Marina Carmelo Pizzo CALABRIA COAST with Tropea The unique Aeolian Island archipelago waiting to be explored with the most aktive Vulcano in Europe Stromboli Salina Vulcano Crater Vulkano The islands of volcanic origin in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the north coast of Sicily are characterized by wild, unspoilt nature. They are called the "Aeolian Islands" because, according to Greek legend, the god of the wind, Aeolus, once lived here. The jewel in theMediterranean has seven inhabited islands, and each one is different. From lovely green hills to seething craters, you will find a wide variety of unique natural landscapes in a very small space. That is why the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Regular volcanic eruptions of the Stromboli offer a true natural spectacle, and the volcanic mountains are a paradise for hikers of Mediterranean island landscapes. We spend the night mostly in beautiful bays and there is enough time for swimming, snorkeling or kayaking. Vulcano Panarea & Stromboli Not just sailing -time to explore the islands, meet the locals and experience their rich cultures Our sailing route and daily routines are adapted to wind, weather and season: Vibo Marina - Lipari - Vulcano - Salina - Panarea - Strombolicchio - Stromboli - Tropea - Vibo Marina. Lipari: Although Lipari with approx. 5000 inhabitants only have the population of a larger village, you are here in a typical Sicilian small town. Lipari has one of the most beautiful archaeological museums in Italy and a picturesque old town with many small shops that invite you to stroll. Obsidian and pumice stone can be found around Monte Pilato. It is The daily program: worth taking a detour on the Vespa, and there are many hiking opportunities for different demands. Depending on the wind, weather and season, we plan the right daily routine! Salina: While the other six islands are administered centrally from Lipari, Salina has three The shore excursions are made individually or in small groups. mayors for approximately 2300 inhabitants. Salina is also known as "the green island" because in the 1970s the focus here was not only on tourism but also on rebuilding We are happy to take into account the wishes of our fellow sailors agriculture as a second mainstay. There are numerous vineyards and the dessert wine "Malvasia delle Lipari" and of course the capers, which are considered to be the best in and pass on our local insider knowledge. the world, come from here. Organic farmer Fenech tells us about growing capers and wine. Trekkers can hike to the highest peak of the archipelago, the 962m high Monte Fossa delle Felci with a fairytale pine and chestnut forest. Panarea: Panarea is the smallest island in the archipelago and is known as the island of the rich and beautiful. While walking through the narrow streets, the visitor can get an idea of how well-kept the island is. In Roman antiquity, the islands of Panarea, especially Basiluzzo, were a refuge for high society, as evidenced by the ruins of a large Roman villa on the now uninhabited island. A hike with the beautiful panorama of all the islands and a visit to the Bronze Age village on Capo Milazzese leaves nothing to be desired. Volcano: The smell of sulfur greets visitors here as soon as they dock: until the end of the 19th century, sulfur and alum were mined here under inhuman conditions only a few meters from the quay. Today, souvenir shops, spas, hotels and bars are springing up here, and those who want can wallow in the warm sulfur mud. The highlight is certainly the two- hour crater hike with yellow sulfur fumaroles. Stromboli: Since ancient times, the volcano was an orientation point for seafarers at night - the Stromboli erupts about every 15 to 20 minutes. Depending on the magma level in the chimney, the lava fountains are thrown several hundred meters above the crater rim. The best location to see a Volcano close up in Europe. We use for the hike the guides from Magmatrek who organize the ascent in groups - the only way to climb the crater rim. Hiking above 400 m is prohibited without a licensed guide. You can also comfortably enjoy the volcanic eruptions at 200m from the Pizzeria Observatorio with a glass of wine and good pizza.
