Growing up with both parents in the entertainment industry, Vera began his music career when he was still a teenager with the first song he ever presented to a publisher, “Mean Old World,” becoming a chart hit for Ricky Nelson. Since then Vera has found success in songwriting, writing songs for artists such as Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Plant, Fats Domino, and his own band Billy & the Beaters. In the mid-80s, Vera received a phone call from the producer of the popular series “Family Ties” that changed his career.
