MONDAY, AUGUST 30, 2021 NUMBERS DON'T LIE. BUT MEDINA SPIRIT RETURNS A WINNER IN SHARED BELIEF THEY CAN BE PERPLEXING Zedan Racing Stable's Medina Spirit (Protonico), whose GI Kentucky Derby title still remains in limbo due to a betamethasone positive, returned to the winner's circle with a wire-to-wire victory in the Shared Belief S. at Del Mar Sunday. The dark bay colt, sent off the 4-5 favorite, went quickly to the lead and was tracked by second choice Rock Your World (Candy Ride {Arg}) through a quarter in :22.52 and a half in :46.92. The two favorites were swarmed by longshots nearing the stretch as GI Santa Anita Derby winner Rock Your World drifted out slightly in upper stretch and Team Merchants (Nyquist) and Stilleto Boy (Shackleford) exchanged bumps, but Medina Spirit ran straight and true and powered home a one-length winner over the resurgent Rock Your World. Following an inquiry into the infractions in upper stretch, the stewards determined Team Merchants, who finished fourth, was responsible for the interference with third-place finisher Stilleto Boy and allowed Essential Quality overtakes Midnight Bourbon | Sarah Andrew the order of finish to stand. Belmont Child Care Association’s Anna House was built to create a safe and nurturing environment for the children of backstretch workers at Belmont Park, Aqueduct Race Track, and Saratoga Race Course, and Bright Horizons was engaged to operate an early childhood education and development program to teach our children English and provide them with the fundamental learning blocks that most of us take for granted. Following graduation from Anna House, our children enter kindergarten in the local public schools at the same level as their peers. Our graduates now join us in our school-age enrichment program before school, on the weekends, and during vacations. Thanks to our Olivia’s Herd after-school program, they are provided with free tutoring during elementary school and middle school. THURSDAY, JULY 29, 2021 WIT FINDS IT EASY LIKE GRITTY WHITMORE 'STILL THERE BEING HONEST' by Mike Kane A SUNDAY MORNING SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.--To illustrate his point about Whitmore (Pleasantly Perfect), trainer Ron Moquett stepped into the Eclipse Award winner's stall Sunday morning saying, "This is not the time to do this," and rubbed his star's coat with a small towel. Showing his displeasure, Whitmore promptly kicked the wall. Hard. "He is as consistent as the day is long," Moquett said, smiling. "He will do everything the exact same way. Our job is to get done, working with him, knowing his idiosyncrasies." Moquett and his staff live in Whitmore's world, ruled by the 8-year-old gelding who is scheduled to make his 42nd career start--the 13th in a Grade I--in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt H.
