EDDIE OLCZYK’S BETTING TIPS FRIDAY BANKROLL BUILDER RACE 4 // MCCONNELL SPRINGS STAKES // 1:15 PM ET #7 UNHOLY ALLIANCE (9-2 morning line) is my key, likely to get a great set-up after chasing Filly & Mare Sprint contender Come Dancing at Saratoga. She should sit just behind the speed for a jockey- trainer combination you have to consider. I’d be happy at a price around 5-1. Win: #7 UNHOLY ALLIANCE Exacta Box: #7 UNHOLY ALLIANCE, #6 UNIQUE FACTOR, #9 ROYAL CHARLOTTE SATURDAY MUST-USE HORSES ? RACE 5 // BREEDERS’ CUP TURF SPRINT // 12:39 PM ET #14 EXTRAVAGANT KID (15-1 ML) I’m okay with the 14-hole that will scare away many and produce a bigger price. The rider change to Umberto Rispoli could fit his style. This tactical horse was runner-up to Leinster, who will be no worse than third choice around 4 or 5-1 and Extravagant Kid may be overlooked as high as 20-1. Definitely consider him up and down the exotics. RACE 8 // BREEDERS’ CUP SPRINT // 2:36 PM ET #11 DIAMOND OOPS (8-1 ML) My strongest play of the weekend. Bet him last year in Dirt Mile and didn’t get away great. Glad they didn’t go to Turf Sprint because he’s better on dirt. The jockey change from one Frenchman (Julien Leparoux) to another (Florent Geroux) really perked him up. The pace sets up for him to finish and he’s doing extremely well coming into the Sprint. CLASSIC TAKE The way I see the Classic (Race 12, 5:18 pm ET) is pretty straight forward. TACITUS, no thanks. TITLE READY, no thanks. GLOBAL CAMPAIGN, HIGHER POWER and MAXIMUM SECURITY, no thanks as well. That whittles it down to 5 contenders, and the 10 furlongs may not suit BY MY STANDARDS. TIZ THE LAW couldn’t beat AUTHENTIC at a mile and one-quarter in the Derby, despite how great his record and resume looks. That leaves AUTHENTIC, TOM’S D’ETAT and IMPROBABLE, and I’m leaning to IMPROBABLE. He appears ready to run a huge race, and if you can get the 5-to-2 morning line (which I predict you will) that’s a helluva price. 1ST.COM/BET 5 RACE SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS November 7 • Championships Saturday BREEDERS’ CUP CLASSIC (Grade I) To be run Saturday, November 7 With a gross purse of US$6,000,000 (includes travel awards) Owners purse to be divided as follows: 1st $3,120,000, 2nd $1,080,000, 3rd $540,000, 4th $300,000, 5th $180,000, 6th $120,000, 7th $60,000, 8th $60,000, 9th $60,000, 10th $60,000 In addition to gross purse, nominator awards will be paid to both the foal and stallion nominator (based on eligibility qualifications) as follows: 1st $100,000, 2nd $30,000, 3rd $15,000, 4th $7,500 Additional $1,000 Foal Nominator Award paid 5th through last. CLASSIC SATURDAY // RACE 12 // 5:13PM GRADE 1 - $6,000,000 24 members.breederscup.com BRENT MUSBURGER’S CLASSIC CALL This year’s $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic could be renamed the Bob Baffert Invitational. He trains three of the 10 entries. Baffert won the Classic 3 years in a row with Bayern (2014), American Pharoah (2015) and Arrogate (2016), and has finished second four times. This year he has the first and third shortest-priced horses on the morning line (IMPROBABLE and MAXIMUM SECURITY), and all his “other” horse did was win the Kentucky Derby over the same distance (AUTHENTIC). A freshened TIZ THE LAW (3-1) comes back from his second-place finish in the Derby with trainer Barclay Tagg saying he looks as good as he did in August, when he showed career- best form winning the Travers. At age 7, TOM’S D’ETAT (6-1) comes off a troubled run in the Whitney, where he was left at the starting gate and forced to close on a slow pace yet still finished third. TACITUS (20-1) has been a source of frustration for his backers, losing five of the? last six times he was favored, including odds-on losses in his last two starts. That will not be a factor this time. In the Classic, I tend to bet older horses – I’m going with 4-year-old MAXIMUM SECURITY, predicting a big bounce- back after losing his last start in the Grade 1 Awesome Again. He has been training beautifully for Baffert with 3 bullet works in Southern California. Jockey Luis Sáez will stalk the pace closer than he did in his last outing, and that will be easy with front-running AUTHENTIC alongside.
