THE WIZARD OF (INFANT GROUP. Scene One All are doing farm work. They were digging, reaping, scattering seeds etc and has just sung (ROSS tells me the whole three groups will sing it) A tornado which they call a is seen in the distance-sounds of strong wind. Farm hand AUSTIN: Look out there! Farmhand 2 OLIVERIt looks like a twister ! ALL A twister! Farmhand 3 LACEYLets get into the storm shelter! Farmhand 4 FLO Let’s go. Farmhand 5 ABIGAIL Come on then! Farmhand 6 ANEKA What about the crops? Farmhand 7 EMMIE We can’t save them. (They all begin to get into the storm shelter) Farmhand 8 ARTHUR The animals. Farmhand 9 LEO It’s too late to save them. Farmhand 10: LILY We have to get to safety ourselves Dorothy: My dog! ! I must save her. She’s in the House. (As Dorothy runs from the shelter to the house everyone shouts) Farmhands all together: ABIGAIL – Come back Dorothy FLO: You’ll never make it, OLIVER: Hurry up. The twister’s coming. ESMMIE: Leave the dog. ANEKA: The twister’s nearly here!. LEO: It’s too late to get Toto. LACEY: Hurry Dorothy AUSTIN Don’t be a fool ARTHUR: You Fool! ALL:DOTOTHY (Dorothy rushes to the house and finds Toto under the bed but as she kneels down to get him the house is taken up into the air and whisked away. She is whisked all around the stage and ends up collapsed Downstage right. The noise of the storm abates and suddenly lots of come out and gather in a circle around her. Dorothy wakes and slowly gets up and sees all these strange creatures and a very different landscape.) Dorothy: This doesn’t look like Kansas. Mayor: Your house has killed the Witch of the East. Dorothy: Oh! I’m so sorry.

1 Mayor: Don’t be sorry . she very wicked. And we are glad she’s dead. Aren’t we. Munchkins : Yes we are. Hurrah! A : Hip hip! All: Hurrah! (3 times) SONG DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD WHICH OLD WHITCH? THE WICKED WITCH. DING DONG THE WICKED WITCH IS DEAD. WAKE UP YOU SLEEPY HEAD RUB YOUR EYES, GET OUT OF BED. DING DONG THE WICKED WITCH IS DEAD. Mayor: What can we do for you in return? Dorothy : Well I need to get home. How do I get back to Kansas? All (they chatter amongst themselves and eventually one of the Munchkins says) Munchkin: Would the Wizard know? Munchkins Yes. Ask the Wizard. The wonderful ! Dorothy: How do I find him SONG FOLLOW THE X 2 FOLLOW FOLLOW, FOLLOW ,FOLLOW FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD.

Scene 2 ( A NEW DOROTHY MOVES OFF AND COMES ACROSS A BY THE ROADSIDE WHO IS MOANING) SCARECROW:Oh dear ,oh dear, oh dear oh dear oh dear! DOROTHY: I didn’t know scarecrows could speak. Can I help You? SCARECROW:If you could take the pole from my back that would be kind of you. (Dorothy with difficulty takes the pole from the scarecrow’s back and he collapses onto the floor. She helps him up and he gradually recovers.) DOROTHY: Is that better. Is there anything else that I could do for you? SCARECROW: You’re very clever. I wish I was. . DOROTHY: Well I’m going to see the Wizard to see if he can show me how to get back to Kansas. Perhaps he could give you a brain. SCARECROW: what are we waiting for? Lets go! SONG WE’RE ,

Scene 3 (Dorothy and the Scarecrow suddenly stop as they hear the Tinman trying to get their attention) Tinman: Can you oil my joints? Oil my joints! Dorothy: Oh look! That Tinman is trying to tell us something. Scarecrow: He needs some oil! Here is a can by his feet. Dorothy:Oh yes! Let’s oil his arms; his knees, his elbows. Tinman:and my mouth please. Dorothy:(Dorothy takes the can from the Scarecrow and oils the ’s mouth.) There! Is that better? Tinman:Oh yes. Thank you. Scarecrow:How did you rust up? Tinman: Yes I have to be careful when it rains. Scarecrow: You can’t cry either I suppose. Tinman: Oh no I dare not cry. But then I haven’t got a heart. Dorothy: No heart? Tinman: No. Listen. (the Tinman bangs his chest to show it is empty) Scarecrow: I know! Why don’t you come with us. Dorothy: Yes! We are going to see the Wizard of OZ. He will surely b e able to give you a heart. Scarecrow; And me a Brain. Dorothy: An d to show me how to get back to Kansas. Tinman: How wonderful. Let’s go! We’re Off to see the Wizard The wonderful Wizard of Oz (etc) Scene 4 (The three of them enter a dark wood and tread much more carefully. They stop suddenly when the hear a roaring.) Dorothy:Oh dear what was that? Scarecrow: I don’t know. But it sounds fierce.

3 Tinman: And it’s coming this way! (they all stay frozen to the spot as the Lion appears. He growls and knocks down the Scarecrow and then begins to jump up at the tinman) Dorothy: Stop it you bully. Stop it this minute. (Dorothy smacks him on the nose and he begins to cry) Lion: Oh please don’t hurt me. I didn’t mean any harm. My roar is the only thing I’ve got to protect me. Tinman: But you’re a Lion. They are the Kings of the Jungle surely. Lion: I know. That’s what I’m supposed to be. But I have no Courage. I’m even scared of my own shadow. Scarecrow: Dorothy surely he can come with us too. Dorothy: Would you like to come and ask the Wizard of OZ if he will give you courage? Lion:Oh, yes please. Do you think he can help me? Scarecrow: I’m going to ask him for a brain Tinman: And me a Heart. Dorothy: And I’m going to ask him to send me back to Kansas. Lion: Then I’ll join you. (they all cheers and begin their journey) We’re off to see the Wizard etc. ( at the end of the song we see the four travellers walking very slowly. They arfe so tired that they settle down to sleep. When they are asleep the flying monkeys fly in looking for them.) Scarecrow: Quick hide ! danger! Hide in the audience. They will never find us there. (They do. And the Monkeys leave frustrated. The 4 friends come back on and continue on their journey. They go off stage and the people of OZ come on singing.

FOR NEXT TERM SPRING 2018 SCENE 5 OZ (ALL OF THE PEOPLE OF OZ ARE SINGING AND DANCING.) Ha ha ha Ho ho ho And a couple of tra la las That's how we laugh the day away In the merry old Buzz, buzz, buzz Chirp, chirp, chirp And a couple of La di das That's how the crickets crick all day In

4 We get up at twelve and start to work at one Take an hour for lunch and then at two we're done Jolly good fun (repeat 1st chorus.) DOROTHY SCRECROW, TINMAN AND LION APPEAR. A LADY OF OZ 1 : What do you want my dear? `ANOTHER OZ person 2 : Have you come to join in the fun? DOROTHY: That is very kind of you, but we have come to see the wizard. LION: We want to ask him to help us. You see I want courage. TINMAN: And I want a heart. SCARECROW: I want a brain. DOROTHY: And I need to find my way back to Kansas. OZ PERSON 3. Our Wizard is very clever. I’m sure he can help you. OZ PERSON 4: But he’s not always in a good mood so we need to approach him with care.This way. (suddenly there is a loud frightening noise and the 4 friends cling onto one another. They come to a large throne and kneel down before it.) WIZARD: (in an echoy voice) Who is disturbing my slumbers? Come forward. (they are all scared but Lion steps forward) LION: PLEASE, SIR. YOUR MAJESTY. We didn’t mean to disturb you. But my friends and I ask for your help. WIZARD: My help! Really and what exactly do you want from me? LION: Please sir, I need courage. WIZARD: COURAGE? COURAGE? But you already have courage. Were you afraid when you came before me? LION: I certainly was. You see that proves I’m a coward. WIZARD: Nonsense! Bravery is overcoming fear. You were afraid, but you still stepped forward and spoke up for your friends. That’s really brave. Here is the medal for outstanding courage in the face of danger. (all cheer) SCARECROW: Please sir, I haven’t got a brain. Can you help me? WIZARD: When the Flying Monkeys attacked you all, who suggested hiding in the audience? SCARECROW: I did. WIZARD: Well that takes brains to come up with that idea. Here take this certificate to prove you are clever. SCARECROW: Thank you so much. (all cheer) WIZARD: And what about you my dear, what do you want? DOROTHY: I want to go home, back to Kansas. WIZARD: Home eh? Go back to Kansas? Well that is more difficult. You will all have to help me. Everyone close your eyes – even the audience- and

5 then you all will have to say over and over again- “ There’s no place like home” “There’s no place like home.” etc (everyone repeats the phrase over and over and while they are saying this all the actors go back to the farm scene at the start of the play and Dorothy is back in the house where she was hit on the head in the Twister. She wakes up and comes forward to all of the farmhands and is so pleased to see them all.) DOROTHY: Perhaps it was all a dream. There’s no place like home. ALL:NO THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME. (WHOLE MHA SING “OVER THE RAINBOW”
