The plan aims to protect lives and valuables as well as to ensure the safety of all worship- pers, “which we refuse to compromise in any way”, a state- ment by the ministry quoted Fahd as saying. “Diligent efforts on the part of security forces are key to the success of this plan,” the undersecretary noted. Moreover, Fahd underscored the need of diligence and cooperation between government bodies to ensure that the plan goes off without a hitch. Meanwhile, a comprehensive security inspection cam- paign in various governorates resulted in arresting 417 people, including eight wanted for criminal cases, 53 wanted for civilian claims, 56 absconders, 187 for not holding IDs, seven for drug possession, eight for alcohol possession, 83 with expired residency visas and 14 want- ed people, in addition to filing 776 traffic tickets. Also, a ‘butcher’ was arrested for collecting dead sheep from the desert, cleaning them at his house and selling them, said security sources. Goodman, G. Pym, K. Lound, G. Jones, J. B. Wilson, B. Norris, P. Neale, C. R. Martin (Secretary). The Minutes of the last Meeting were read. An objection was raised to the following minute concerning player registration: “It was agreed that, if a player who had been registered as an overseas player [C(iv)] was subsequently registered under another category, documentary evidence should be provided to show that absences from the UK had not exceeded the prescribed limits.” The Secretary recorded comments to indicate that: “It should be the responsibility of a player to prove that he has been present in the country for the required period by means of a passport (or photocopy) or other means confirming arrivals and departures, or evidence of time working here. Players currently under investigation should be asked to produce this within seven days of receipt of a letter of request.” The Vice-Chairman then signed the minutes. Matters Arising. One umpire’s report had been received concerning a pitch at Blyth, but no response to the letter to the club, and it was agreed to suggest to them that Paul Wilson be approached to give advice. The Disciplinary Hearing following the match between Rose Leisure and Bilsthorpe had been adjourned and was to be re-convened on 19th July.

western australian cricket umpires association November 2013 Western Australian Cricket Umpires’ Association November 2013 A new online home… Trent Steenholdt If you’re IT savvy like me, you may have noticed that the WACUA Committee this season has really put a focus on promoting the association via the forums of social media (Facebook and YouTube), the branding redesign and the new website. The Committee as part of our constitution holds a responsibility to “foster, encourage and promote the game of cricket in all respects” and we thought that as a team, we should try to deliver this while providing the best benefit add to our members. As part of this work, our interactions with social media have certainly changed. In the past weeks, you may have seen that we’ve actually taken the focus away from the “closed” WACUA Facebook group and put our efforts into a public, for all to see, Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/wacua). This page was primarily created for two purposes - one to promote the WACUA and attract new members and business sponsorships but also, and more importantly, to publically recognise milestones and achievements made by our members. Many milestones and achievements have happened in the past and we’ve simply been unable to promote them with pupils outside of the WACUA! Our members achievements in the opinion of the committee should be available for all to see, whether he or she is a fan of umpire’s overseas or plays, officiates or participates in some way to the WADCCI/ WACA District Cricket Competition. While the “closed” Facebook group (www.facebook.com/groups/wacua.members) has now taken a back step to be for members only to discuss the contentious issues that surround the WACA/WADCCI cricket umpiring ranks, the public page has already been a massive success! The amount of ‘likes’ that we have already received actually beats the efforts of other Cricket Umpires (and Scorers) Associations in Australia and throughout the world.

At the newly internationally accredited Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville, Paul Wilson made his One Day International debut in the fixture between Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong played on November 8th. Ranked 15th and 16th respectively, both teams narrowly missed a place in next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup. It is also PNG’s first ever One Day International. In the two-game Series held across two consecutive days, Wilson stands with New Zealander Phil Jones. Having represented Australia throughout the 1997/98 season; Australia A between 1997/98 and 2000/01, as well as South Australia (1993/94-2001/02) and Western Australia (2002/03-2003/04), Wilson transitioned into umpiring via the CA Project Panel. His first taste of umpiring in a tournament environment was in 2007 as part of a CA Institute Challenge in Darwin. Over the following seasons, Wilson was involved in the Emerging Players’ Tournament in Brisbane. Wilson made his First Class debut in November 2009 in the fixture between Western Australia and New South Wales at the WACA. Later that season in February, Wilson had the opportunity to experience the international scene when being appointed as the ICC 4th umpire for an One Day International between Australia and New Zealand in Perth.

The tournament gives players an unrivaled experience of global events and a real flavour of international cricket at senior level, while cricket fans around the world can watch tomorrow’s stars in action on television or through live-streaming. A host of past and present stars have come through this system and the fact that a number of current captains including Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, Sarfraz Ahmed and Dinesh Chandimal have all figured in past ICC U19 World Cups, demonstrates the calibre of cricketers we can expect to see during this event. On behalf of the ICC, I would like to take this opportunity to thank New Zealand Cricket, its staff, ground authorities and volunteers in helping us organize this important event. I would also like to thank our commercial and broadcast partners for their support in making our events so special and taking them to the widest possible audience.
