FromThe Internet: What is a Grandma submitted by Vivian Frank A grandmother is a lady who has no children of her own, so she likes other people’s little girls. A grandfather is a man grandmother. He goes for walks with boys and they talk fishing and things like that. Grandmas don’t have anything to do except be there. It is enough if they drive us to the supermarket where the pretend horse is and have lots of dimes ready. Or if they take us for walks, they should slow down past pretty houses and cater- pillars. They should never say "hurry up". Usually they wear glasses and they can take their teeth and gums off. It is better if they don’t typewrite or play cards except with us. They don’t have to be smart, only answer questions like why dogs hate cats. They don’t talk visitors’ talk like visitors do, because it is hard to understand. When they read to us they don’t skip words or mind it if it is the same story again. Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don’t have a television because grandmas are the only grown ups who have got time. By an 8 year old.

From the Internet: Put the Glass Down A lecturer was giving a lecture to his student on stress management. He raised a glass of water and asked the audience, "How heavy do you think this glass of water is?" The students' answers ranged from 20g to 500g. "It does not matter on the absolute weight. It depends on how long you hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it is OK. If I hold it for an hour, I will have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you will have to call an ambulance. It is the exact same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes" "If we carry our bur- dens all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on, the burden becoming increasingly heavier." "What you have to do is to put the glass down, rest for a while before holding it up again." We have to put down the burden periodically, so that we can be refreshed and are able to carry on. Whatever burdens you are having now on your shoulders, let it down for a moment if you can.

Prayer to the B.V.M.Against Falling submitted by Sheila Barry Take my hand, O Blessed Mother, hold it firmly lest I fall. I grow nervous walking and humbly on thee call. Guide me at each crossing, watch me on the stair. Let me know you’re beside me, listen to my fervent prayer. Bring me to my destination, safely all the way. Bless my every undertaking and my duties for today. And when evening draws upon me, I’ll not fear to be alone. Once again, O Blessed Mother, take my hand and lead me home. This is especially poignant for me this year, as I am also preparing for ordained priestly ministry. I am growing in knowledge, as my thesis and course- work proceed on track, but am I growing in holi- ness? This is a difficult but necessary question to ask, for it is not merely an admirable quality in a priest, but an indispensable one. I am also preparing for military ministry, in that I will be serving for one week in December at MacDill AFB in Tampa as a chaplain candidate for the last time before being re-commissioned as a reserve chaplain later next year (after ordination to priest- hood).
