Dr. Taner BOZKUŞ Bartın-2019, XIX + 152 The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between stress and coping skills of bocce (volo) athlete The study population constitutes contestant Volo licensed athletes in Turkey. A sample of the research is the Volo athletes who participated in the Turkish championship in the junior and seniors category in 2019. In this study, the 'Scale for Coping with Stress' Scale developed by Folkman and Lazarus (1980), adapted to Turkish by Şahin et al. (1992) and the ‘Problem solving scale’ developed by Heppner (1982) and adapted to Turkish by Taylan (1990) has been used as a data collection tool. In this study, descriptive statistics methods were used for mean and standard deviation scores and "Independent Samples T-Test" for two-Category variables and "one Way ANOVA" for more than 2-category variables were used to determine whether the level of stress coping and problem solving skills scores differed according to demographic variables Post Hoc-Tukey tests were used to determine which groups had significant differences if there were significant differences between the group Finally, the Pearson product moment correlation technique was used to test the relationship between problem solving skills and stress coping strategie Significance level α = .05 was taken and statistical analyzes were performed in SPSS (Statistical Packet for Social Sciences) program. At the end of the study, according to the scores of the athletes, the highest self-confidence approach in coping with stress and personal control sub-dimension in problem solving skills were the highest. Significant differences were found in the way athletes cope with stress according to their scores; according to age and education level of athletes in the helpless approach, according to education levels of athletes and mothers of athletes in the optimistic approach, according to the state of being a national athlete in the self-confident approach, according to the status of national or international degree in submissive style approach. Similarly, according to the viii scores of athletes, significant differences were found in problem solving skills, in personal control according to gender, in problem solving confidence according to age, education level of athletes, family income and national or international degree. No significant correlation was found between total coping with stress and total problem solving skill However, significant relationships were found between the coping with stress sub- dimensions and problem solving skills sub-dimension A significant and positive relationship was found between self-confident and optimistic approaches and problem-solving skills sub- dimensions and total problem solving skill Also, it was found that there was a significant and negative relationship between self-insecure and submissive approaches and problem solving skills sub-dimensions and total problem solving skill Keywords: Bocce; volo; sports; stress; coping with stress; problem; problem solving skills ix İÇİNDEKİLER KABUL VE ONAY ................................................................................................. iii BEYANNAME ........................................................................................................ iv ÖNSÖZ ..................................................................................................................... v ÖZET ....................................................................................................................... vi ABSTRACT ..........................................................................................................

  • Petanque – Basics
PETANQUE – BASICS The Game: Pétanque is a game where the goal is to throw metal balls (boules) as close as possible to a small wooden ball (jack or “cochonnet.”) While throwing a boule, a player must keep his/her two feet on the ground and within a starting circle drawn on the ground. The game is normally played on hard dirt or gravel. Teams: Triples: 3 players against 3 players (two boules per player) or Doubles: 2 players against 2 players (three boules per player) or Singles: 1 player against 1 player (three boules per player) Order of Play: A. A coin is tossed to decide which team goes first. B. Once the starting team is known: 1. A player of the starting team draws a circle on the ground with a diameter of 35-50 cm (14-20 in.) 2. A player of the starting team throws the jack 6-10 m (20-33 ft.) away. The jack must also land at least 1m (3 ft.) away from any boundary of the play area. 3. A player of the starting team throws the first boule. (The players in B.1., B.2. or B.3. may or may not be the same player, but they must be from the starting team.) C. Then, a player from the opposing team throws a boule. If that player’s boule did not land closest to the jack, his/her team keeps throwing boules until one is closer to the jack than the best-placed boule of the opposing team. D. As soon as a team gets a boule closest to the jack, it is the opposing team’s turn to play.
