MXD – Evaluering 2018
EVALUERINGSRAPPORT 2018 Evaluering af MXD’s aktiviteter i 2018 Det er MXD’s mission at øge eksporten af dansk professionel populærmusik og herigen- nem at styrke den kunstneriske udvikling og forretningsgrundlaget for danske kunstnere og musikselskaber. MXD’s Strategi 2016-19 definerer tre hovedopgaver, som skal realisere denne mission: 1. Eksportstøtte 2. Internationale projekter 3. Videndeling og kommunikation. I det følgende beskrives aktiviteterne og resultaterne inden for hver af disse. Ad. 1. Eksportstøtte Danske bands/musikselskaber kan søge MXD om støtte til både egne eksportprojekter og til deltagelse i MXD’s eksportprojekter i udlandet, såsom handelsmissioner, Danish Night At Reeperbahn Festival, Ja Ja Ja Club Night etc. Der kan søges om støtte via tre puljer: 1. Eksportstøtte til markedsudvikling 2. Dynamisk eksportstøtte til unikke markedsmuligheder 3. Eksportstøtte til branchefolk I marts 2017 lancerede MXD og DPA (foreningen for sangskrivere, komponister, tekst- forfattere og producere inden for det kommercielle og populære felt) en ny eksportstøt- tepulje, som har til formål at styrke eksporten af dansk-producerede sange: 4. Eksportstøtte til branchefolk - sangskrivning Støttemidlerne kommer fra Kodas Kulturelle Midler, og puljen administreres af MXD. Tomlinson left it in his will that his estate should be turned into public buildings for the city after his wife also passed. It read " He passed on November 14, 1870. His wife made a contract in 1871 by which the city would take ownership of the property and she would receive $7,000 per year until her death. Tomlinson Hall was then constructed in 1885–86. The approximate cost of the building, with running water and heating, was $137,500. On January 30, 1958, a four- alarm fire engulfed the building. Despite public dissent, the building was razed on July 8, 1958 as it could not be saved. It was not reconstructed. Sunset Terrace: With the end of prohibition in the United States, several night clubs and taverns sprang up along Indiana Avenue after 1933. The Sunset Terrace was one of the many properties within the area owned by brothers Denver and Sea Ferguson. -

1 Music Festival Capitalism Chris Anderton Abstract: This chapter adds to a growing subfield of music festival studies by examining the business practices and cultures of the commercial outdoor sector, with a particular focus on rock, pop and dance music events. The events of this sector require substantial financial and other capital in order to be staged and achieve success, yet the market is highly volatile, with relatively few festivals managing to attain longevity. It is argued that these events must balance their commercial needs with the socio-cultural expectations of their audiences for hedonistic, carnivalesque experiences that draw on countercultural understanding of festival culture (the countercultural carnivalesque). This balancing act has come into increased focus as corporate promoters, brand sponsors and venture capitalists have sought to dominate the market in the neoliberal era of late capitalism. The chapter examines the riskiness and volatility of the sector before examining contemporary economic strategies for risk management and audience development, and critiques of these corporatizing and mainstreaming processes. Keywords: music festival; carnivalesque; counterculture; risk management; cool capitalism A popular music festival may be defined as a live event consisting of multiple musical performances, held over one or more days (Shuker, 2017, 131), though the connotations of 2 the word “festival” extend much further than this, as I will discuss below. For the purposes of this chapter, “popular music” is conceived as music that is produced by contemporary artists, has commercial appeal, and does not rely on public subsidies to exist, hence typically ranges from rock and pop through to rap and electronic dance music, but excludes most classical music and opera (Connolly and Krueger 2006, 667). -

Music events occur in great amount on a daily basis and it is important to plan and produce them in the right manner in order to stay relevant and secure one‟s place on the market. This report introduces various crucial matters that require attention during event organization process, such as marketing and strategic planning, communication and promotion, risk management, event programming and capacity management, to name a few. The 5-phase project management model is applied as the base on which this thesis is built. The research is conducted by comparing the theoretical and practical approach used in the music event business. The practical approach is based on examinations and interviews with the world market leader in live entertainment – Live Nation. An additional analysis of practices used in other large and successful music events in Europe and USA is also conducted. As this thesis shows, the practical approach is often easier and less rigorous than the theory. Some of the steps in this process may be simply omitted due to being considered of little relevance by the management team, many other are outsourced to professional agencies depending on requirements (security, catering). -

Having been a part of the live events calendar in Denmark since 1971, the festival now attracts international visitors and appeals to fans across the world. The partnership with Billetnet will enable the event to extend its international reach across Europe and the United Kingdom. The festival adds to Ticketmaster International’s extensive portfolio of festivals which includes Way Out West (Sweden), T in The Park (Scotland), Stereosonic (Australia) and Lowlands (Netherlands) to name a few, as well as international events such as the London 2012 Olympic Games and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. During 2013, we further grew our unmatched concerts global fan base by 10 million fans, attracting almost 60 million fans to our concerts. This tremendous growth fueled our sponsorship and ticketing businesses with Ticketmaster managing nearly 4400 million total tickets in 2013. Combined, we delivered a record year for revenue, AOI and free cash flow. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of our business model, establishing Live Nation as what we believe to be the number one player in each of our businesses, with concerts driving our flywheel, which is then monetized across our high margin on-site, sponsorship and ticketing businesses. Strong Fan Demand for Live Events We continue to see the tremendous power of live events, with strong global consumer demand. Research shows that live events are a high priority for discretionary spending, and over 80% of our fans surveyed indicate that they plan on attending the same or more events in 2014 as in 2013. Another sign of the strength of our business is that 85% of Live Nation’s fan growth came organically, from our promoting more shows in amphitheaters, arenas and stadiums; from launching new festivals; and from establishing operatioons in new markets.
