Heritage Committee Kopernik Society Heritage Committee Important Events November 13 General Meeting, Election of Officers, Covered Dish Supper, PCC, 4:00pm Newsletter – Autumn 2016 December 11 Wigilia, PCC, 5:00 p.m. (Cash Bar 4:00 p.m.) President’s Column KOPERNIK SOCIETY…….IMPORTANT NEWS…….GENERAL MEETING Fall colors are upon us and soon the beauty of the sparkling snow and winter skies will be here. First NOVEMBER 13, 2016 @ 4 p.m. we have the holidays to celebrate with Thanksgiving with our families and Wigilia with our Kopernik POLISH COMMUNITY CENTER, family and friends. 347 Prospect St., Binghamton, NY Much has happened during the past year and as president, I am pleased and proud to be part of the board of directors that has worked so hard along with the staff and other volunteers to make positive 1. COVERED DISH SUPPER things happen! I look forward to remaining in this role for at least another year. 2. BUSINESS MEETING / WITH ELECTION OF OFFICERS We have had ribbon cutting ceremonies for the new HVAC system made possible by grants from New  Drew Deskur, Executive Director of KOSC will speak York State (Donna Lupardo), The Community Foundation for the Southern Tier and NYSEG; and for a new  Irene Siedlarczyk, current President of Kopernik Society will speak 14” telescope and mount made possible by the Kopernik Astronomical Society. In addition, KOSC has  Candidates for officers on Kopernik Society Board who wish to speak followed by added a marvelous portable planetarium to its set of assets and the staff have been sharing this with election of officers students in both New York and Pennsylvania. 3. Rita Yeates will talk about her trip to this past summer The buildings and grounds committee has been busy at work providing new storage (external container), (teaching English to Polish high school students) fixing and painting the domes over the telescopes, major roof repairs and many other repair and 4. Demonstration of the KOSC’s portable planetarium maintenance activities. 5. Adjournment Again I emphasize that the Kopernik Observatory & Science Center is a major asset to the community at large. It takes a great deal of dedication by many to keep the KOSC available to the community.

Continual attention to the infrastructure is required. Always remember that the Kopernik Society is BAKERS NEEDED / WIGILIA, 2016 entrusted with maintaining the KOSC. We also have the goal of sharing Polish culture with the community. Please do what you can to help meet the society’s goals. We are in need of homemade baked goods for the Wigilia, 2016. I encourage you all to come to the general meeting and vote for officers on November 13th. KOLACZKI by RITA Kopernik Society Board Recommended Slate of Officers for 2017 Wonderful kolaczki, made by Rita Yeates, will be available for pickup at the Wigilia on December 11, President Irene Siedlarczyk 2016 at the Polish Community Center. The Wigilia begins at 4 p.m. 1st Vice President Emil Bielecki The kolaczki are $5.00 a dozen; the flavors are: walnut, raspberry, apricot, and lekwar.
