Secondo altri Autori, oltre al cinghiale avrebbero partecipato alla formazione della specie e delle razze attuali: - il Sus vittatus dell'Asia meridionale, a testa corta, tronco tozzo e zampe brevi, (attualmente esistente in Cina, Indonesia ed India), progenitore delle razze inglesi Yorkshire e Berkshire, della Poland China americana e dell'Edelschwein tedesca; - il Sus mediterraneus, derivato da incroci di forme selvatiche europee ed asiatiche Domesticazione La prima domesticazione del suino è avvenuta probabilmente in Cina oltre 7.000 anni fa. In Mesopotamia, nel 3.500 a.C., esistevano maiali già addomesticati da tempo. Egizi, Greci e Romani il "porco" è sempre stato tenuto in gran conto. La letteratura classica è piena di riferimenti al maiale ed al suo allevamento. Nel Medioevo l'allevamento suino brado assunse un ruolo di primo piano. -

Cinta Senese is an autochthonous pig breed reared under extensive or semi-extensive 25 management systems, mainly in the Tuscany (Italy). A Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) 26 brand for Cinta Senese meat was recently obtained. The breed is characterised by a typical black 27 with a white-belted coat colour pattern. We analyzed a coat colour gene (KIT) to identify a DNA 28 marker that could be useful for Cinta Senese meat product authentication. -

The property borders Villa Cetinale, a magnificent residence whose baroque landscaped garden is one of the most important in Italy. It was built in 1670 by Cardinal Flavio Chigi and is now owned by an English parliamentarian of the House of Lords who after restoring it also allows the visit to the public. A little further there is the wonderful Celsa Castle, dating back to the thirteenth century, also rich in history, charm and secrets. -
