Below is a list of awards/scholarships available to graduating seniors. Students selected to receive awards will be recognized at our Senior Awards Ceremony on Thursday, June 3rd. AWARD AWARD DESCRIPTION

The Association of Teaching Assistants Achievement Award of $500 is Association of Teaching Assistants presented to one senior student who has maintained satisfactory grades, Achievement Award demonstrated effort, a positive attitude and proper behavior throughout their high school years and are pursuing a higher education.

The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association Award of $500 Ballston Spa Business & shall be awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated Professional Association Award professionalism in his/her place of employment and responsibility in their school community.

The Ballston Spa Coaches Award is presented to one female and one ​ ​ Ballston Spa Coaches Award male senior athlete who embrace the importance of team, sportsmanship, and coach-ability.

The Ballston Spa Cross Country Track And Field Scholarship is ​ ​ Ballston Spa Cross Country Track awarded to up to 4 senior scholar athletes who best exemplify initiative, and Field Scholarship leadership, dedication, commitment, and team spirit regardless of their ranking on the team

The Ballston Spa Girls Senior Scholarship is given to a senior Ballston Spa Girls Lacrosse Senior who has exhibited leadership and good sportsmanship on and off the Scholarship field for Ballston Spa Girls Lacrosse The BSHS Jason Ruvo Memorial Scholarship is given to Ballston Spa High School Jason graduating senior(s) baseball player who is going to college (must be on Ruvo Memorial Scholarship Varsity, must be going to college)

The Ballston Spa High School PTSA Senior Award of $250 Ballston Spa High School PTSA acknowledges a student for their volunteer service in their school or Scholarship community, and to recognize the role parents, educators, employers, and community members play in their high school years.

The Ballston Spa High School Troupe Booster Club will annually Ballston Spa High School Troupe award three $100 scholarships to three orchestra pit, crew or cast Booster Club Scholarship members who have demonstrated leadership, commitment and contribution to the Troupe theater program.

The Ballston Spa Lions Club Memorial Award is awarded to the Ballston Spa Lions Club Memorial student in recognition for outstanding work in BOCES Vocational Award Training, that will successfully complete the program.

This Ballston Spa National Bank Scholarship of $1000 is awarded to a Ballston Spa National Bank high school senior in recognition of academic achievement in Math, Scholarship Science, Engineering or Business while demonstrating a commitment to community service.

The Ballston Spa Soccer Club Scholarship provides individual monetary awards given to senior students who have participated in the Ballston Spa Soccer Club Ballston Soccer Club and will be attending college in the fall. This is Scholarship how the Ballston Spa Soccer Club recognizes those athletes who have represented our community in a constructive way both on and off the field of play and for us to “give back” to those who have given.

The Ballston Spa Teachers Association Scholarship Award: Since 1960 Ballston Spa Teachers Association the BSTA Scholarship Fund, Inc. has awarded a scholarship to two Scholarship Award deserving Ballston Spa seniors who plan on pursuing further education and a career in teaching. This year the winners will receive $1200.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge #2619 Award of Benevolent and Protective Order $500 each is presented to a deserving senior boy and girl who have of Elks, Lodge #2619 Award demonstrated community service and concern for their fellow students.

This award is given to one confirmed college entry student and to one confirmed non-college bound student (trade, military, etc.) who best Bridge the Divide Scholarship communicates the idea of “compromise” as a seed worthy of blooming to foster unity in a world greatly divided.

The Carl King Humanitarian Award is given by the Rotary Club of Ballston Spa to the graduating senior who has excelled as a student in Carl King Humanitarian Award BOCES in his/her field and has been accepted at a 2 or 4 year school to further their education. The Cheryl & Michael Gargiulo Lacrosse Scholarship provides Cheryl & Michael Garguilo scholarships given in honor of Cheryl and Michael Gargiulo in recognition of their years of dedication and support to the Ballston Spa Lacrosse Scholarship lacrosse program. It is awarded to the two senior lacrosse players who demonstrate how lacrosse has helped them prepare for their futures.

The Church Mouse Nursery School Award of $100 is given by the Church Mouse Nursery School Church Mouse Nursery School to a graduating senior who attended the Award Church Mouse Nursery School for their preschool education.

The Civil Service Employees Association Award donated by the Ballston Spa Educational Chapter-given to two graduating seniors from Civil Service Employees Ballston Spa High School who are children or grandchildren of Association Award employees represented by CSEA. The selection is based upon academic record, school activities, and community service.

The $150 Class of 2008 Scholarship for Community Involvement will be awarded annually to a graduating Ballston Spa High School senior Class of 2008 Scholarship for who demonstrates a strong commitment and motivation to improving Community Involvement the quality of life for people in their school, community and/or world at large through their community service activities.

The Class of 2013 Award of $125 each is to be awarded to one male Class of 2013 Award and one female who exemplify a passion for learning.

The Class of 2015 Involvement Award of $100 goes to a member of the Class of 2015 Involvement Award senior class who has gone above and beyond in helping with the class activities without holding a class officer position.

Class of 2020 COVID-19 The Class of 2020 COVID-19 Scholarship of $500 is given to 1 student Scholarship per year for 10 years to a student who is not in class government.

Class of 2020 Student Government The Class of 2020 Student Government Scholarship of $500 is given to Scholarship 1 student per year for 10 years to a student who is in class government.

The Come Back, Get Back, That's the Part of Success Scholarship is awarded to a student who has successfully completed college or Come Back, Get Back, That's the vocational school credit while in high school that includes, but is not Part of Success Scholarship limited to, University/College in the High School, International Donor: Scott Zdunczyk Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, Advanced Placement, Project Lead ​ the Way, and Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School.

The Daniel Banker Memorial Scholarship is in memory of Daniel Banker, a 2014 graduate who was a member of the high school robotics Dan Banker Memorial Robotics team. A $500 award is given to a graduating senior who has Scholarship participated in Robotics, the Art program or BARC at some point in their K-12 experience. The Dave Williams Spirit Award recognizes 1 male and 1 female ​ ​ student athlete who participated in track or cross country who best Dave Williams Spirit Award personifies and inspires team spirit and encourages others to do their best.

The David A Winkle Baseball Scholarship of $300 is to be awarded to David A. Winkle Baseball one graduating varsity baseball player, who exhibits a strong work Scholarship ethic, dedication and love for the sport of baseball. If no qualified recipient, do not award that year.

The Dr. Roger D. Gorham PTA Award is given in honor of Dr. Roger D. Gorham, Superintendent from 1992-2002. Dr. Gorham provided innovative and energetic leadership as he guided the district through a period of extensive growth and constructive change. This award is Dr. Roger D. Gorham PTA Award given annually to a graduating senior who, acting on his/her principles, has demonstrated leadership by pursuing change within the school setting and in so doing, has volunteered time and energy on behalf of other students and staff, making the Ballston Spa High School a better place in the process.

The Elks Memorial Award of $100 is given in memory of Brother Jack Elks Memorial Award Prock, is presented to a senior boy and a senior girl who have demonstrated academic excellence and community involvement.

The Eric Richard Baker Scholarship of $100 is established in memory of Eric by Mr. & Mrs. Thomas J. Nolan and is awarded to a senior who Eric R. Baker Scholarship shows interest in pursuing an involvement in Emergency Medical Assistance or Firefighting.

The Excellence in History Award is a $300 award given to a senior who has completed four years of higher-level History classes (AP World Excellence in History Award History 1 &2, and IB History 1 & 2). The recipient will be selected by the course teachers and will have demonstrated a strong interest and a high level of dedication in history each of the four years of high school.

The Excellence In Social Studies Award is a $300 award given to a senior who has completed all four AP Social Studies classes (AP World 1&2, AP United States History, AP United States Government and Excellence in Social Studies Award Politics, and AP Macroeconomics). The recipient will be selected by the four course teachers and will have demonstrated a strong interest and a high level of dedication in history and government each of the four years of high school Social Studies.

The Francis C. Hogan Memorial Scholarship of $250 is awarded to a Francis C. Hogan Memorial graduation senior intending to pursue a degree in forestry or one Scholarship relating to environmental conservation.

The Franklin Lodge #22 F. & A. M. presents this scholarship to a Franklin Lodge #22 F. & A.M. graduating senior who has been accepted to a 2 or 4 year accredited Scholarship higher education institution or trade school. This student is being recognized for their high level of service to their community. The Gail Wells Memorial Award is in memory of Mrs. Wells, a long time clerical employee of the High School who was known for her wit Gail Wells Memorial Award and sense of humor. Fifty dollar awards will be presented to two seniors in recognition of demonstrating compassion towards others through their loyalty and good sense of humor The Gordon Creek PTA Scholarship is given to a graduating senior who, having received his/her elementary education at Milton Terrace Gordon Creek PTA Scholarship Elementary School, best demonstrates through his/her actions, the Milton Terrace motto "Motivated to Succeed".

The Hayes Memorial Award is a $100 award received from the William J. and Harriet A. Hayes Trust Fund. The award was established by Mr. And Mrs. John Knickerbacker and is awarded to the male/female Hayes Memorial Award graduate of Ballston Spa High School who has obtained the highest scholastic average in public speaking during their last year of high school.

The Henry C. Bartholdi Memorial Scholarship of $500 is presented in memory of Mr. Bartholdi, a long time business teacher at BSHS who highly valued students who "think outside the box". He was a Hendry C. Bartholdi Memorial champion of original thinkers and independent leaders. The awardee Scholarship makes positive contributions to the school and larger community, is hard-working, forthright and willing to express original opinions while still respecting the opinions of others. This individual will become a valuable and respected member of society.

The Henry C. Bartholdi Memorial Business Scholarship of $500 is presented in memory of Mr. Bartholdi, a long time business teacher at BSHS. He was also the high school treasurer and bookstore supervisor. Henry C. Bartholdi Memorial This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is hard working, Business Scholarship determined and persevering and has demonstrated continued excellence in business studies. The awardee must be a college bound student pursuing further education and a career in the fields of business law, business math, accounting, bookkeeping or business education.

The Hudson Valley Community College Book Award is given to a HVCC Book Award student who will be attending HVCC. The Irene P. Schallehn English Award of $100 is hereby awarded to a student who, in the judgment of the Chair of the English Department, Irene P. Schallehn English Award has developed and maintained an exceptional interest in literature, drama, or poetry during high school and intends to deepen and expand this in college. Jack Buchalter Memorial The Jack Buchalter Memorial Scholarship is given to a graduating Scholarship senior bound for college or trade school with a deep interest in math. The John & Nancy Erkkila Music Scholarship donated by the Music Company Orchestra, Inc., given in memory of John and Nancy Erkkila John & Nancy Erkkila Music and their children, Thomas James and Ann-Clair. Awarded to a senior Scholarship who has participated in the High School Orchestra and who will continue in music study.

The John Melna Humanitarian Award of $250 is presented to a senior in recognition of concern for the welfare of his/her fellow classmates as John Melna Humanitarian Award demonstrated by the characteristics of patience, understanding and loyalty.

The John Philip Sousa Award is given to a band student in recognition of outstanding achievement and interest in instrumental music, for John Philip Sousa Award singular merit in loyalty and cooperation and for displaying those high qualities of conduct that school instrumental music requires.

The Julia O. Wells Memorial Education foundation Inc. offers a scholarship to a graduating senior who plans to pursue a career in Julia O. Wells Memorial registered professional nursing. A $500 scholarship will be awarded. Education Scholarship Registered professional nursing offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the health of individuals, families, and communities. Now, more than ever, it is an exciting time to practice nursing.

The Lauren Zimmer Memorial Scholarship of $300 is awarded to the Lauren Zimmer Memorial graduating senior pursuing a degree in Pediatric Medicine, Special Scholarship Education or therapy for disabled children.

This award is presented to a graduating senior in good academic Live Your Truth LGBTQ Student standing who identifies as LGBTQ and plans to pursue higher Scholarship education.

The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award is presented in recognition of outstanding achievement by an instrumentalist in the field of jazz, as Louis Armstrong Jazz Award demonstrated through superior musicianship, character and individual creativity.

The Malta League of Arts Award is given to a senior student who is a ​ ​ resident of the town of Malta and has demonstrated a passion for the visual arts. The recipient should also exemplify the characteristics of Malta League of Arts Award perseverance and commitment evidenced by a creative and competitive portfolio as well as a commitment to move forward within the discipline of .

The Malta Sunrise Scholarship of $1000 is awarded to a senior who is a Malta Sunrise Rotary Scholarship resident of the Town of Malta, who has maintained academic excellence and served their community during their high school years. The Meghan N. Russell Memorial Scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a Ballston Spa High School senior who will be entering a Mental Meghan N. Russell Memorial Health related field in either an accredited two or four year educational Scholarship institution. This student hopes to make a difference in the lives of children and teens by supporting their mental health needs and raising awareness of this important topic.

The Meghan Russell Memorial Cheer Booster Club Scholarship is Meghan Russell Memorial Cheer given in memory of Meghan Russell who was a dedicated cheerleader. Booster Club Scholarship The scholarship is awarded to two team members who demonstrate teamwork and dedication to their team.

The Milton Terrace PTA Scholarship of $250 is presented to a Senior Milton Terrace PTA Scholarship who has described how their experiences with community service has impacted their life as well as their plans for the future. The Miss Scotties Scholarship is awarded to 1 or 2 graduating Miss Scotties Softball Scholarship seniors with previous participation in the Miss Scotties Softball Program who exhibit leadership, citizenship, and ambition. The Music Activities Club Award is an award of $100 given to a senior who has contributed to the Music program at Ballston Spa High School Music Activities Club Award and has shown a high degree of ability and interest. This award is given based on the nomination of their peers.

The National School Choral Award is presented to two students from National School Choral Award the choral program in recognition of merit, ability, achievement and outstanding contributions to the success of the vocal program.

The National School Orchestra Award is presented to the outstanding National School Orchestra Award high school orchestra student each year in recognition of individual excellence and contributions to the school orchestra.

The Noelle Sarah Johnsen Memorial Scholarship is given in loving memory of Noelle, a student of BSHS Class of 2012. This serves as a tribute to her passion for horses and protecting the rights of horses. Noelle Sarah Johnsen Memorial Awarded to a graduating senior who will be attending a 4 year college Scholarship or will be attending Post University and will be majoring in Veterinary Sciences, Equine Studies or Equine Law. Applicants must have demonstrated financial need. Special interest can be given to a student who has a career interest in training horses with love and affection.

The State Comptroller Achievement Award is presented to a NYS Comptroller Achievement student who has shown academic excellence and the potential for Award leadership, through involvement in activities that improve the school and/or community. The New York State office of the Attorney General Triple "C" Award is awarded to two seniors who have shown a tremendous dedication to NYS Triple C Award learning, to their family, to their community and to their classmates. This award recognizes the "Character, Courage and Commitment " of these hard working students. The Olga Hagerty Award of $75 each, donated by the Ballston Area Senior Citizens, is presented to the two students of the Senior Class Olga Hagerty Award who have initiated a project of significant benefit to the school or community.

The Outstanding Athlete Award is an award that is selected by Ballston Outstanding Athlete Award Spa Coaches. It is presented to the two senior athletes (1 male & 1 female) who have proven themselves to be the best overall athletes.

Ramona’s Model & Talent Encouragement Scholarship Award of $500 is awarded to a graduating senior who has maintained satisfactory Ramona's Model & Talent grades, demonstrates motivation and a willingness to learn, is hard Encouragement Scholarship working, participates in extracurricular activities and has a financial need.

The Random Acts of Kindness Award of $250 is given to one male and Random Acts of Kindness Award one female student. These students show support, empathy and compassion for others.

The Ray A. Kroc Youth Achievement Award of $400 is presented by Ray A. Kroc Youth Achievement "McDonalds of Ballston Spa"and given to an outstanding high school Award student based on their all-around excellence in the areas of citizenship, leadership, scholarship and extracurricular activities.

The Reese Johnson Memorial Scholarship is presented in the amount of $1,000 for one recipient or $500 each for two recipients and will be Reese Johnson Memorial awarded to any graduating senior that will be entering an accredited Scholarship post secondary educational institution in the field of Veterinary Medicine or Pediatric Oncology.

This Renaissance Scholarship is given to a graduating senior with a GPA of 80% or higher, who has been accepted at and plans to attend an Renaissance Scholarship accredited 2 or 4 year college, and demonstrates both financial need and perseverance in his/her studies.

The Robert & Beverly Staulters Memorial Award is given in memory of Robert and Beverly Staulters to high school senior wrestlers who Robert & Beverly Staulters have shown dedication and commitment to the sport of . Memorial Award Robert and Beverly were involved for nearly 39 years with the Ballston Spa Wrestling program and were avid supporters of the program and the wrestlers who participated.

The Rotary Club Student of the Year Award of $1000 is given by the Rotary Club Interact Student of Rotary Club of Ballston Spa to the graduating senior who has the Year Award demonstrated outstanding service to school and community.

The Saratoga-Warren County Music Festival Award of $250 is given to Saratoga-Warren County Music an outstanding graduate who has been a participant in the County's Festival Award Music Festivals. The Soccer Booster Club Scholarship of $250 is awarded to 4 ​ ​ ​ ​ Soccer Booster Club Scholarship graduating seniors who played varsity soccer at Ballston Spa High school during their senior year.

The Spirit of Band Award is given to students who have been involved in their performing group throughout their high school career. These Spirit of Band Award students have gone above and beyond the requirements of the course, and used their musical skills to help in the community. The Spirit of Chorus Award is given to students who have been involved in their performing group throughout their high school career. Spirit of Chorus Award These students have gone above and beyond the requirements of the course, and used their musical skills to help in the community. The Spirit of Orchestra Award is given to students who have been involved in their performing group throughout their high school career. Spirit of Orchestra Award These students have gone above and beyond the requirements of the course, and used their musical skills to help in the community. The Student Government School Pride Awards of $150 each, is Student Government School Pride presented to two members of the senior class who have best Award exemplified qualities of leadership, loyalty and service to their school. The Arthur A. Ravena Sportsmanship Award of $250.00 is given to a graduating senior who as a member of the varsity baseball team has The Arthur A. Ravena demonstrated sportsmanlike conduct on and off the playing field, has Sportsmanship Award been recognized by his coaches as a team player, supports his teammates and who will be furthering his education.

The Ballston Area Community Center Scholarship of $500 is given to a student that has been enrolled or participated in any program at the The Ballston Area Community Ballston Area Community Center. The recipient must also be pursuing Center Scholarship a career in any occupation related to the care of children such as, but not limited to, preschool, daycare, teacher, child psychologist/therapist, pediatrician or social worker.

The Ballston Spa Athletic Leadership & Perseverance Award is The Ballston Spa Athletic presented to 2 student athletes who have shown dedication, Leadership & Perseverance sportsmanship, and perseverance during their years at Ballston Spa Award High School.

The Ballston Spa Football Booster Club Annual scholarship is awarded The Ballston Spa Football Booster to two graduating seniors with at least one year participation in high Club Scholarship school football, cheer or as a mascot.

The Ballston Spa House and Garden Club Award of up to $200 goes to The Ballston Spa House and a deserving graduating senior who has studied horticulture in high Garden Club Award school and is planning a career in horticulture or a related field.

The Balmuth Family Scholarship of $100 is donated by the Balmuth family in memory of Saul and Helen Balmuth. It is awarded to the high The Balmuth Family Scholarship school student who has shown good citizenship, thoughtfulness, and an acceptance of others in all walks of life. The Boys Booster The Boys Basketball Booster Scholarship is awarded to senior athletes Scholarship who show leadership and character on and off the court.

The Brooks Family Scholarship will provide financial assistance to two graduating students, one male and one female, who have been accepted The Brooks Family Scholarship at an accredited college or trade school. These students will have demonstrated leadership and completed community service above and beyond the mandatory minimum.

The Leaders & Achievers Scholarship of $200 each is to honor the hard The Leaders & Achievers work & dedication of 2 seniors that have significantly contributed to Scholarship their class over the last 4 years and have expressed considerable interest in majoring in business in college.

The Mangino Scholarship is donated by Mangino Chevrolet and Mangino Buick-GMC Inc. and awards $500 each to a graduating senior The Mangino Scholarship female and male who have been accepted by a 2 or 4 year college and demonstrated academic perseverance and financial need.

The Ballston Spa Middle School PTA Scholarship of $250 is awarded The Middle School PTA to a graduating high school senior who through his or her essay best Scholarship describes how an experience or person(s) from Ballston Spa Middle School has impacted his or her life.

The Thomas E. Baker Memorial Award established in tribute to Tom, a The Thomas E. Baker Memorial member of BSHS Class of 1983, given to a graduating photography Award student in recognition of outstanding achievement in photography.

The Timothy Carrig Memorial Scholarship of $400 is given to support the academic future of a BSHS graduating senior in memory of Tim. The Timothy Carrig Memorial This prize is awarded to a graduating senior pursuing a career in Scholarship construction, construction management, engineering or a related field. This recipient must have demonstrated a strong work ethic in academics, sports or the community.

The Tracy DeRagon Devotion to Music Education Award is a $100 scholarship given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a passion for music and a commitment to making the Ballston Spa Music The Tracy DeRagon Devotion to program better for all involved. Like Tracy, this student has gone above and beyond not just in their own pursuit of music but for all students in Music Education Award the music program by partaking in events and activities outside of their ensemble including music community service opportunities, music honor groups, participation in the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and more.

The Walt Barabasz Scholarship is a $300 award given to a Ballston Spa Senior who has demonstrated enthusiasm, dedication and achievement The Walt Barabasz Scholarship in Social Studies and is planning to pursue a career in a Social Studies related field. The Thomas M. Gregory Sr. Memorial Scholarship is given in Thomas M. Gregory Sr. Memorial memory of a man who loved the game of golf and encouraged Golf Scholarship education. To be awarded to a graduating senior, with a passion for the sport of golf, planning on attending college.

Tri-M Chapter 4029 of Ballston Tri-M Chapter 4029 of Ballston Spa High School Outstanding Member Spa High School Outstanding Award gives a $100 award to a member who has shown outstanding Member Award service to Ballston Spa High School through their music activities.

The Union Fire Company of Ballston Spa Mathematics Award of $300 Union Fire Company of Ballston is donated by the Union Fire Company of Ballston Spa in memory of Spa Mathematics Award John E. Jurcsak Sr. and awarded to the high school senior who maintains the highest average in Math A, Math B and Pre-Calculus.

Union Fire Company of Ballston Spa Music Award of $300 donated by Union Fire Company of Ballston the Union Fire company of Ballston Spa to be awarded to a high school Spa Music Award senior in the Symphonic Band who has demonstrated a high degree of dedication, willingness to work and community participation.

Union Fire Company of Ballston Spa Spanish Award of $100 each is Union Fire Company of Ballston donated by the Union Fire Company of Ballston Spa in memory of Spa Spanish Award John E. Jurcsak Sr., awarded to members of the graduating class who have shown the most interest and achievement in Spanish.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Medal and $500, in memory of Joseph Veterans of Foreign Wars Medal Miranda Sr., donated by the Ballston Spa Post #358: awarded to the and Scholarship senior student, voted by both students and faculty, as outstanding in citizenship.

The William R. Scott Memorial Scholarship is awarded to 1 or 2 William R. Scott Memorial students annually, who perform academically in the B range or higher, Scholarship and who also participate in a sport showing drive, dedication, and exceptional sportsmanship.
