On December 7-10, 2016, the Japanese Anti-Doping Agency JADA hosts the 10th Anniversary of the International Anti-Doping Seminar in Asia and Oceania On December 7-10, 2016, the Japanese Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) hosted the 10th anniversary of the annual International Anti-Doping Seminar in Asia and Oceania: “PLAY TRUE 2020 Week” in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in partnership with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and with support from the Japan Sports Agency and the Government of Japan. This year’s venue, Sapporo, was the host city of 1972 Winter Olympic Games and 2017 Asian Winter Games. Over 60 participants from 31 countries, mainly from the Asia-Oceania anti-doping community, took part in the seminar, as did Athlete Committee members from WADA, the Asia Paralympic Committee (APC), and JADA. The theme of the seminar focused on the World Anti-Doping Code Monitoring and Partnership to Quality Practice, as well as “Leaders of Tomorrow” in which athletes and youth engaged to promote and develop the values of sport. WADA presented on a number of key topics including compliance and monitoring programs, as well as intelligence and investigations. In addition, Athlete Committee members from WADA, JADA, and APC shared their experiences with anti-doping activities and offered opinions on clean sport during presentations and panel discussions. Afterwards, participants broke into groups to discuss the challenges and successes with the Code and partnerships, as well as how to better encourage athlete engagement. On Day 3, high school students from Sapporo, who took values-based anti-doping education classes, joined the seminar to deliver their thoughts on the values of sport, and to develop their understanding of the values through an activity-based session called “New MO!” facilitated by Olympians and Paralympians mainly from Hokkaido. The mayor of Sapporo also joined the final event of the seminar titled Public engagement for PLAY TRUE: Reaching out for clean sport and play true. This event was at the Sapporo Clock Tower (National Treasure) where leaders shared the importance of city development and the extension to the future through clean sport. This International Anti-Doping Seminar was held as a part of “PLAY TRUE 2020 – SPORT FOR TOMORROW” a Tokyo 2020 legacy project to create a better future through the power of sport. .

The disqualification of highly anticipated medalists in Michigan, USA. Email: [email protected] short track speed skating events elicited heated online arguments between Korean and Chinese sports fans. A content analysis of antagonistic texts featuring anti-Korea and anti-China posts reveals that ‘othering’ practices are predominantly performed by: (1) mak- ing reference to seemingly irrelevant details; (2) evoking stereotyp- ical images of a race and/or a nation; and (3) utilizing overtly offen- sive language or transgressive language. Drawing upon linguistic strategies of encoding ‘us’ vs. ‘them’ dichotomies reported in earlier research, this study shows that explicit disparagement, disapprov- ing representation of the other, stereotyping, and overgeneralization are readily utilized by both parties, who also occasionally engage in verbal reconciliation through lexical and syntactic mirroring. 1 INTRODUCTION Sports are a significant part of recreation and popular culture and have become important social activities for many who enjoy them as players and spectators. Sports are not just physical activities. Linguistic expressions used in sports have influenced our everyday vocabulary. However, linguistics has not paid much attention to sports with the excep- tion of a few studies (Caldwell, Walsh, Vine, & Jureidini, 2017; Dreyfus & Jones, 2010; Ferguson, 1983; Lavric, Pisek, Skinner, & Stadler, 2008). ISSF recommend members assess risks before sending athletes to Tokyo 2020 test event By Michael Pavitt (https://www.insidethegames.biz/index.php/writers/24080/michael-pavitt) " Sunday, 1 March 2020 () ! Add comment The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) has told member associations to deliberate over whether to travel to the upcoming Tokyo 2020 test event due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Ready Steady Tokyo test event is scheduled to take place from April 18 to 25. Athletes are due to compete at the Asaka Shooting Range, a temporary venue for the Games. With the deadline for entries approaching, the ISSF have recommended its members assess potential risks for athletes’ health in travelling and coming into contact with people from different countries. “As a result of the existence of already introduced restrictions, operational measures undertaken by governments and dynamics of the virus, the ISSF recommends you deliberate in making travel arrangements,” a statement read. “Of course, each Member Federation that has athletes invited to the Test Event is free to make any decisions on their trip to Japan and participation in the competitions. “The ISSF is monitoring the situation and desires to avoid any risk for those athletes who obtained the quota places and earned the right to take part in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. “We will continue updating you on a regular basis of situations related to the test event.” Over 88,000 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed worldwide, with more than 3,000 people having died.
