TECHNICAL SUBMISSION SECTION A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKS BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKS PROJECT LOCATION The project area is located at 12 km North of Doha City Centre next to the Katara Cultural Village. The project area is spread across three areas namely Al Tarfa, Legtaifiya and Jelaiah. The project, C830 – Construction of Flow Diversion in Al Tarfa, Legtaifiya and Jelaiah - sewer networks catchment within Doha North developed from original DN085 project of Local Roads and Drainage Programme(LRDP). The project area covers in Zone 54 and is classified as a Category. A project under Contract 2 of the Local Roads and Drainage Programme (LR&DP). The project area is on the Eastern periphery of Doha. The project boundary is defined to the North by Golf Course Road, East by Katara Cultural Village and West Bay Lagoon, South by Al Khafji Street and West by Arab League Street. Al Jamiaa Road is passing through the Project Area is shown in Figure1. The Project covers the Qatar University area on the North-West corner. The Project Area is primarily an established residential development zone, predominantly with private villas along with the associated existing utilities infrastructure networks such as power, water etc. This residential development comprises of a mixture of large individual residential villas and villa compounds. In addition, there are small commercial properties, schools, mosques and utilities compounds, located across the site. An on-hold land use area of around 100 hectares is left for future Park on the South-West side of the Project Area. The existing foul sewerage network in the project area comprises of gravity sewer network discharging into local pumping stations, which ultimately discharge to Doha West Sewage Treatment Works. The existing pumping stations, which are covered under this project area, are PS 35, PS 27/4, PS 27/6, PS 35/1, PS 29, PS 35 B and PS C.O.T. Doha North Foul Sewer Strategy A strategic scheme has been developed by the Public Works Authority (PWA) under project title “Doha North Sewage Treatment and Associated Works” to collect the sewage for the entire Doha North area network by gravity and discharge to Pumping Station (PS) 70, which will then pump flows onwards to the Doha North Sewage Treatment Works. Project Objective The main objective of Capital project C830 is diversion of flow from existing pumping stations PS 35, PS27/4, PS 27/6, PS 35/1, PS 29, PS 35B, PS C.O.T by gravity to Doha North Interceptor Sewer which is ultimately connected to existing PS 70. Construction of Sewer Networks in open trenches is 1495 m length by open cut method. b. Construction of Sewer Networks in trenchless of 4224 m length by NDM method. c. Construction of 24 nos.of in situ concrete manholes along the gravity sewer line in open trenches and 40 nos.of in situ concrete manhole shaft along the gravity tunnel sewer. d. Construction of foul sewer rising mains of 300mm DI main of length approximately 684m. e. Decommissioning of Five pumping Stations (PS 35, PS 27/4, PS 29, PS 35 B and PS C.O.T.) The gravity sewer of the trunk main alignment for this project is shown in Figure 2. Topographic Survey and Soil Investigation works (SI) for the above sub-catchments were carried out under the Local Road & Drainage Programme (LR&DP) Project DN085. The respective reports are provided in Section-E of this tender document.
