roads • Yosemite Falls is tallest waterfall in United States • El Capitan tallest single face in North America •Camp 4 regarded as birthplace of modern rock climbing El Capitan Economic Facts • Park supports at least 3,000 jobs and has $29 million annual operating budget •Visited by 4 million people from each year • Accessible from four highways • Eastern access through historic Tioga Road •Highest Trans-Sierra crossing at 3031 meters • Trail access by Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) Study Area Parameters • Individuals have different needs and expectations • INPUT • Park goer restricted surface with a cluster of points • Visibility tool works best with ~ 16 input points • Align Points to 3D • Sheer cliff faces have ‘stacked points’ • Some image locations were displaced when compared to DEM data • Interpolate Shape tool to make points a 3D object • Add OFFSETA Attribute (when needed) • When point clusters were for people looking out of a lot/view area, add OFFSETA • When point clusters were for geological/geographic features, no OFFSETA but… • Manually Offset Points from Features • To force a perspective and create a frame, point clusters were uniformly displaced • Prevents missing parts of a mountain or cliff that would otherwise be hidden, despite being obviously visible.     Superintendent’s Message Welcome! I am so grateful to have you here to help caretake Yosemite during these unprecedented circumstances. Thank you for your commitment to public service and public land during this challenging time. On behalf of the leadership team, we are deeply honored to have you as part of our world-class team. While not new to the park, I began here as the Acting Superintendent this past January. I’ve spent my career in the park service and most recently came from Point Reyes National Seashore where I’ve been superintendent since 2010. I have always been inspired at every opportunity to work with Yosemite’s passionate and talented staff and my experience since January has only underscored this sentiment. My vision for Yosemite in Summer 2020 is first and foremost to ensure the safety of our staff and visitors.     THE CANON OF YOSEMITE 87 As Merced Cañon forms the southeast branch of Yosemite Val- ley, so the still deeper cañon of Tenaya Creek isits northeastern arm.Here the glacial story is less plain, and on first sight, from the heights on either side, it might be overlooked.For above the cañon's lower two miles,that is, beyond the foot of Mt. Watkins,it crowds to a narrow box-cañon between that great cliff and the steep incline of Clouds Rest.This might seem to be a V-shaped, stream-cut gorge, rather than to have the broader bottom commonly left by a glacier. But alittle exploration discovers glacial footprints in the terminal moraines and the lakes and filled lake-beds,withfineconnecting waterfalls, that mark aglacier's descent from the Cathedral Peak Range, south of the Tuolumne. Roller From the writings of Frank C. Calkins and other sources PREFACE INTRODUCTION Frank Calkins' work in Yosemite was preceded by Yosemite Valley, one of the world's great natural works Henry W. Turner, also of the U.S. Geological Survey, of rock sculpture, is carved into the west slope of the who began mapping the Yosemite and Mount Lyell 30- Sierra Nevada.
