If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I Booking would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young.” Places are in demand & booking is essential. Did you know? th The statue outside Johnston Central Library is that of Henry Maxwell, the 7 Baron Farnham, who along with his wife lost his life in a railway accident near Abergele in Wales on 20 August 1868. The Farnham title was created for John Maxwell in 1756 who had represented Cavan in the Irish House of Commons. John Maxwell’s son, the second Baron, was created Viscount Farnham in 1760 & Earl of Farnham in 1763. The line continued sometimes in a sideways manner to Barry Owen Somerset th Maxwell, who succeeded to the title as 12 Baron in 1957 aged 26. He was the last member of the Maxwell family to reside at Farnham House and when he died in 2001 the title ‘Baron Farnham’ went to his brother Simon Kenlis Maxwell. Farnham House and estate was sold to the McCabe family. The statue was designed by Samuel Ferres Lynn, paid for by Lord Farnham’s tenantry, and unveiled in 1871. It originally stood in the Farnham Gardens on the opposite side of the street and was subsequently moved in front of the Protestant Hall which was knocked down to make way for the new Johnston Central Library which opened in June 2006.
