ANDREI THE GIANT Andrei Svechnikov scored a goal tonight, and he has now registered five points (2g, 3a) during the postseason, which ranks tied for third on the team behind only Sebastian Aho (5-2—7) and Jordan Staal (4-2—6). Svechnikov has now scored nine goals in his NHL/Hurricanes playoff career, tied with Jeff O’Neill (1999, 2001-02) and (2006) for the ninth-most goals in franchise playoff history. Since 2019, he ranks third on the team in goals (9) and points (17) behind Aho (13-18—31) and Teuvo Teravainen (11-7—18).

FACING THE CHAMPS This series against the Lightning marks the fourth time in franchise history that the Whalers/Hurricanes have faced the defending champions in the postseason. The franchise’s only series win against the defending champs came in 2019, when Carolina defeated WSH in seven games in the Eastern Conference First Round. The Hurricanes also fell to NJD in six games in the 2001 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, and the Whalers suffered a three-game sweep against MTL in the 1980 Preliminary Round.

BLACK MAGIC The Hurricanes are wearing their black third jerseys during home playoff games after wearing them 12 times during the regular season. Carolina posted a 9-1-2 record in their third jerseys during the regular season, and they are 3-2 in them during the 2021 Stanley Cup .
