I also agreed to request information from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) on how it may use authorised persons to monitor compliance on its behalf and on NRW’s position regarding what would be considered reasonable prior notice, with detail of the average time used previously. A definitive list of the installations which will be captured by the Order is attached, based on the current database of Welsh installations participating in the EU Emissions Trading System. The list details whether it is a participant in the main scheme (indicated by GHG) or one of the opt-outs and the activity or activities undertaken at the installation which requires a permit under this scheme. With regards to the use of authorised persons, NRW have responded as follows: “This power provides regulators with flexibility in terms of access to and use of specialist resources. The regulator has a statutory duty to determine emissions where an operator has failed to do so and these powers enable a regulator to appoint an agent (e.g. a verifier), perhaps with specialist process knowledge, to visit premises to gather information to calculate emissions. We envisage use of this power would occur rarely and most likely in circumstances where an operator refuses to submit emissions information”. -

` 11 January 2010 News Release Siemens’ Newcastle operation celebrates double success with record orders totalling £110 million Siemens Energy is celebrating double success after securing record orders at its Energy Service Fossil facility in Newcastle. The first for the Ministry of Electricity in Iraq, involves the supply of steam turbine spares for the Al Mussaib Power Station in Iraq. The contract was secured after three years of negotiation in a very challenging market. The steam turbine replacement component work will be completed at the Siemens Shields Road facility in Newcastle. Carl Ennis, Managing Director of Siemens Energy Service Fossil comments: “This contract will pave the way for future business to assist the Ministry of Electricity in its efforts to improve the reliability and maintenance of the electricity supply for the people of Iraq.” The second order for parts, shop repairs and field service for the Siemens designed gas turbines, generators and steam turbines at Seabank Power Station in the Bristol area has given the order book a massive boost. All field service and on shore project management activities will be coordinated from Siemens in the UK. Owned and operated by Seabank Power Limited, the combined cycle gas turbine power station has two modules with an overall capacity of 1,155MW. Siemens will supply parts, repair and service the plant’s equipment on both modules with the contract expected to run until 2018. News for December 2013 5th December 2013 Christmas Lunch at the Old Royal Ship. Message from Bill Balchin. Well done all you heroes who rode to, and especially from, Luckington. I hope you got home before dark. Yes, I bottled out and drove - but I don't mind once a year when I have eaten a Christmas lunch (excellent as usual I thought). Many thanks to Pete and Malcolm, not just for today but all year. Ride report from Pete Campbell: We left Mangotsfield station at 10:15 with Rob Searle leading the way to Luckington. His appointment as ride leader today was clearly a popular decision, as twenty-two people made their way to the old station for the ride. Two minutes into the ride Lara rolled over a sharp object (not sure what, but I guess that doesn't really matter, only that her tyre needed fixing). Mike volunteered to assist and the pair made their own way to lunch. So a smaller but still large enough group of twenty followed Rob down the new cycle path across the railway into Westerleigh, up Wapley Hill, through Dodington and across the A46 near Old Sodbury. A loop through Badminton village gave us the opportunity to view some seriously high-quality Cotswold stone for a few seconds. But we were not out for the view - a Christmas meal was waiting. A short detour round Alderton and we'd done 28 kilometers before lunch. We had seventy two people there this year for the very acceptable menu of soup, turkey with many trimmings and Christmas pudding. -

Annex D Major events in the Energy Industry 2020 Electricity In July 2020 construction work commenced on what is set to be the world’s longest electricity interconnector, linking the UK’s power system with Denmark. Due for completion in 2023, the 765-kilometre ‘Viking Link’ cable will stretch from Lincolnshire to South Jutland in Denmark. In July 2020 approval was granted for the Vanguard offshore wind farm in Norfolk. The 1.8GW facility consisting of up to 180 turbines will generate enough electricity to power 1.95 million homes. In May 2020 approval was granted for Britain’s largest ever solar farm at Cleve Hill, near Whitstable in Kent. The 350MW facility, comprising of 800.000 solar panels, will begin operation in 2022 and will provide power to around 91,000 homes. Energy Prices In February 2020 the energy price cap was reduced by £17 to £1,162 per year, from 1 April for the six-month “summer” price cap period. 2019 Climate Change The Government laid draft legislation in Parliament in early June 2019 to end the UK’s contribution to climate change, by changing the UK’s legally binding long-term emissions reduction target to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The new target is based on advice from the government’s independent advisors, the Committee on Climate Change (CCC). The legislation was signed into law in late June 2019, following approval by the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Energy Policy A joint government-industry Offshore Wind Sector Deal was announced in March 2019, which will lead to clean, green offshore wind providing more than 30% of British electricity by 2030.
