BUYER’S GUIDE TO TOYOTA CROSSOVER SUVS FREE EBOOK! 100 GOLD STAR BOULEVARD, WORCESTER, MA 01606 855-965-3101 | HARRTOYOTA.COM If you’re like most folks seeking a new ride, you probably want a crossover SUV. This specifi c type of model has ballooned in popularity, and it’s easy to see why. The versatility, practicality, and customizability of crossover SUVs will appeal to any lifestyle. If you also value reliability in your next model, Toyota is a stellar choice. So what crossovers does Toyota make, and how do they stack up against one another? That’s what this eBook, Buyer’s Guide to Toyota Crossover SUVs, is all about! TOYOTA C-HR The most compact SUV in the Toyota lineup is the still-powerful Toyota C-HR. Almost more car-like than SUV, the C-HR still carves out plenty of interior room, is loaded with safety features, and has reliable, adjustable performance. C-HR Performance A single, peppy engine is used to power each trim level of the Toyota C-HR. It’s a 4-cylinder making 144 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission with intelligence and Shift Mode, the crossover can return an EPA-estimated 27 city/31 highway MPG.1 Front-wheel drive is the only powertrain setup off ered, but you can adjust your performance on the fl y using the available drive modes. ECO is the mode to go with if you’re prioritizing fuel economy, and there’s also the fun-loving Sport mode and the everyday Normal mode. C-HR Interior Packaging No matter the size, a crossover SUV has to serve as a practical and useable companion. The C-HR does a fi ne job of balancing storage and space for people. 1 The headroom up front measures 38.1 inches, and in the rear, the number grows slightly to 38.3 inches. Legroom is 43.4 inches up front and 31.7 inches in back, while hip room is 52.9 inches and 48 inches in the front and rear, respectively. The total interior volume measures 105.1 cubic feet while the total passenger volume is 86 cubic feet. So when storing cargo, you have 19.1 cubic feet of room behind the second row, and with that second row folded fl at, 37 cubic feet of maximum storage. C-HR Safety Equipment Safety is quite similar to reliability when you start talking about Toyota. Both traits are baked into each model, no matter the size. So the petite Toyota C-HR is going to provide peace of mind as you travel local roads. Standard in the C-HR is the Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5 suite of technologies. From automatically braking in the face of a likely collision to gently guiding you back into your lane if you unknowingly veer, this advanced suite can do it all. The driver-assistance features included are: • Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist • Lane Tracing Assist • Automatic High Beams • Road Sign Assist • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control 2 TOYOTA RAV4 One of the truly ground-breaking crossover SUVs when it debuted, the Toyota RAV4 has been around a long time. Toyota has had the chance to really refi ne the model, which is evident when you look at the current iteration, which can be had with a gas-powered or hybrid powertrain. Toyota RAV4 Performance Straightaway, it’s important to discuss the fuel economy diff erences in the RAV4 between the non-hybrid and hybrid engines. The non-hybrid 2.5L engine returns an EPA-estimated 27 city/35 highway MPG.2 Moving instead to the hybrid 2.5L engine gives you access to an EPA-estimated 41 city/38 highway MPG.2 There are a host of selectable drive modes for each motor, too. The hybrid comes with Sport, ECO, Normal, and EV, while the non-hybrid features Sport, ECO, and Normal. Power is pretty close, too, with the hybrid at a system net horsepower of 219 and the non-hybrid touting 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive or a variety of all-wheel drive setups can be had with the RAV4. There’s also a strong maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. Toyota RAV4 Interior Layout As we move from smaller Toyota crossovers like the C-HR to larger off erings like the RAV4, it makes sense the interior space is going to expand. A good example is the cargo room of the RAV4, which is a hearty 37.6 cubic feet behind the second row and a maximum of 69.8 cubic feet. Five passengers will easily get comfortable using the 98.9 cubic feet of total passenger volume. Headroom measures 37.7 inches up front and 39.5 inches in the rear. For legroom and hip room, you can expect: • 41 inches of front legroom • 37.8 inches of rear legroom • 54.3 inches of front hip room • 47.7 inches of rear hip room 3 RAV4 Infotainment When behind the wheel of the Toyota RAV4, you’ll have easy access to various applications and amenities. The standard touchscreen integrated into the dashboard measures 7 inches, but you can bump up to an 8-inch unit if you want. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard interfaces. A host of other impressive technologies can also be fi tted into the vehicle, such as: • Hands-free phone capability and music streaming • Bluetooth® wireless technology • 11-speaker JBL® sound system with subwoofer and amplifi er TOYOTA HIGHLANDER The Toyota Highlander crossover SUV shares the same distinction as the RAV4, being off ered in hybrid or non-hybrid form. It’s also the largest crossover we’ve yet discussed, which gives you huge amounts of capability and practicality. Toyota Highlander Performance Just like the RAV4, we’ll start off with the fuel economy diff erences between the hybrid and non-hybrid engines. The non-hybrid, gas-powered Highlander reaches an EPA-estimated 20 city/27 highway MPG, with the hybrid checking in at an EPA-estimated 36 city/35 highway MPG.3 4 The Highlander is the most powerful of the Toyota crossover SUV lineup, and its 3.5L V6 engine generates 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. When you have the SUV properly equipped, you can reach 5,000 pounds of maximum towing capacity. You’ll also benefi t from Trailer-Sway Control, which helps keep your trailer steady. The drivetrain can either be a front-wheel or all-wheel setup. The V6 engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid motor making 243 combined system net horsepower is mated to an Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission. Toyota Highlander Interior Outlay The Highlander is the fi rst and only Toyota crossover SUV we’ll be discussing to off er a third row of seats. This means you have a whole lot of cargo options: • 16 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the third row • 48.4 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the second row • 84.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the fi rst row These passengers will have plenty of space to get comfortable, too, with legroom measuring 42 inches up front, 41 inches in the middle, and 27.7 inches in the rear. Highlander Exterior The Toyota Highlander pairs graceful looks with practical features. If carrying as many supplies with you as possible while off -roading is a priority, you can include optional features such as roof rails, front and rear mudguards, a rear bumper scuff plate, and a high-adjustable, hands-free liftgate. The model’s illumination is impressive, too, with features like an LED center high-mount stop light, LED taillights, LED fog lights, and LED projector headlights with adaptive front-lighting system. 5 TOYOTA VENZA Finally, we arrive at the luxurious Toyota Venza, a recent addition to the Toyota crossover SUV lineup. If you want to be pampered on local roads while also enjoying high-end effi ciency, the Venza is a splendid choice. Venza Performance The 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid of the Toyota Venza returns an EPA-estimated 40 city/37 highway MPG and reaches 219 combined system net horsepower.4 A lithium-ion battery contributes to the powertrain. There’s also a Continuously Variable Transmission and an on-demand all-wheel drive setup for better traction. Venza Interior The Venza doesn’t match the size of the RAV4 and Highlander crossover SUVs, but it’s got an intelligently designed cabin. Cargo volume behind the second row measures 28.8 cubic feet, with the maximum cargo reaching 55.1 cubic feet. Up front, you’ll enjoy 38.6 inches of headroom and 40.9 inches of legroom, while the rear off ers 39 inches of headroom and 37.8 inches of legroom. Luxurious Cabin of the Toyota Venza The Toyota Venza is a true show-stopper when you climb inside the cabin. Rich amenities such as a Qi-compatible wireless charging station come standard, for instance. The steering wheel can be leather-wrapped and heated. The front seats can be heated, ventilated, and wrapped in perforated SofTex® trim. Plus, the center console can be had with ambient lighting and a wood-grain-style trim. 6 CHOOSING A TOYOTA CROSSOVER SUV The hunt for the right Toyota Crossover SUV is an exciting one.
