Reading the Irish Woman: Studies in Cultural Encounter and Exchange, 1714–1960 Meaney, Reading the Irish Woman.indd 1 15/07/2013 12:33:33 Reappraisals in Irish History Editors Enda Delaney (University of Edinburgh) Maria Luddy (University of Warwick) Reappraisals in Irish History offers new insights into Irish history, society and culture from 1750. Recognising the many methodologies that make up historical research, the series presents innovative and interdisciplinary work that is conceptual and interpretative, and expands and challenges the common understandings of the Irish past. It showcases new and exciting scholarship on subjects such as the history of gender, power, class, the body, landscape, memory and social and cultural change. It also reflects the diversity of Irish historical writing, since it includes titles that are empirically sophisticated together with conceptually driven synoptic studies. 1. • Bibliography of Publications and Selected Reports Concerning Irish Mineral Resources 1750-2007
Bibliography of Publications and Selected Reports Concerning Irish Mineral Resources 1750-2007 Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources BIBLIOGRAPHY OF PUBLICATIONS AND SELECTED REPORTS CONCERNING IRISH MINERAL RESOURCES 1750 – 2007 By P.R.R. Gardiner, C. Geraghty, E. Garvey, W.R. Cox and B. Loughlin-Lunt Exploration and Mining Division Minerals Publication MP 08/07 ©Exploration and Mining Division 2007 Published by authority of the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Introduction The aim of this compilation is to provide a reference source to any published contribution between 1750 and 2007 that may assist the minerals industry in exploration or mining for metallic and industrial minerals and coal in Ireland. We recognise that relevant information can be found in a variety of sources, and have therefore taken a wide view of the work ‘publication’ to incorporate anything considered relevant, ranging from peer reviewed papers to magazine articles. To enhance the value of this bibliography, we have also included unpublished theses and selected internal reports by staff of the Geological Survey of Ireland and the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland, all of which are publicly available. However, other publicly available material (e.g. company exploration reports, annual reports, environmental impact statements, etc.) has not been included in this bibliography. All of the references are listed alphabetically by author (where known). A keyword search facility will shortly be available online at www.minex.ie. In any compilations of this nature there are always omissions. Some of these are deliberate. Publications regarding coal have been included if they considered economic aspects, but not if they are merely concerned with the general geological setting.

Their landholdings included lands in Counties Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, Cork and Tipperary, as well as the liberty of Kerry. This substantial lordship crossed cultural borders to include Gaelic regions as well as Anglo-Irish controlled areas and the Desmond Geraldines were able to exert influence and, in some cases, overlordship over the semi-autonomous Irish kingdoms beyond their borders.

  • Arthur Askey Foreign Legion
THE FOREIGN LEGION by Billy Bennett I've served in the French Foreign Legion It's Hell! The life couldn't be harder, For it's war to the knife as you run for your life On the plains of Cascara Sagrada. Mixed with the sewer rats of Europe, Hobos and tramps of all kinds; Several outcasts trying to wipe out their pasts And some Bums with no future behind. Scum of the earth they all called us! That made my blood boil in a trice. I speak fluid French when I've had a few drinks- I said: "There's no doubt that we're all down and out. You can ask the French girls if you doubt it- But scum, oh s'come, s'come, that's not nice!" I say 'Hors de combat' and 'Pate' de Joie gras' That's French for "Now then, what about it?" But at best we were just human wreckage Cast up on Life's shore, like a toy. On the slopes of Girvana I met Wheezy Anna, Ships of misfortune, just Flotsam and Jetsam Half Hindoo and half Hottentot. And Flanagan and Allen... Oy! Oy! She was half-cast, it's true, but which half no one knew, Till one night she cast off all the lot. Persians and Medes, Parsnips and Swedes, But I'm British, I'm not like the rest, She was blistered with heat from her head to her feet Mv birthplace was Bow, I'm bowlegged also, And her skin was beginning to crack, And that's why they call me Beau-geste.
