In addition, Eragon was made into a film and a video game. This kind of success is rare for any author, especially one as young as Paolini. He wrote Eragon and planned the plot for the entire series when he was only 15 years old. But Paolini, who was born in 1983 and grew up in a small town in the USA, didn’t have dreams of becoming rich and famous. He had always liked creative writing, and just wanted to try to write the kind of book that he had always enjoyed reading. After making changes and corrections to Eragon , Paolini finally presented it to his parents. They liked it so much that they formed their own publishing company to try and sell the book. His family became involved in everything from the book’s design to its advertising. In the summer of 2002, a family friend recommended the book to an editor in New York. She read it, offered Paolini a contract, and the rest is history. Among Paolini’s influences are his favourite authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien, who wrote books, the beautiful mountain scenery near his home, and his supportive family.
