The Siena College Creative Arts Department and Stage III, the school’s student-run theatre club, presents “The Glass Menagerie,” written by Tennessee Williams and directed by Sandy Boynton. “The Glass Menagerie” is a memory play, a play in which a lead character narrates the events of the play from their memory. It initially premiered in 1944 and was a huge success, catapulting Williams from obscurity to fame. The play tells the story of Amanda Wingfield, a faded Southern belle, abandoned by her husband, who is trying to raise her two children under harsh financial conditions; Tom, her poet-turned-factory worker son; and Laura, her anxious daughter living in a fantasy world with a menagerie of little glass animals.
