Introduction and Objectives
The objective of this contract was to update the 1inch maps of Areas of Scientific Interest (ASI) in county Wexford. An existing set of maps, drawn on Ornance Survey sheets 19 and 23, had been produced byC. Douglas for the Wildlife Service in April 1982. These incorporated the Areas of Scientific Interest listed in An Foras Forbartha's county report for Wexford (Goodwillie, 1979,unpublished), An Foras Forbartha's Areas of Scientific Interest in Ireland (Cabotet. al., 1981) and unpublished information held at the Wildlife Service Research Branchin Bray. A revision was carried out by P. Foss in July1983, mainly to incorporate new data on peatland sites. The present revision includes significant new information contained in the six-volume report on rare and threatened plant sites in south-eastIreland by Rose Fitzgerald (1990, 1991). Additional information was sought from the following :- T. Curtis, C. O'Criodain, J. Ryan, E. Wymer,0. Merne, D. Norris, M. Speight, R. Harrington, J. Wilson, R. Goodwillie, E. Doranand W. Warren. A total of 33 discrete, additional sites are included onthe accompanying maps, with major extensions added to 10 existing sites. No sites have been deleted. All sites have been re-numbered in accordance with the databases being prepared by E. Wymer. An index to the ASI's of county Wexford has beenproduced to accompany the maps. A list of additions and amendments made to the 1982/83 map editions has been prepared for internal reference, together withlarge scale location maps for most of the sites. INDEX
