Message from the Scientific Committee Telangana Ophthalmological Society

Three Years… Three years is a long time for a new scientific society to take root and start to acquire an identity and a standing on the national stage, but then again, three years is a short time for a scientific society to grow to be among the best in the country. Both our annual meetings in 2015 and 2016 showed that the members of the TSOS were keenly interested in this journey and have shown great spirit and interest in making these events successful. The 2nd TSOS at Hyderabad will be a tough act to follow as we were blessed with the presence of a galaxy of speakers and some amazing facilities and kudos to the local organizing committee for pulling off a spectacular event. This year, we have an equally exciting event with 156 submissions, which have been categorized as 36 paper presentations, 60 posters, 10 videos and close to 40 instruction courses/symposia/master classes. The focus of this years meeting is on surgery and we have some stellar speakers from across the country who will spend time with us. As usual our skills transfer sessions on Cornea, , Oculoplasty and Retina are a big draw for the post-graduate students and sincere thanks to the leads for these courses as they always are an additional effort. We have the honor of hosting 4 spectacular orations by L Vijaya, Mohan Rajan, Prashant Garg and Mallika Goyal. The LOC led by Dr Bharat Kumar has been superlative in their efforts and we are sure this will translate into a memorable event All of these speakers, sessions, talks, courses and symposia would mean nothing without the involvement of the audience, which is the epi center around which all of these revolve, so come join us and make this program count for you…

Thanking you Scientific Committee Telangana Ophthalmological Society

From the Presidents Desk

Last year when I took over the reins of our society, I in consultation with president elect, Dr Nand Kishore and Vice President, Dr Madhukar Reddy proposed a three year President’s Vision 2016-19 for TOS. This year we tried to streamline our activities on these lines. 1. The refurbished website www.tsos.co.in is functional giving all information. The process of obtaining the payment portal is on and shall be incorporated soon. Few additional details shall be soon added. It is designed to be a single portal for all TOS needs. 2. The proposal of starting our permanent office at Sarojini Hospital shall crystallize soon. 3. We have formed a TOS PR Committee. Members are requested to seek guidance if needed. 4. The career guidance Cell is now functional. Youngsters can seek guidance if required 5. The Hands on training program is now functional. Please visit our website for details 6. The TOS achievement awards shall roll out from next year. All members cumulatively aggregating a certain number of faculty credits through scientific or administrative contribution over a minimum of 3 years shall be eligible for this award. 7. Any specific cases of quackery can be brought to the notice of the concerned committee and reported to the authorities. 8. The OFWS is running under the aegis of TOS and needs to be propagated energetically. 9. The issue of formation of nonexistent District Chapters of TOS shall be taken up on a priority basis this year by the incumbent President. 10. All of us need to proactively encourage our colleagues to enroll as life members for a more bigger and vibrant TOS. I thoroughly enjoyed my tenure as President of our August Society and pledge to be always available for its welfare howsoever possible. Sincere Thanks and Best Wishes
