A rising star in the bocce world is making waves internationally after discovering the sport.

It’s been a meteoric rise for Max Tricarico, who’s now ranked among the top juniors in the Australia after he took up the sport five years ago.

Across Oceania and Asia, the 16-year-old is the number one under-18 player in the sport’s progressive throw discipline and equal first for the doubles rapid throw.

He took out the titles at the Oceania/Asia championship earlier this year and earned selection to represent Australia at the World Junior Champi- onships as a result.

It’s all a confirmation of the value of the Alphington teen’s commitment, with him travelling to train three or four times a week.

Max has also won the Australian title for best precision throw and has been named best junior for the green and gold at consecutive Oceania/ Asia championships.

They’re all significant honours but with the international bocce commu- nity pushing for the sport to be reintroduced to the , even bigger awards could be on the horizon.

Mum Dina Tricarico said Max would be ready for such a stage should the sport’s promotion happen.

“These are prestigious events which are hosted by different countries around the world every year. They recognise the best of the best young players who have significant merit for future championships and at the Olympics,” she said.

“With the Olympics being held in Paris in 2024, there is now a growing effort to get bocce back into the program.”

Dina said Max was also well known for helping out younger players in a bid to help grow the sport. “You’ll always find him assisting and helping out younger players,” she said.

Max Tricarico is a 2018 Leader Local Sports Star Junior Nominee.

All members of the Executive Com- mittee unanimously decided that any Olympic offer should include Raffa and the CMSB statute should be amended to ensure the rotation of man- agement between 3 disciplines.

After 8 hours of lengthy discussions and various deci- sions, it was also concluded to do a SWOT analysis of the CBI that would lead strategic plan- ning between 2020 and 2024.
