WELCOME!

Hi folks,

Thanks for joining us for DelFest 11. We are glad you are here.

While we showcase many types of music here at DelFest, most of it has its roots in Bluegrass, and for this year’s festival we’re shining a big spotlight on Bluegrass, especially with the Bluegrass Congress on Saturday night. The gentlemen we have gathered for that set have made as big a mark on the music as anyone. They’ve taken the music that created to new levels on their respective instruments. I’m very excited to get to share the stage with all of these friends – Dawg, Ricky, Jerry, Sam, Bryan and Stuart – for a night that I know I won’t soon forget.

This focus on picking and bluegrass continues with sets from many of the top bluegrass touring bands on the road like Greensky Bluegrass and , as well as the next generation of great pickers that are taking up the mantle, like and , as well as a host of young bands that are creating some excitement. As usual, there will be a little something for everyone at this year’s DelFest, but I hope you look back on it when it’s all said and done, and say, “We might have just witnessed the world’s best and biggest picking party.”

Most of you know what DelFest is about, but I’ll dare repeat it here for any newbies. We are all family, we love one another, we love music, and we are here to have a good time with each other. So, be safe, have fun, and enjoy the picking party.

Sincerely, Del McCoury and the entire McCoury Family

Clean Vibes will be making every effort to keep the campground and concert areas clean and safe throughout the weekend – but we need your help. Please use the bags you were given when you arrived to keep your camping area clean. Every vehicle received two bags: one is for trash (clear bag destined for landfill) and one is for recycling (blue bag for empty cans and plastic bottles). All aluminum and plastic beverage containers can be recycled. Please tie your filled bags and pack out all glass recyclables this year. Carry your bags to the nearest dumpster or collection station. They are marked for trash or recycling. Please break down bulky items before discarding and set any cardboard boxes next to the trash barrels, not inside them.

Help sweep the concert field after the music! At the conclusion of each night’s shows, we will distribute recycling and garbage bags to sweep the concert grounds. Meet in front of the stage for the sweep.

Please help Clean Vibes cultivate cleanliness and ensure that we as a community reduce the size of the ecological footprint we leave behind this weekend. Billy Strings SAT 4:35 PM Potomac / 1:45 AM SAT Late Night SUN 3:30 PM Grandstand Billy Strings plays hard and he lives hard, picking so fast and intensely that he’s known to break multiple strings per , and basing the songs he writes on the hard lives he grew up around in the abandoned rural communities of America. His new , Turmoil & Tinfoil, taps into a deep vein of psychedelia in Americana, referencing everything from the Dead to , but all underlaid by Billy’s undeniable virtuosity and his knowledge of of American music. Billy’s front porch in East is constantly filled up with Nashville’s best roots musicians just picking up a storm.

Birds of Chicago FRI 2:45 PM Potomac / SAT 2:40 PM Music Hall Known for their “near perfect Americana” (No Depression), JT Nero and Allison Russell recently finished recording their sprawling rock and roll circus of an album Love in Wartime, to be released next year. Nero had a suite of songs that didn’t feel quite at home on Love in Wartime. Having relocated to Nashville, they decided to throw themselves their own welcome to town party by recording an acoustic EP at Steve Dawson’s Henhouse Studio. It is Love in Wartime’s “country cousin” and it rounds out Birds of Chicago’s offering of healing, communion and celebration of life in a dark and troubled time.

The Bluegrass Congress SAT 8:00 PM Grandstand Among all the great performers at this year’s DelFest, we’re particularly excited about a once-in-a-lifetime performance planned for Saturday night. Del McCoury began sending out hand-rolled parchment invitations to a select group of deserving musical participants, inviting them to join his DelFest 2018 Bluegrass Congress. This Memorial Day weekend, The Bluegrass Congress – which includes Ricky Skaggs, David Grisman, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Bryan Sutton and Stuart Duncan – will officially be called to order. These musicians represent the best at what they do in the field of bluegrass and will convene on Saturday with The Del McCoury Band for a picking party like 32. none other in festival history! The Broomestix FRI 6:15 PM Music Hall / SAT 12:50 PM Potomac SUN 10:30 AM Grandstand Nine young men and a girl, The Broomestix are an R&B/soul/ funk jamband out of the Nashville area; an exceptional group of musicians with an irresistibly funky rhythm section, stand- out vocalist and tight, in-your-face, five-piece horn section whose sound engages their audiences with irresistible rhythms and provides a unique introduction to emerging, right-now talent. Audiences all over the country rave about the explosive talent and creativity of their live shows.

The Brothers Comatose FRI 4:35 PM Potomac / 12:15 AM SAT Late Night Americana mavens The Brothers Comatose forge their own path with raucous West Coast renderings of , country and rock ‘n’ roll music. The five-piece string band is anything but a traditional acoustic outfit. When they’re not headlining The Fillmore for a sold-out show or appearing at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, the band is out on the road performing across America, Canada and Australia, and hosting their very own music festival, Comatopia. In 2018 The Brothers Comatose traveled to Asia for a month of cultural music exchange and education with American Music Abroad, a program directed by the State Department.

Bryan Sutton Band FRI 1:45 PM Music Hall / SAT 4:35 PM Potomac SAT 8:00 PM Grandstand Bryan Sutton is the most accomplished and awarded acoustic guitarist of his generation, an innovator who bridges the bluegrass flatpicking traditions of the 20th century with the dynamic roots music scene of the 21st. His rise from buzzed- about young sideman to first-call Nashville session musician to membership in one of history’s greatest bluegrass bands has been grounded in quiet professionalism and ever-expanding musicianship. Sutton is a GRAMMY Award winner and a nine- time International Association Guitar Player of the Year.
