Despite ample publicity, the turnout was disappointing — only twenty people came out. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor were there, as were Councillors Tom Boyle and Griffin Salen and several members of staff. About half of the Rotary Club was in attendance plus a smattering of local musicians and thespians. The general public was conspicuously absent. The proposed plans for the building were unveiled by Municipal CAO Bill Jones and Architect Grant Diemert (of G.M. Diemert Architect Inc). The highlights of the proposal include extending the building’s main floor out to the edge of the sidewalk and constructing a single- storey addition along the south side of the building from the sidewalk to beyond the existing east wall. The benefits of the proposal include: • increasing the hall’s capacity from 150 to approximately 185. • adding a main floor kitchen and bar. • adding much more washroom capacity. Everyone who attended was in favour of upgrading the hall. There were, however, some questions about the project and some quibbles about the floor plans. Actors, musicians and Deputy Mayor Patricia Greig all suggested that the washrooms should be located as far as Photo: Architect Glen Diemert’s rendering of the proposed streetfront of the Rotary Hall in Lion’s Head.
