Big Bike Over 500 cc. On the other hand, the Best Import Bike Under 1000 cc. award was removed in order to tally with the new titles which were added. In order to build up trust and reliance in the dignified awards, the organizer had held the technical training for the referees. The event was received a kind cooperation from the automakers, which sent their cars and technique instructors to provide the knowledges for the referees. To sum up, there were seven companies participating in this event, and total 46 motorcycles were sent to compete. The scoring and testing was taken place at the Bira Kart Circuit, Pattaya. The referees of the technical term, the test riders, and the press members served as witnesses observing the test. We received a kind cooperation from the professional safety driving instructor “Mr. Ho” Chartchai Sae- Lim, who was in charge of security control throughout the event.

Here marked another year in the history of the Thailand motorcycle industry with Thailand Bike of The Year 2017, which is an annual event to find out the best bikes with the best performance of the year. This time was the 9th consecutive year that the event was held, and still received a good cooperation from the qualified committee in the motorcycle industry, the media, and the professional test riders who responsible for justifying and scoring. Under the support of Grand Prix International Public Company Limited, the leading automotive media company, Motorcycle Magazine was in charge to organize the event with the ultimate goal to promote the Thailand automotive industry, covering the areas of car parts industry, automotive assembly industry and other automotive related industry in order to elevate the quality to meet the world class standard and be widely accepted in the international environment. JUDGING CRITERIA

For Thailand Bike of The Year 2017, the organizer selected Pathum Thani Speedway, Pathum Thani as a venue to test and find out the bikes with the highest capacities from the nine leading automakers, which sent over 60 vehicles to compete. The judging criteria were based on the following topics, namely performance, engine, suspension system, brake system, and special technologies, which represent the real capabilities of each bike. Besides, the additional criteria such as response on everyday use and convenience were used to justify in order to prove that every awarded bike is truly the most worthy motorcycle for consumers Moreover, to update the award titles to go in line with the current market situation and the changes of consumer demands, according to the ages, the organizer and the qualified committee agreed to divide the awards into two main categories, which is Small Bike, consisting of family bike, automatic bike and mini bike, and another category Big Bike, which getting bigger in the market. As a consensus, this year’s event was provided with honorable awards for each category of bike, classified by vehicle type, usage, and size of displacement, total 29 awards, as follows;

Thailand Bike of The Year 2018 is regarded as another big annual event organized by Grand Prix International Public Company in order to find out the best bike of the year, and aim to promote the Thailand automotive industry and provide the information for consumers across the country. This year marked the 10th time in a row. The organizer continued to upgrade the judging criteria to be suitable and go in line with the objectives of the event which was to grant the awards to the most worthy bikes. This year, the organizer invited the qualified committee in the automotive industry, the motorcycle media who have competence in riding from various magazines and online channels, and also the professional test riders to take part in the scoring process. Besides, to make the awards go in line with the current market and the demand of consumers, which change over times, the organizer and the committee agreed to categorize the awards into two groups, namely Small Bike (e.g., family bike, automatic bike, and mini bike), and Big Bike, which was continuing to grow in the market. As a consensus, the latest event was provided with valuable prizes for motorcycles of each category, divided by type, usage and displacement total 28 prizes, as follows;

Motorcycle Magazine on behalf of Grand Prix International Public Company Limited has organized the Thailand Bike of The Year in order to seek for the best motorcycles of the year for manufacturers and dealers of motorcycles in the Thai market. It was open for the manufacturers and the dealers to send their vehicles to compete in each award title. The awards are divided into two main categories, including; 1. Small bike 2. Big bike The award categories are classified based on the vehicle type and usability.

REGULATION 1. The motorcycles being sent to be justified can be either local-manufactured or imported; however, they must be introduced and marketed in Thailand within 2018. 2. The manufacturers must send one motorcycle to test ride, which it must be in a perfect condition for riding. In case the motorcycle is not in such condition, or considered by the organizer that it may cause danger to the committee or the test riders, the organizer reserves the right to disqualify the abovementioned motorcycle in the scoring process. 3. In one award title, the manufacturers can send more than one model to compete. 4. One motorcycle model can be competed in only one award title.

JUDGING CRITERIA

The score is accumulated from the test riders and the automotive media, which are divided into two groups as follows; 1. Technical referees 2. Test riders The score will be concluded to find out the motorcycle that receiving the highest point in each award title. In case there is only one model participating, the award will be given by the committee only if the motorcycle acquires over 80 percent of the final score.

Thailand Bike of The Year 2020 The Highest Standard Motorcycle Contest Of Thailand Set Out To Get On Wheels And Test… To Seek For The Best Bike of The Year Thailand Bike of The Year is the highest standard motorcycle contest of Thailand, which has been greatly recognized by automotive manufacturers and the general public. Under the support from Grand Prix International Public Company Limited, “Motorcycle Magazine” is responsible for organizing the event for 12 years consecutively. This year, Thailand Bike of The Year 2020 was held from December 17 to 18, 2019 at the “BIRA Kart” circuit in Pattaya, Chonburi Province. There are eight leading motorcycle manufacturers of Thailand, including the Big 4 brands from Japan, Europe and China, sending their motorcycles to participate in the contest. The total number of participating motorcycles are 70 units, including general bikes and big bikes that cover various usages.
